1
Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Laat elke siel onderworpe wees aan die owerhede wat daar is. Want daar is geen owerheid nie behalwe van God: die owerhede wat daar is, is deur God verordineer.
2
Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
Wie daarom die owerheid weerstaan, weerstaan die ordinansie van God: en hulle wat weerstaan, sal vir hulleself die veroordeling ontvang.

For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
Want die owerstes is nie ’n skrik vir goeie werke nie, maar vir die kwaad. Wil jy dan nie die owerheid vrees nie? doen wat goed is, en jy sal lof van dieselfde hê:

For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to [execute] wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Want hy is die dienaar van God tot jou goeie. Maar as jy kwaad doen, wees bevrees; want hy dra die swaard nie tevergeefs nie: want hy is die dienaar van God, ‚'n wreker om toorn te oefen op hom wat kwaad doen.

Wherefore [ye] must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
Daarom is dit noodsaaklik om onderworpe te wees, nie alleen om die toorn nie, maar ook om die gewete.

For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
Want om hierdie oorsaak betaal julle ook belasting: want hulle is Gods dienaars, wat voortdurend hierop let.
7
Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute [is due]; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
Gee daarom aan almal wat aan hulle toekom: belasting aan wie belasting, tol aan wie tol; vrees aan wie vrees; eer aan wie eer.

Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Wees aan niemand iets verskuldig nie, behalwe om mekaar lief te hê: want hy wat ’n ander liefhet, het die wet vervul.
9
For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if [there be] any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Want dit, Jy moet nie egbreek nie, Jy moet nie doodslaan nie, Jy moet nie steel nie, Jy moet nie valse getuienis gee nie, Jy moet nie begeer nie; en as daar enige ander gebod is, word dit in hierdie woord saamgevat, naamlik, Jy moet jou naaste liefhê soos jouself.

Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love [is] the fulfilling of the law.
Die liefde doen die naaste geen kwaad nie: daarom is die liefde die vervulling van die wet.
11
And that, knowing the time, that now [it is] high time to awake out of sleep: for now [is] our salvation nearer than when we believed.
En dit, wetende die tyd, dat dit nou die uur is om uit die slaap te ontwaak: want nou is ons heil nader as toe ons geglo het.

The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
Die nag is ver gevorderd, die dag is naby: laat ons daarom die werke van die duisternis afwerp, en die wapenrusting van die lig aantrek.
13
Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
Laat ons eerbaar wandel, soos in die dag; nie in oormaat en dronkenskap nie, nie in losbandigheid en wellustigheid nie, nie in twis en afguns nie.
14
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof].
Maar beklee julle met die Here Jesus Christus, en sorg nie vir die vlees om die begeerlikhede te bevredig nie.
