1
Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
Paulus en Timótheüs, dienaars van Jesus Christus, aan al die heiliges in Christus Jesus wat in Filippi is, saam met die opsiener en diakens:

Grace [be] unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and [from] the Lord Jesus Christ.
Genade aan julle en vrede van God onse Vader, en van die Here Jesus Christus.
3
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
Ek dank my God by elke herinnering aan julle,
4
Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,
Altyd in elke gebed van my vir julle almal met blydskap bidende,
5
For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;
Vir julle gemeenskap in die evangelie van die eerste dag af tot nou toe;
6
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform [it] until the day of Jesus Christ:
Vertrouende juis hierop, dat Hy wat ‚'n goeie werk in julle begin het, dit sal voleindig tot die dag van Jesus Christus:
7
Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.
Soos dit reg is vir my om so te dink van julle almal, omdat ek julle in my hart het; aangesien beide in my bande, en in die verdediging en bevestiging van die evangelie, julle almal deelgenote is van my genade.

For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.
Want God is my getuie, hoe seer ek na julle almal verlang in die innerlike genegenheid van Jesus Christus.

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and [in] all judgment;
En dit bid ek, dat julle liefde meer en meer oorvloedig mag word in kennis en in alle oordeel;
10
That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;
Dat julle die dinge mag beproef wat uitnemend is; dat julle opregt en sonder aanstoot mag wees tot die dag van Christus;
11
Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
Vervul met die vrugte van die geregtigheid, wat is deur Jesus Christus, tot die heerlikheid en lof van God.
12
But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things [which happened] unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;
Maar ek wil hê, broers, dat julle moet weet dat die dinge wat my oorgekom het, eerder tot die bevordering van die evangelie uitgewerk het;
13
So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other [places];
Sodát my bande in Christus openbaar geword het in die hele paleis, en in alle ander plekke;
14
And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.
En baie van die broers in die Here, vertrouende deur my bande, is veel meer stoutmoedig om die woord sonder vrees te spreek.
15
Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:
Sommige predik wel Christus selfs uit afguns en twis; en sommige ook uit goeie wil:
16
The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
Die een predik Christus uit twis, nie opreg nie, meenende om verdrukking by my bande te voeg:
17
But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
Maar die ander uit liefde, wetende dat ek gestel is tot die verdediging van die evangelie.
18
What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
Wat dan? nietemin, op elke wyse, of dit in voorwendsel of in waarheid is, word Christus verkondig; en daarin verbly ek my, ja, en sal my verbly.

For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
Want ek weet dat dit tot my heil sal uitwerk deur julle gebed, en die bystand van die Gees van Jesus Christus,
20
According to my earnest expectation and [my] hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but [that] with all boldness, as always, [so] now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether [it be] by life, or by death.
Volgens my ernstige verwagting en hoop, dat ek in niks beskaamd sal word nie, maar dat met alle vrymoedigheid, soos altyd, so nou ook Christus verheerlik sal word in my liggaam, of dit deur lewe of deur dood is.
21
For to me to live [is] Christ, and to die [is] gain.
Want vir my is om te lewe Christus, en om te sterwe wins.
22
But if I live in the flesh, this [is] the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.
Maar as ek in die vlees lewe, is dit die vrug van my arbeid: tog wat ek sal kies, weet ek nie.
23
For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
Want ek word van twee kante gedring, hebbende ‚'n begeerte om heen te gaan, en by Christus te wees; wat baie beter is:
24
Nevertheless to abide in the flesh [is] more needful for you.
Nietemin om in die vlees te bly is meer nodig om julle ontwil.
25
And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;
En hierin vertrouende, weet ek dat ek sal bly en by julle almal voortgaan tot julle bevordering en blydskap van die geloof;
26
That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.
Dat julle roem in Jesus Christus oorvloedig mag wees in my deur my koms weer by julle.
27
Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
Laat net julle wandel die evangelie van Christus waardig wees: dat, of ek kom en julle sien, of afwesig is, ek mag hoor van julle sake, dat julle staan in een gees, met een gemoed saam strydende vir die geloof van die evangelie;

And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.
En in niks verskrik deur julle teëstanders nie: wat vir hulle ’n bewys is van verderwing, maar vir julle van heil, en dit van God.
29
For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;
Want aan julle is dit gegee om Christus ontwil, nie alleen in Hom te glo nie, maar ook om sy ontwil te ly;
30
Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear [to be] in me.
Het dieselfde stryd wat julle in my gesien het, en nou in my hoor.
