Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called [to be] an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,

Paulus, ‚'n dienaar van Jesus Christus, geroep om ‚'n apostel te wees, afgesonder tot die evangelie van God,

(Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)

(Wat Hy tevore beloof het deur sy profete in die heilige Skrifte,)

Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

Aangaande sy Seun Jesus Christus onse Here, wat uit die saad van Dawid volgens die vlees gemaak is;

And declared [to be] the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

En verklaar is om die Seun van God te wees met krag, volgens die gees van heiligheid, deur die opstanding uit die dooies:

5

By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:

Deur wie ons genade en apostelskap ontvang het, tot gehoorsaamheid van die geloof onder al die nasies, om sy Naam ontwil:

6

Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:

Onder wie julle ook is die geroepenes van Jesus Christus:

7

To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called [to be] saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Aan almal wat in Rome is, geliefdes van God, geroep om heiliges te wees: Genade aan julle en vrede van God onse Vader, en die Here Jesus Christus.

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

Eers dank ek my God deur Jesus Christus vir julle almal, dat julle geloof in die hele wêreld verkondig word.

9

For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

Want God is my getuie, wat ek dien met my gees in die evangelie van sy Seun, dat sonder ophou ek julle noem in my gebede;

10

Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.

Altyd in my gebede versoekende, of ek miskien nou eindelik ’n voorspoedige reis deur die wil van God na julle mag hê.

11

For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;

Want ek verlang om julle te sien, dat ek julle mag deelagtig maak van een of ander geestelike gawe, tot julle versterking;

12

That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.

Dit is, dat ek saam met julle vertroos mag word deur die wedersydse geloof beide van julle en my.

13

Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.

Nou wil ek nie hê dat julle onkundig moet wees, broers, dat ek dikwels voorgeneem het om by julle te kom, (maar tot nou toe verhinder is,) dat ek ook by julle een of ander vrug mag hê, net soos by die ander heidene.

I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.

Ek is ‚'n skuldenaar beide aan die Grieke, en aan die Barbare; beide aan die wyse, en aan die onverstandige.

15

So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.

So, sover dit in my is, is ek bereid om die evangelie ook aan julle wat in Rome is te verkondig.

16

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Want ek skaam my nie vir die evangelie van Christus nie: want dit is die krag van God tot heil vir elkeen wat glo; aan die Jood eers, en ook aan die Griek.

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Want daarin word die geregtigheid van God geopenbaar uit geloof tot geloof: soos geskrywe is, Die regverdige sal uit die geloof lewe.

18

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Want die toorn van God word van die hemel af geopenbaar oor alle goddeloosheid en ongeregtigheid van die mense, wat die waarheid in ongeregtigheid vashou;

19

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed [it] unto them.

Omdat dit wat van God geken kan word in hulle openbaar is; want God het dit aan hulle geopenbaar.

20

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Want die onsigbare dinge van Hom van die skepping van die wêreld af word gesien, verstaan deur die dinge wat gemaak is, selfs sy ewige krag en Godheid; sodat hulle sonder verontskuldiging is:

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Omdat, toe hulle God geken het, hulle Hom nie as God verheerlik of dank nie; maar ydel geword het in hulle verbeelding, en hulle dwase hart is verduister.

22

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

Hulle, wat hulleself wys voordoen, is dwaas geword,

23

And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

En het die heerlikheid van die onverganklike God verander in ’n beeld wat gelyk is aan verganklike mens, en aan voëls, en viervoetige diere, en kruipende diere.

24

Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

Daarom het God hulle ook oorgegee in die begeerlikhede van hulle harte tot onreinheid, om hulle liggame onder mekaar te onteer:

25

Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Wat die waarheid van God verander het in ’n leuen, en die skepsel aanbid en gedien het meer as die Skepper, wat tot in ewigheid geseënd is. Amen.

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

Om hierdie oorsaak het God hulle oorgegee tot skandelike hartstogte: want selfs hulle vroue het die natuurlike gebruik verander in dit wat teen die natuur is:

27

And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

En net so ook die manne, die natuurlike gebruik van die vrou verlatende, is in hulle begeerlikheid tot mekaar ontsteek; manne met manne skandelikheid bedrywende, en die vergelding van hulle dwaling in hulleself ontvangende, soos dit reg was.

And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

En soos hulle dit nie goedgekeur het om God in kennis te hou nie, het God hulle oorgegee tot ’n verwerplike gemoed, om dié dinge te doen wat nie betaam nie;

Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

Gevul met alle ongeregtigheid, hoerery, boosheid, gierigheid, kwaadaardigheid; vol van afguns, moord, twis, bedrog, kwaadwilligheid; fluisteraars,

Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

Kwaadsprekers, haters van God, vermetel, hoogmoedig, roemers, uitvinders van boos dinge, ongehoorsaam aan ouers,

31

Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

Sonder verstand, verbondsbrekers, sonder natuurlike genegenheid, onversoenlik, onbarmhartig:

32

Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Wat, alhoewel hulle die oordeel van God ken, dat dié wat sulke dinge doen die dood waardig is, nie alleen dieselfde doen nie, maar ook behae het in hulle wat dit doen.
