To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm [or] Song of Asaph. In Judah [is] God known: his name [is] great in Israel.

In Juda is God bekend: sy Naam is groot in Israel.

In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion.

In Salem ook is sy tabernakel, en sy woning in Sion.

There brake he the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah.

Daar het Hy die pyle van die boog stukkend gebreek, die skild, en die swaard, en die geveg. Sela.

Thou [art] more glorious [and] excellent than the mountains of prey.

U is heerliker en uitnemender as die berge van prooi.

The stouthearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep: and none of the men of might have found their hands.

Die dapperes van hart is geplunder, hulle het hulle slaap geslaap: en niemand van die manne van mag het hulle hande gevind nie.

At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep.

By u bestraffing, o God van Jakob, is beide die strydwa en perd in ‚'n dooie slaap geval.

Thou, [even] thou, [art] to be feared: and who may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry?

U, selfs U, is te vrees: en wie mag voor U staan wanneer U eenmaal toornig is?

Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared, and was still,

U het die oordeel uit die hemel laat hoor; die aarde het gevrees, en was stil,

When God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. Selah.

Toe God opgestaan het tot oordeel, om al die sagmoediges van die aarde te red. Sela.

10

Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.

Sekerlik sal die grimmigheid van die mens U prys: die rest van grimmigheid sal U bedwing.

Vow, and pay unto the LORD your God: let all that be round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared.

Beloof, en betaal aan die HERE julle God: laat almal wat rondom Hom is, geskenke bring aan Hom wat te vrees is.

12

He shall cut off the spirit of princes: [he is] terrible to the kings of the earth.

Hy sal die gees van vorstes afsny: Hy is vreeslik vir die konings van die aarde.
