Now in the twenty and fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sackclothes, and earth upon them.
Nou op die vier en twintigste dag van hierdie maand het die kinders van Israel bymekaargekom met vas, en met rouklere, en aarde op hulle.

And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.
En die saad van Israel het hulleself afgeskei van al die vreemdelinge, en het opgestaan en hulle sondes, en die ongeregtighede van hulle vaders, bely.
3
And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of the LORD their God [one] fourth part of the day; and [another] fourth part they confessed, and worshipped the LORD their God.
En hulle het op hulle plek opgestaan, en ‚'n vierde deel van die dag in die boek van die wet van die HERE hulle God gelees; en ‚'n ander vierde deel het hulle bely, en die HERE hulle God aanbid.

Then stood up upon the stairs, of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, [and] Chenani, and cried with a loud voice unto the LORD their God.
Toe het Jesua, en Bani, Kadmíël, Sebanja, Bunni, Serebja, Bani, en Kenani, opgestaan op die trap van die Leviete, en met ’n groot stem tot die HERE hulle God geroep.

Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, [and] Pethahiah, said, Stand up [and] bless the LORD your God for ever and ever: and blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.
Toe het die Leviete, Jesua, en Kadmíël, Bani, Hasabneja, Serebja, Hodía, Sebanja, en Petagja, gesê, Staan op en seën die HERE julle God vir ewig en altyd: en geseënd is u heerlike Naam, wat verhewe is bo alle seën en lof.

Thou, [even] thou, [art] LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all [things] that [are] therein, the seas, and all that [is] therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.
U, selfs U, is HERE alleen; U het die hemel gemaak, die hemel van die hemele, met al hulle leër, die aarde, en alles wat daarop is, die see, en alles wat daarin is, en U bewaar hulle almal; en die leër van die hemel aanbid U.

Thou [art] the LORD the God, who didst choose Abram, and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham;
U is die HERE die God, wat Abram gekies het, en hom uit Ur van die Chaldeërs uitgebring het, en hom die naam Abraham gegee het;

And foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give [it, I say], to his seed, and hast performed thy words; for thou [art] righteous:
En sy hart getrou voor U gevind het, en ’n verbond met hom gemaak het om die land van die Kanaäniete, die Hetiete, die Amoriete, en die Feresiete, en die Jebusiete, en die Girgasiete, te gee, om dit aan sy saad te gee, en U het u woorde uitgevoer; want U is regverdig:

And didst see the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and heardest their cry by the Red sea;
En U het die benoudheid van ons vaders in Egipte gesien, en hulle geroep by die Skelfsee gehoor;
10
And shewedst signs and wonders upon Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of his land: for thou knewest that they dealt proudly against them. So didst thou get thee a name, as [it is] this day.
En tekens en wonders aan Farao, en aan al sy dienaars, en aan al die volk van sy land, bewys: want U het geweet dat hulle trots teen hulle gehandel het. So het U vir U ‚'n Naam gemaak, soos dit vandag is.

And thou didst divide the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and their persecutors thou threwest into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters.
En U het die see voor hulle deurgegaan, sodat hulle deur die midde van die see op die droë land gegaan het; en hulle vervolgers het U in die dieptes gegooi, soos ’n klip in die magtige waters.

Moreover thou leddest them in the day by a cloudy pillar; and in the night by a pillar of fire, to give them light in the way wherein they should go.
Bowendien het U hulle in die dag met ‚'n wolkkolom gelei, en in die nag met ‚'n vuurkolom, om hulle die weg te gee waarin hulle moet gaan.

Thou camest down also upon mount Sinai, and spakest with them from heaven, and gavest them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commandments:
U het ook neergekom op die berg Sinai, en met hulle uit die hemel gespreek, en aan hulle regte oordele, en ware wette, goeie insettinge en gebooie gegee:

And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant:
En u heilige sabbat aan hulle bekend gemaak, en gebooie, insettinge, en ‚'n wet, deur die hand van u dienaar Moses beveel:
15
And gavest them bread from heaven for their hunger, and broughtest forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and promisedst them that they should go in to possess the land which thou hadst sworn to give them.
En aan hulle brood uit die hemel vir hulle honger gegee, en water vir hulle dors uit die rots uitgebring, en aan hulle beloof dat hulle moet ingaan om die land te besit wat U u hand opgelig het om aan hulle te gee.

