As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
Soos dit geskrywe is in die profete, Kyk, ek stuur my boodskapper voor u aangesig, wat u weg voor U sal berei.

The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Die stem van een wat roep in die wildernis, Berei die weg van die Here, maak sy paaie reguit.

John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
Johannes het gedoop in die wildernis, en die doop van bekering tot vergifnis van sondes gepreek.

And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.
En die hele land van Judea, en dié van Jérusalem, het na hom uitgegaan, en is almal deur hom in die Jordaanrivier gedoop, terwyl hulle hulle sondes bely het.

And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;
En Johannes was gekleed met kameelhaar, en met ’n leergordel om sy lendene; en hy het sprinkane en wilde heuning geëet;

And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.
En het gepreek, sê, Daar kom een ná my wat magtiger is as ek, die riem van wie se skoene ek nie waardig is om neer te buk en los te maak nie.

I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
Ek het julle wel met water gedoop: maar Hy sal julle met die Heilige Gees doop.

And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.
En dit het gebeur in daardie dae, dat Jesus van Nasaret in Galilea gekom het, en deur Johannes in die Jordaan gedoop is.

And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:
En dadelik toe Hy uit die water opklim, het Hy die hemele sien oopgaan, en die Gees soos ‚'n duif op Hom neerdaal:

And there came a voice from heaven, [saying], Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
En daar het ’n stem uit die hemele gekom, sê, Jy is my geliefde Seun, in wie ek behae het.

And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.
En dadelik het die Gees Hom in die wildernis uitgedryf.

And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.
En Hy was daar in die wildernis veertig dae, versoek deur die Satan; en was by die wilde diere; en die engele het Hom bedien.

Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
Nou nadat Johannes oorgelewer is, het Jesus in Galilea gekom, en die evangelie van die koninkryk van God gepreek,

And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
En gesê, Die tyd is vervul, en die koninkryk van God is naby: bekeer julle, en glo die evangelie.

Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
Nou toe Hy by die see van Galilea gewandel het, het Hy Simon en Andréas sy broer gesien, wat ’n net in die see gegooi het: want hulle was vissers.

And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
En Jesus het tot hulle gesê, Kom agter My aan, en ek sal julle vissers van mense maak.

And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.
En dadelik het hulle hulle nette verlaat, en Hom gevolg.

And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw James the [son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.
En toe Hy ’n bietjie verder gegaan het, het Hy Jakobus die seun van Sebedéüs, en Johannes sy broer, gesien, wat ook in die skip was, en hulle nette reggemaak.

And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.
En dadelik het Hy hulle geroep: en hulle het hulle vader Sebedéüs in die skip by die huurlinge verlaat, en Hom gevolg.

And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.
En hulle het in Kapérnaüm ingegaan; en dadelik op die sabbat het Hy in die sinagoge gegaan, en geleer.

And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
En hulle was verbaas oor sy leer: want Hy het hulle geleer soos een wat gesag het, en nie soos die skrifgeleerdes nie.

And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
En daar was in hulle sinagoge ‚'n man met ‚'n onreine gees; en hy het uitgeroep,

Saying, Let [us] alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
Sê, Laat ons met rus; wat het ons met U te doen, U Jesus van Nasaret? is U gekom om ons te vernietig? ek weet wie U is, die Heilige van God.

And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
En Jesus het hom bestraf, sê, Bly stil, en gaan uit van hom.

And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
En toe die onreine gees hom stuiptrekkings gegee het, en met ‚'n groot stem uitgeroep het, het hy van hom uitgegaan.

And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine [is] this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
En hulle was almal verbaas, insoweer dat hulle onder mekaar gevra het, sê, Wat is dit? watter nuwe leer is dit? want met gesag beveel Hy selfs die onreine geeste, en hulle gehoorsaam Hom.

And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.
En dadelik het sy roem uitgegaan deur die hele streek rondom Galilea.

And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
En dadelik, toe hulle uit die sinagoge uitgegaan het, het hulle in die huis van Simon en Andréas gegaan, met Jakobus en Johannes.

But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.
Maar Simon se skoonmoeder het siek gelê van die koors, en dadelik het hulle Hom van haar vertel.

And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
En Hy het gekom en haar by die hand gegryp, en haar opgerig; en dadelik het die koors haar verlaat, en sy het hulle bedien.

And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.
En teen die aand, toe die son ondergegaan het, het hulle na Hom gebring almal wat siek was, en dié wat van duiwels besete was.

And all the city was gathered together at the door.
En die hele stad was bymekaar by die deur.

And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.
En Hy het baie genees wat siek was van verskillende siektes, en baie duiwels uitgedryf; en het die duiwels nie toegelaat om te spreek nie, omdat hulle Hom geken het.

And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
En in die môre, vroeg voor dag, het Hy opgestaan, en uitgegaan, en in ’n verlate plek gegaan, en daar gebid.

And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.
En Simon en dié wat by Hom was, het Hom gevolg.

And when they had found him, they said unto him, All [men] seek for thee.
En toe hulle Hom gevind het, het hulle tot Hom gesê, Almal soek U.

And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.
En Hy het tot hulle gesê, Laat ons na die naburige dorpe gaan, dat ek daar ook mag preek: want daarom is ek uitgekom.

And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils.
En Hy het in hulle sinagoges deur die hele Galilea gepreek, en die duiwels uitgedryf.
40
And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
En daar het ’n melaatse by Hom gekom, wat Hom gesmeek het, en voor Hom gekniel, en tot Hom gesê, As U wil, kan U my reinig.
41
And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth [his] hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
En Jesus, met ontferming bewoë, het sy hand uitgestrek, en hom aangeraak, en tot hom gesê, Ek wil; wees rein.
42
And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.
En so gou as Hy gespreek het, het die melaatsheid dadelik van hom weggegaan, en hy is gereinig.
43
And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away;
En Hy het hom streng beveel, en hom dadelik weggestuur;
44
And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
En tot hom gesê, Kyk dat jy niks aan iemand sê nie: maar gaan jou weg, toon jouself aan die priester, en offer vir jou reiniging die dinge wat Moses beveel het, tot ’n getuienis vir hulle.

But he went out, and began to publish [it] much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
Maar hy het uitgegaan, en begin om dit baie te verkondig, en die saak te publiseer, insoweer dat Jesus nie meer openlik in die stad kon ingaan nie, maar was buite in verlate plekke: en hulle het van alle kante na Hom gekom.
