Let the redeemed of the LORD say [so], whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
Laat die verlostes van die HERE dit sê, wat Hy uit die hand van die vyand verlos het;

And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.
En uit die lande versamel het, van die ooste, en van die weste, van die noorde, en van die suide.
4
They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.
Hulle het in die wildernis in ’n eensaam pad gedwaal; hulle het geen stad gevind om in te woon nie.
5
Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
Hongerig en dorsig, het hulle siel in hulle flou geword.

Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he delivered them out of their distresses.
Toe het hulle tot die HERE in hulle benoudheid geroep, en Hy het hulle uit hulle benoudhede verlos.
7
And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
En Hy het hulle op die regte pad gelei, dat hulle na ’n stad van woning kon gaan.
8
Oh that [men] would praise the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works to the children of men!
O dat die mense die HERE sou prys vir sy goedheid, en vir sy wonderlike werke aan die kinders van die mens!
9
For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
Want Hy versadig die dorsige siel, en vul die hongerige siel met goedheid.
10
Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, [being] bound in affliction and iron;
Sulkes as in duisternis en in die skaduwee van die dood sit, gebind in benoudheid en yster;
11
Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:
Omdat hulle teen die woorde van God gerebelleer het, en die raad van die Allerhoogste verag het:
12
Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and [there was] none to help.
Daarom het Hy hulle hart met arbeid neergebuig; hulle het geval, en daar was niemand om te help nie.
13
Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he saved them out of their distresses.
Toe het hulle tot die HERE in hulle benoudheid geroep, en Hy het hulle uit hulle benoudhede gered.
14
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.
Hy het hulle uit duisternis en die skaduwee van die dood uitgebring, en hulle bande stukkend gebreek.
15
Oh that [men] would praise the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works to the children of men!
O dat die mense die HERE sou prys vir sy goedheid, en vir sy wonderlike werke aan die kinders van die mens!
16
For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.
Want Hy het die poorte van koper stukkend gebreek, en die grendels van yster stukkend gekap.
17
Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.
Dwase is vanweë hulle oortreding, en vanweë hulle ongeregtighede, geteister.
18
Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.
Hulle siel verafsku alle soorte voedsel; en hulle nader tot die poorte van die dood.
19
Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he saveth them out of their distresses.
Toe het hulle tot die HERE in hulle benoudheid geroep, en Hy het hulle uit hulle benoudhede gered.
20
He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered [them] from their destructions.
Hy het sy woord gestuur, en hulle genees, en hulle van hulle vernietigings verlos.
21
Oh that [men] would praise the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works to the children of men!
O dat die mense die HERE sou prys vir sy goedheid, en vir sy wonderlike werke aan die kinders van die mens!
22
And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.
En laat hulle die offers van danksegging offer, en sy werke met juiging verklaar.
23
They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
Dié wat in skepe na die see afdaal, en besigheid in groot waters doen;
24
These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.
Hierdie sien die werke van die HERE, en sy wonders in die diepte.
25
For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
Want Hy beveel, en verwek die stormagtige wind, wat die golwe daarvan ophef.
26
They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
Hulle styg op na die hemel, hulle gaan af weer na die dieptes: hulle siel is vanweë die benoudheid gesmelt.
27
They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end.
Hulle tuimel heen en weer, en swaai soos ’n dronkaard, en is aan hulle verstand se einde.

Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
Toe het hulle tot die HERE in hulle benoudheid geroep, en Hy bring hulle uit hulle benoudhede.
29
He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
Hy maak die storm ’n stilte, sodat die golwe daarvan stil is.
30
Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
Dan is hulle vrolik omdat hulle stil is; so bring Hy hulle tot hulle begeerde hawe.
31
Oh that [men] would praise the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works to the children of men!
O dat die mense die HERE sou prys vir sy goedheid, en vir sy wonderlike werke aan die kinders van die mens!
32
Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
Laat hulle Hom ook in die vergadering van die volk verhoog, en Hom in die sitting van die ouderlinge prys.
33
He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;
Hy verander riviere in ’n wildernis, en die waterspruite in droë grond;
34
A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.
’n Vrugbare land in onvrugbaarheid, om die goddeloosheid van dié wat daarin woon.
35
He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.
Hy verander die wildernis in ’n staande water, en droë grond in waterspruite.
36
And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;
En daar laat Hy die hongeriges woon, dat hulle ’n stad mag berei om in te woon;
37
And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.
En saai die velde, en plant wingerde, wat vrugte van toename mag voortbring.
38
He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.
Hy seën hulle ook, sodat hulle baie vermeerder; en Hy laat nie hulle vee verminder nie.
39
Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.
Weer is hulle verminder en neergebring deur verdrukking, benoudheid, en smart.
40
He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, [where there is] no way.
Hy stort veragting uit op vorstes, en laat hulle in die wildernis dwaal, waar daar geen pad is nie.
41
Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh [him] families like a flock.
Tog sit Hy die armes hoog uit van benoudheid, en maak hom families soos ’n trop.
42
The righteous shall see [it], and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
Die regverdige sal dit sien, en juig: en al die ongeregtigheid sal haar mond toesteek.
43
Whoso [is] wise, and will observe these [things], even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.
Wie is wys, en sal hierdie dinge ag gee? selfs hulle sal die barmhartigheid van die HERE verstaan.