But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their necks, and hearkened not to thy commandments,
Maar hulle en ons vaders het trots gehandel, en hulle nekke verhard, en nie na u gebooie geluister nie,
17
And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: but thou [art] a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them not.
En geweier om te gehoorsaam, en nie u wonders wat U onder hulle gedoen het, onthou nie; maar hulle nekke verhard, en in hulle opstand ‚'n kaptein aangestel om terug te keer na hulle diensbaarheid: maar U is ‚'n God gereed om te vergewe, genadig en barmhartig, lankmoedig, en van groot goedheid, en het hulle nie verlaat nie.

Yea, when they had made them a molten calf, and said, This [is] thy God that brought thee up out of Egypt, and had wrought great provocations;
Ja, toe hulle vir hulleself ’n gegote kalf gemaak het, en gesê het, Dit is jou gode wat jou uit Egipte opgebring het, en groot terginge gedoen het;

Yet thou in thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness: the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to shew them light, and the way wherein they should go.
Nogtans het U in u menigvuldige barmhartighede hulle nie in die wildernis verlaat nie: die wolkkolom het nie van hulle afgewyk in die dag om hulle in die weg te lei nie; en die vuurkolom in die nag om hulle die lig te gee, en die weg waarin hulle moet gaan.

Thou gavest also thy good spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst.
U het ook u goeie Gees gegee om hulle te onderrig, en u manna nie van hulle mond weerhou nie, en water vir hulle dors gegee.
21
Yea, forty years didst thou sustain them in the wilderness, [so that] they lacked nothing; their clothes waxed not old, and their feet swelled not.
Ja, veertig jaar lank het U hulle in die wildernis onderhou, sodat hulle niks ontbreek het nie; hulle klere het nie oud geword nie, en hulle voete nie geswel nie.

Moreover thou gavest them kingdoms and nations, and didst divide them into corners: so they possessed the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.
Bowendien het U aan hulle koninkryke en nasies gegee, en hulle in hoeke verdeel: so het hulle die land van Sihon, en die land van die koning van Hesbon, en die land van Og koning van Basan, in besit geneem.

Their children also multipliedst thou as the stars of heaven, and broughtest them into the land, concerning which thou hadst promised to their fathers, that they should go in to possess [it].
Hulle kinders het U ook vermeerder soos die sterre van die hemel, en hulle in die land gebring, aangaande wat U aan hulle vaders gesê het, dat hulle moet ingaan om dit te besit.
24
So the children went in and possessed the land, and thou subduedst before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gavest them into their hands, with their kings, and the people of the land, that they might do with them as they would.
So het die kinders dan ingegaan en die land in besit geneem, en U het die inwoners van die land, die Kanaäniete, voor hulle onderwerp, en hulle in hulle hand gegee, met hulle konings, en die volke van die land, dat hulle met hulle mag doen soos hulle wil.

And they took strong cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all goods, wells digged, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit trees in abundance: so they did eat, and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in thy great goodness.
En hulle het versterkte stede, en ’n vet land, geneem, en huise vol van alle goed in besit geneem, putte uitgegrawe, wingerde, en olyfbome, en vrugtebome in menigte: so het hulle geëet, en versadig geword, en vet geword, en hulle verlustig in u groot goedheid.

Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.
Nogtans was hulle ongehoorsaam, en het teen U in opstand gekom, en u wet agter hulle rug gegooi, en u profete doodgemaak wat teen hulle getuig het om hulle tot U terug te bring, en hulle het groot terginge gedoen.

Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest [them] from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.
Daarom het U hulle in die hand van hulle vyande oorgegee, wat hulle benoud gemaak het: en in die tyd van hulle benoudheid, toe hulle tot U geroep het, het U uit die hemel gehoor; en volgens u menigvuldige barmhartighede het U hulle verlossers gegee, wat hulle uit die hand van hulle vyande gered het.

