What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit [is there] of circumcision?

Wat is dan die voordeel van die Jood? of wat is die nut van die besnydenis?

Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.

Baie in elke opsig: veral, omdat aan hulle die woorde van God toevertrou is.

For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?

Want wat as sommige nie geglo het nie? sal hulle ongeloof die geloof van God tot niet maak?

4

God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

Mag dit nooit wees nie: ja, laat God waaragtig wees, maar elke mens ‚'n leuenaar; soos geskrywe is, Dat U geregverdig mag word in u woorde, en mag oorwin wanneer U geoordeel word.

But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? [Is] God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man)

Maar as ons ongeregtigheid die geregtigheid van God bevestig, wat sal ons sê? Is God onregverdig wat wraak neem? (Ek spreek as ’n mens.)

God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?

Mag dit nooit wees nie: want hoe sal God dan die wêreld oordeel?

For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?

Want as die waarheid van God deur my leuen tot sy heerlikheid toeneem; waarom word ek nog as ‚'n sondaar geoordeel?

And not [rather], (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.

En nie eerder (soos ons belaster word, en soos sommige beweer dat ons sê,) Laat ons kwaad doen, dat goed mag kom nie? wie se veroordeling regverdig is.

What then? are we better [than they]? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

Wat dan? is ons beter as hulle? Nee, geensins: want ons het tevore beide Jode en Grieke bewys dat hulle almal onder die sonde is;

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Soos geskrywe is, Daar is niemand regverdig nie, nee, nie een nie:

There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

Daar is niemand wat verstaan nie, daar is niemand wat God soek nie.

12

They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Hulle is almal afgewyk, hulle is almal saam onbruikbaar geword; daar is niemand wat goed doen nie, nee, nie een nie.

13

Their throat [is] an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps [is] under their lips:

Hulle keel is ‚'n oop graf; met hulle tonge het hulle bedrog gepleeg; die gif van adders is onder hulle lippe:

14

Whose mouth [is] full of cursing and bitterness:

Wie se mond vol is van vervloeking en bitterheid:

15

Their feet [are] swift to shed blood:

Hulle voete is snel om bloed te vergiet:

16

Destruction and misery [are] in their ways:

Vernietiging en ellende is in hulle weë:

17

And the way of peace have they not known:

En die weg van vrede het hulle nie geken nie:

18

There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Daar is geen vrees van God voor hulle oë nie.

19

Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Nou weet ons dat wat die wet ook al sê, dit sê tot hulle wat onder die wet is: dat elke mond gestop mag word, en die hele wêreld skuldig mag word voor God.

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law [is] the knowledge of sin.

Daarom sal deur die dade van die wet geen vlees voor Hom geregverdig word nie: want deur die wet is die kennis van die sonde.

21

But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

Maar nou is die geregtigheid van God sonder die wet geopenbaar, omdat dit getuig word deur die wet en die profete;

22

Even the righteousness of God [which is] by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Selfs die geregtigheid van God wat is deur die geloof van Jesus Christus tot almal en op almal wat glo: want daar is geen onderskeid nie:

23

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Want almal het gesondig, en kom kort van die heerlikheid van God;

24

Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Wordende vryelik geregverdig deur sy genade deur die verlossing wat in Christus Jesus is:

25

Whom God hath set forth [to be] a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

Wat God voorgestel het om ‚'n versoening te wees deur die geloof in sy bloed, om sy geregtigheid te toon vir die vergifnis van sondes wat tevore begaan is, deur die verdraagsaamheid van God;

To declare, [I say], at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Om, sê ek, in hierdie tyd sy geregtigheid te toon: dat Hy regverdig mag wees, en die regverdigmaker van hom wat in Jesus glo.

27

Where [is] boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

Waar is dan die roem? Dit is uitgesluit. Deur watter wet? van werke? Nee: maar deur die wet van die geloof.

28

Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Daarom kom ons tot die gevolgtrekking dat ‚'n mens geregverdig word deur die geloof sonder die dade van die wet.

29

[Is he] the God of the Jews only? [is he] not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:

Is Hy die God van die Jode alleen? is Hy nie ook van die heidene nie? Ja, van die heidene ook:

30

Seeing [it is] one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.

Aangesien daar een God is, wat die besnydenis sal regverdig deur die geloof, en die onbesnedenheid deur die geloof.

31

Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

Maak ons dan die wet tot niet deur die geloof? Mag dit nooit wees nie: ja, ons bevestig die wet.
