A Psalm of Asaph. Truly God [is] good to Israel, [even] to such as are of a clean heart.
Waarlik God is goed vir Israel, selfs vir sulkes as wat ‚'n rein hart is.

But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.
Maar wat my betref, my voete was byna gestruikel; my treë het byna gegly.
3
For I was envious at the foolish, [when] I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
Want ek was jaloers op die dwase, toe ek die voorspoed van die goddelose gesien het.
4
For [there are] no bands in their death: but their strength [is] firm.
Want daar is geen bande in hulle dood nie: maar hulle krag is ferm.
5
They [are] not in trouble [as other] men; neither are they plagued like [other] men.
Hulle is nie in benoudheid soos ander mense nie; en is nie soos ander mense geteister nie.
6
Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them [as] a garment.
Daarom is trots as ‚'n ketting om hulle nek; geweld bedek hulle soos ‚'n kleed.

Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.
Hulle oë staan uit van vet: hulle het meer as die hart kon wens.
8
They are corrupt, and speak wickedly [concerning] oppression: they speak loftily.
Hulle is verdorwe, en spreek boosagtig van verdrukking: hulle spreek hoogmoedig.
9
They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.
Hulle sit hulle mond teen die hemele, en hulle tong wandel deur die aarde.
10
Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full [cup] are wrung out to them.
Daarom keer sy volk hierheen: en waters van ‚'n volle beker word vir hulle uitgedruk.
11
And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?
En hulle sê, Hoe weet God? en is daar kennis by die Allerhoogste?
12
Behold, these [are] the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase [in] riches.
Kyk, dit is die goddelose, wat voorspoedig is in die wêreld; hulle vermeerder in rykdom.
13
Verily I have cleansed my heart [in] vain, and washed my hands in innocency.
Waarlik ek het my hart tevergeefs gereinig, en my hande in onskuld gewas.
14
For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.
Want die hele dag lank was ek geteister, en in die môre bestraf.
15
If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend [against] the generation of thy children.
As ek sê, Ek sal so spreek; kyk, ek sou teen die geslag van u kinders oortree het.
16
When I thought to know this, it [was] too painful for me;
Toe ek dit probeer verstaan het, was dit te pynlik vir my;
17
Until I went into the sanctuary of God; [then] understood I their end.
Totdat ek in die heiligdom van God ingegaan het; toe het ek hulle end verstaan.
18
Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.
Sekerlik sit U hulle in glibberige plekke: U werp hulle neer tot vernietiging.
19
How are they [brought] into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.
Hoe is hulle in ‚'n oomblik tot verwoesting gebring! hulle is heeltemal verteer met verskrikkinge.
20
As a dream when [one] awaketh; [so], O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.
Soos ‚'n droom wanneer ‚'n mens ontwaak; so, o Here, wanneer U ontwaak, sal U hulle beeld verag.
21
Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.
So was my hart verbitterd, en ek is in my niere geprikkel.
22
So foolish [was] I, and ignorant: I was [as] a beast before thee.
So was ek dwaas en onkundig: ek was soos ‚'n dier voor U.
23
Nevertheless I [am] continually with thee: thou hast holden [me] by my right hand.
Nogtans is ek voortdurend by U: U het my by my regterhand gehou.
24
Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me [to] glory.
U sal my met u raad lei, en daarna my tot heerlikheid ontvang.
25
Whom have I in heaven [but thee]? and [there is] none upon earth [that] I desire beside thee.
Wie het ek in die hemel behalwe U? en daar is niemand op die aarde wat ek begeer behalwe U nie.
26
My flesh and my heart faileth: [but] God [is] the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
My vlees en my hart faal: maar God is die sterkte van my hart, en my deel vir ewig.
27
For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
Want kyk, dié wat ver van U is, sal vergaan: U het almal vernietig wat van U af hoereer.
28
But [it is] good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
Maar dit is goed vir my om naby God te trek: ek het my vertroue in die Here GOD gestel, dat ek al u werke mag verklaar.