But after they had rest, they did evil again before thee: therefore leftest thou them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them: yet when they returned, and cried unto thee, thou heardest [them] from heaven; and many times didst thou deliver them according to thy mercies;
Maar ná hulle rus het hulle weer kwaad voor U gedoen: daarom het U hulle in die hand van hulle vyande gelaat, sodat hulle heerskappy oor hulle gehad het: tog toe hulle teruggekeer en tot U geroep het, het U uit die hemel gehoor; en baie kere het U hulle volgens u barmhartighede verlos;

And testifiedst against them, that thou mightest bring them again unto thy law: yet they dealt proudly, and hearkened not unto thy commandments, but sinned against thy judgments, (which if a man do, he shall live in them;) and withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear.
En teen hulle getuig, dat U hulle mag terugbring tot u wet: tog het hulle trots gehandel, en nie na u gebooie geluister nie, maar teen u oordele gesondig, (wat as ‚'n mens doen, hy sal daardeur lewe;) en die skouer getrek, en die nek verhard, en nie gehoor nie.

Yet many years didst thou forbear them, and testifiedst against them by thy spirit in thy prophets: yet would they not give ear: therefore gavest thou them into the hand of the people of the lands.
Nogtans het U baie jare lank met hulle verdra, en teen hulle getuig deur u Gees in u profete: tog wou hulle nie luister nie: daarom het U hulle in die hand van die volke van die lande oorgegee.
31
Nevertheless for thy great mercies’ sake thou didst not utterly consume them, nor forsake them; for thou [art] a gracious and merciful God.
Nogtans in u groot barmhartighede het U hulle nie heeltemal vernietig, of hulle verlaat nie; want U is ‚'n genadige en barmhartige God.
32
Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keepest covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that hath come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all thy people, since the time of the kings of Assyria unto this day.
Nou daarom, onse God, die groot, die magtige, en die vreeslike God, wat die verbond en barmhartigheid bewaar, laat al die moeite wat oor ons gekom het, oor ons konings, oor ons vorstes, en oor ons priesters, en oor ons profete, en oor ons vaders, en oor al u volk, van die dae van die konings van Assirië af tot op hierdie dag, nie klein voor U wees nie.
33
Howbeit thou [art] just in all that is brought upon us; for thou hast done right, but we have done wickedly:
Hoebeit U is regverdig in al wat oor ons gekom het: want U het reg gehandel, maar ons het goddeloos gehandel:

Neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept thy law, nor hearkened unto thy commandments and thy testimonies, wherewith thou didst testify against them.
En ons konings, ons vorstes, ons priesters, en ons vaders, het nie u wet bewaar nie, en nie aandag gegee aan u gebooie en u getuienisse, waarmee U teen hulle getuig het nie.
35
For they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land which thou gavest before them, neither turned they from their wicked works.
Want hulle het U nie in hulle koninkryk, en in u groot goedheid wat U aan hulle gegee het, en in die groot en vet land wat U voor hulle gesit het, gedien nie, en hulle nie van hulle boos dade bekeer nie.
36
Behold, we [are] servants this day, and [for] the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof, behold, we [are] servants in it:
Kyk, ons is vandag diensknegte, en vir die land wat U aan ons vaders gegee het om die vrug daarvan en die goeie daarvan te eet, kyk, ons is diensknegte daarin:
37
And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom thou hast set over us because of our sins: also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we [are] in great distress.
En dit bring baie toename voort aan die konings wat U oor ons gestel het vanweë ons sondes: ook heers hulle oor ons liggame, en oor ons vee, na hulle behae, en ons is in groot benoudheid.
38
And because of all this we make a sure [covenant], and write [it]; and our princes, Levites, [and] priests, seal [unto it].
En vanweë al hierdie dinge maak ons ’n seker verbond, en skryf dit; en ons vorstes, Leviete, en priesters, verseël dit.
