Now upon the first [day] of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain [others] with them.
Nou op die eerste dag van die week, baie vroeg in die môre, het hulle by die graf gekom, en die speserye gebring wat hulle berei het, en sekere andere saam met hulle.

And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
En hulle het die klip van die graf weggerol gevind.

And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
En hulle het ingegaan, en die liggaam van die Here Jesus nie gevind nie.

And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
En dit het gebeur, soos hulle hieroor verleë was, kyk, twee manne het by hulle gestaan in blink klere:

And as they were afraid, and bowed down [their] faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
En soos hulle bevrees was, en hulle aangesigte na die aarde toe gebuig het, het hulle tot hulle gesê, Waarom soek julle die lewende by die dooies?

He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
Hy is nie hier nie, maar is opgewek: onthou hoe Hy tot julle gespreek het toe Hy nog in Galilea was,

Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
Sê, Die Seun van die mens moet oorgelewer word in die hande van sondige mense, en gekruisig word, en die derde dag opstaan.

And they remembered his words,
En hulle het sy woorde onthou,

And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
En van die graf teruggekeer, en al hierdie dinge aan die elf, en aan al die ander, vertel.

It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary [the mother] of James, and other [women that were] with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
Dit was Maria Magdaléna, en Johanna, en Maria die moeder van Jakobus, en die ander vroue wat saam met hulle was, wat hierdie dinge aan die apostels vertel het.

And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.
En hulle woorde het in hulle ore soos ydele praatjies gelyk, en hulle het hulle nie geglo nie.

Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
Toe het Petrus opgestaan, en na die graf gehardloop; en hy het vooroor gebuig, en die doeke alleen sien lê, en is weggegaan, by homself verwonderende oor dit wat gebeur het.

And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem [about] threescore furlongs.
En kyk, twee van hulle het dieselfde dag na ’n dorp gegaan wat omtrent sestig stadië van Jérusalem was, genaamd Emmaüs.

And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
En hulle het saam met mekaar gespreek oor al hierdie dinge wat gebeur het.
15
And it came to pass, that, while they communed [together] and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
En dit het gebeur, dat, terwyl hulle saam gespreek en geredeneer het, Jesus self nader gekom het, en met hulle saamgegaan het.
16
But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
Maar hulle oë is toegesluit, dat hulle Hom nie herken het nie.

And he said unto them, What manner of communications [are] these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
En Hy het tot hulle gesê, Watter soort gesprekke is dit wat julle met mekaar voer soos julle wandel, en is bedroef?

And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
En die een van hulle, met die naam van Kléopas, het geantwoord en tot Hom gesê, Is U alleen ’n vreemdeling in Jérusalem, en het U nie geweet van die dinge wat in hierdie dae daarin gebeur het nie?

And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
En Hy het tot hulle gesê, Watter dinge? En hulle het tot Hom gesê, Aangaande Jesus van Nasaret, wat ’n profeet was, magtig in daad en woord voor God en die hele volk:

And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
En hoe die owerpriesters en ons owerstes Hom oorgelewer het om veroordeel te word tot die dood, en Hom gekruisig het.
21
But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
Maar ons het gehoop dat dit Hy was wat Israel sou verlos: en behalwe al hierdie dinge, is dit vandag die derde dag sedert hierdie dinge gebeur het.
22
Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
Ja, en sekere vroue ook van ons geselskap het ons verbaas, wat vroeg by die graf was;

And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
En toe hulle sy liggaam nie gevind het nie, het hulle gekom, en gesê dat hulle ook ’n gesig van engele gesien het, wat gesê het dat Hy lewe.

And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found [it] even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
En sekere van dié wat by ons was, het na die graf gegaan, en dit so gevind soos die vroue gesê het: maar Hom het hulle nie gesien nie.
25
Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
Toe het Hy tot hulle gesê, o Dwase, en traag van hart om te glo al die dinge wat die profete gespreek het:
26
Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
Moes die Christus nie hierdie dinge ly, en in sy heerlikheid ingaan nie?
27
And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
En beginende by Moses en al die profete, het Hy hulle in al die Skrifte die dinge aangaande Homself uitgelê.

