In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,
In die agtste maand, in die tweede jaar van Dariús, het die woord van die HERE tot Sagaria die seun van Beregja, die seun van Iddo die profeet, gekom, sê,

The LORD hath been sore displeased with your fathers.
Die HERE is baie ontevrede gewees met julle vaders.

Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.
Daarom sê tot hulle, So sê die HERE van leërskare; Keer tot My, sê die HERE van leërskare, en ek sal tot julle keer, sê die HERE van leërskare.

Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and [from] your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the LORD.
Wees nie soos julle vaders, tot wie die vorige profete geroep het, sê, So sê die HERE van leërskare; Keer nou van julle boos weë, en van julle boos doenings af: maar hulle het nie gehoor nie, en ook nie na My geluister nie, sê die HERE.

Your fathers, where [are] they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?
Julle vaders, waar is hulle? en die profete, lewe hulle vir ewig?

But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.
Maar my woorde en my insettinge, wat ek my dienaars die profete beveel het, het hulle julle vaders nie ingehaal nie? en hulle het teruggekeer en gesê, Soos die HERE van leërskare bedink het om aan ons te doen, volgens ons weë, en volgens ons doenings, so het Hy met ons gehandel.

Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which [is] the month Sebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,
Op die vier en twintigste dag van die elfde maand, wat die maand Sebat is, in die tweede jaar van Dariús, het die woord van die HERE tot Sagaria die seun van Beregja, die seun van Iddo die profeet, gekom, sê,

I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that [were] in the bottom; and behind him [were there] red horses, speckled, and white.
Ek het in die nag gesien, en kyk ‚'n man rydende op ‚'n rooi perd, en hy het tussen die mirtebome gestaan wat in die bodem was; en agter hom was daar rooi perde, bont, en wit.

Then said I, O my lord, what [are] these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these [be].
Toe het ek gesê, o my heer, wat is dit? En die engel wat met my gespreek het, het tot my gesê, Ek sal jou toon wat dit is.
10
And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These [are they] whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.
En die man wat tussen die mirtebome gestaan het, het geantwoord en gesê, Dit is hulle wat die HERE gestuur het om deur die aarde te wandel.

And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.
En hulle het die engel van die HERE geantwoord wat tussen die mirtebome gestaan het, en gesê, Ons het deur die aarde gewandel, en kyk, al die aarde sit stil, en is in rus.

Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?
Toe het die engel van die HERE geantwoord en gesê, o HERE van leërskare, hoe lank sal U nie medelye hê met Jérusalem en met die stede van Juda, teen wie U hierdie sewentig jaar ontevrede was nie?

And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me [with] good words [and] comfortable words.
En die HERE het die engel geantwoord wat met my gespreek het met goeie woorde en vertroostende woorde.
14
So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.
So het die engel wat met my gespreek het tot my gesê, Roep uit, sê, So sê die HERE van leërskare; Ek is ywerig vir Jérusalem en vir Sion met groot ywer.

And I am very sore displeased with the heathen [that are] at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.
En ek is baie ontevrede met die heidene wat gerus is: want ek was ‚'n bietjie ontevrede, en hulle het die verdrukking gehelp.

Therefore thus saith the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.
Daarom so sê die HERE; Ek is na Jérusalem teruggekeer met barmhartighede: my huis sal daarin gebou word, sê die HERE van leërskare, en ’n meetsnoer sal oor Jérusalem gespan word.

Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.
Roep nog, sê, So sê die HERE van leërskare; My stede sal deur voorspoed nog uitgesprei word; en die HERE sal Sion nog troos, en sal Jérusalem nog verkies.

Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns.
Toe het ek my oë opgehef, en gesien, en kyk vier horings.
19
And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What [be] these? And he answered me, These [are] the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.
En ek het tot die engel gesê wat met my gespreek het, Wat is dit? En hy het my geantwoord, Dit is die horings wat Juda, Israel, en Jérusalem verstrooi het.

And the LORD shewed me four carpenters.
En die HERE het my vier ambagsmanne gewys.
21
Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These [are] the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up [their] horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.
Toe het ek gesê, Wat kom hierdie doen? En hy het gespreek, sê, Dit is die horings wat Juda verstrooi het, sodat niemand sy kop opgelig het nie: maar hierdie is gekom om hulle te verskrik, om die horings van die heidene af te kap, wat die horing oor die land van Juda opgelig het om dit te verstrooi.