And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
En hulle het naby die dorp gekom waarheen hulle gegaan het: en Hy het gemaak asof Hy verder sou gaan.

But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
Maar hulle het Hom genood, sê, Bly by ons: want dit is naby die aand, en die dag is nou verby. En Hy het ingegaan om by hulle te bly.

And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed [it], and brake, and gave to them.
En dit het gebeur, soos Hy by die tafel saam met hulle gesit het, dat Hy brood geneem het, en dit geseën, en gebreek, en aan hulle gegee het.

And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
En hulle oë is oopgemaak, en hulle het Hom herken; en Hy is uit hulle sig verdwyn.

And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
En hulle het tot mekaar gesê, Het ons hart nie in ons gebrand terwyl Hy met ons op die pad gespreek het, en terwyl Hy die Skrifte vir ons oopgemaak het nie?

And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
En hulle het in dieselfde uur opgestaan, en na Jérusalem teruggekeer, en die elf gevind bymekaar, en dié wat by hulle was,

Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
Sê, Die Here is waarlik opgewek, en het aan Simon verskyn.
35
And they told what things [were done] in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.
En hulle het vertel wat op die pad gebeur het, en hoe Hy aan hulle bekend geword het in die breek van die brood.

And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace [be] unto you.
En soos hulle so gespreek het, het Jesus self in die midde van hulle gestaan, en tot hulle gesê, Vrede vir julle.
37
But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
Maar hulle was verskrik en bevrees, en het gemeen dat hulle ’n gees sien.
38
And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
En Hy het tot hulle gesê, Waarom is julle ontsteld? en waarom kom daar twyfelings op in julle harte?
39
Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
Kyk my hande en my voete, dat dit Ek self is: voel aan My, en sien; want ’n gees het nie vlees en bene soos julle sien dat ek het nie.
40
And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them [his] hands and [his] feet.
En toe Hy dit gesê het, het Hy hulle sy hande en sy voete gewys.
41
And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?
En terwyl hulle nog van blydskap nie geglo het nie, en hulle verwonder het, het Hy tot hulle gesê, Het julle hier iets om te eet?
42
And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
En hulle het Hom ’n stuk van ’n gebraaide vis, en van ’n heuningkoek gegee.
43
And he took [it], and did eat before them.
En Hy het dit geneem, en voor hulle geëet.
44
And he said unto them, These [are] the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and [in] the prophets, and [in] the psalms, concerning me.
En Hy het tot hulle gesê, Dit is die woorde wat ek tot julle gespreek het, terwyl ek nog by julle was, dat alles vervul moet word wat van My geskrywe is in die wet van Moses, en in die profete, en in die psalms.

Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
Toe het Hy hulle verstand oopgemaak, dat hulle die Skrifte kon verstaan,
46
And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
En tot hulle gesê, So is dit geskrywe, en so was dit nodig dat die Christus ly, en opstaan uit die dooies die derde dag:
47
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
En dat bekering en vergifnis van sondes in sy Naam verkondig word onder al die nasies, begin by Jérusalem.

And ye are witnesses of these things.
En julle is getuies van hierdie dinge.
49
And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
En kyk, ek stuur die belofte van my Vader op julle: maar bly julle in die stad van Jérusalem, totdat julle beklee word met krag uit die hoogte.
50
And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
En Hy het hulle uitgelei tot by Betánië, en sy hande opgehef, en hulle geseën.
51
And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
En dit het gebeur, terwyl Hy hulle seën, dat Hy van hulle geskei is, en opgeneem is in die hemel.
52
And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
En hulle het Hom aanbid, en met groot blydskap na Jérusalem teruggekeer:
53
And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
En was voortdurend in die tempel, God prysende en seëninge. Amen.
