And he spake a parable unto them [to this end], that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
Sê, Daar was in ’n stad ’n regter, wat God nie gevrees het nie, en geen mens ontsien het nie:

And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
En daar was ’n weduwee in daardie stad; en sy het by hom gekom, sê, Doen my reg teen my teëstander.

And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
En hy wou ’n tyd lank nie: maar daarna het hy by homself gesê, Alhoewel ek God nie vrees nie, en geen mens ontsien nie;
5
Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
Tog, omdat hierdie weduwee my bemoeilik, sal ek haar reg doen, anders sal sy deur haar aanhoudende kom my moeg maak.

And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
En die Here het gesê, Hoor wat die onregverdige regter sê.

And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
En sal God nie reg doen aan sy eie uitverkorenes, wat dag en nag tot Hom roep nie, al is Hy lankmoedig teenoor hulle?

I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
Ek sê vir julle dat Hy hulle spoedig reg sal doen. Nietemin, wanneer die Seun van die mens kom, sal Hy wel die geloof op die aarde vind?

And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
En Hy het hierdie gelykenis gespreek tot sekere wat op hulleself vertrou het dat hulle regverdig was, en ander verag het:

Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
Twee manne het opgegaan na die tempel om te bid; die een ’n Fariseër, en die ander ’n tollenaar.

The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men [are], extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
Die Fariseër het gestaan en by homself so gebid, God, ek dank U, dat ek nie is soos die ander mense nie, afpersers, onregverdiges, egbrekers, of selfs soos hierdie tollenaar.

I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
Ek vas twee maal in die week, ek gee tiendes van alles wat ek besit.

And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as [his] eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
En die tollenaar, wat van ver af gestaan het, wou selfs nie sy oë na die hemel ophef nie, maar het op sy bors geklop, sê, God, wees my, die sondaar, genadig.

I tell you, this man went down to his house justified [rather] than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Ek sê vir julle, Hierdie man het afgegaan na sy huis geregverdig eerder as die ander: want elkeen wat homself verhef, sal verneder word; en hy wat homself verneder, sal verhef word.

And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when [his] disciples saw [it], they rebuked them.
En hulle het ook kindertjies by Hom gebring, dat Hy hulle sou aanraak: maar toe sy dissipels dit sien, het hulle hulle bestraf.

But Jesus called them [unto him], and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
Maar Jesus het hulle by Hom geroep, en gesê, Laat die kindertjies tot My kom, en verhinder hulle nie: want aan sulkes behoort die koninkryk van God.
17
Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
Voorwaar sê ek vir julle, Elkeen wat die koninkryk van God nie soos ’n kindjie ontvang nie, sal geensins daarin ingaan nie.

And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
En ’n sekere owerste het Hom gevra, sê, Goeie Meester, wat moet ek doen om die ewige lewe te beërwe?
19
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none [is] good, save one, [that is], God.
En Jesus het tot hom gesê, Waarom noem jy My goed? niemand is goed nie, behalwe een, dit is God.
20
Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
Jy ken die gebooie, Jy moet nie egbreuk pleeg nie, Jy moet nie doodslaan nie, Jy moet nie steel nie, Jy moet nie valse getuienis gee nie, Eer jou vader en jou moeder.

And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
En hy het gesê, Al hierdie dinge het ek van my jeug af bewaar.

Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
Nou toe Jesus dit hoor, het Hy tot hom gesê, Nog een ding ontbreek jou: verkoop alles wat jy het, en deel dit uit onder die armes, en jy sal ’n skat in die hemele hê: en kom, volg My.

And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
En toe hy dit gehoor het, was hy baie bedroef: want hy was baie ryk.

And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
En toe Jesus sien dat hy baie bedroef was, het Hy gesê, Hoe moeilik sal dié wat ryk is, in die koninkryk van God ingaan!

For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Want dit is makliker vir ‚'n kameel om deur ‚'n naald se oog te gaan, as vir ‚'n ryk man om in die koninkryk van God in te gaan.

And they that heard [it] said, Who then can be saved?
En dié wat dit gehoor het, het gesê, Wie kan dan gered word?
27
And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
En Hy het gesê, Die dinge wat by die mens onmoontlik is, is by God moontlik.
28
Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.
Toe het Petrus gesê, Kyk, ons het alles verlaat, en U gevolg.

And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake,
En Hy het tot hulle gesê, Voorwaar sê ek vir julle, Daar is niemand wat huis, of ouers, of broers, of vrou, of kinders, verlaat het om die koninkryk van God ontwil,

Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.
Wat nie baie meer sal ontvang in hierdie teenwoordige tyd, en in die toekomende wêreld die ewige lewe nie.

Then he took [unto him] the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.
Toe het Hy die twaalf by Hom geneem, en tot hulle gesê, Kyk, ons gaan op na Jérusalem, en al die dinge wat deur die profete van die Seun van die mens geskrywe is, sal volbring word.

For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:
Want Hy sal aan die heidene oorgelewer word, en sal bespot, en skandelik behandel, en bespuug word:
33
And they shall scourge [him], and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
En hulle sal Hom gesels, en Hom doodmaak: en die derde dag sal Hy weer opstaan.

And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
En hulle het niks van hierdie dinge verstaan nie: en hierdie woord was vir hulle verborge, en hulle het nie geweet wat gesê is nie.

And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:
En dit het gebeur, dat soos Hy naby Jérigo kom, ’n sekere blinde by die pad gesit het om te bedel:

And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
En toe hy die skare hoor verbygaan, het hy gevra wat dit beteken.

And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.
En hulle het hom vertel dat Jesus van Nasaret verbygaan.

And he cried, saying, Jesus, [thou] Son of David, have mercy on me.
En hy het uitgeroep, sê, Jesus, U Seun van Dawid, wees my barmhartig.

And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, [Thou] Son of David, have mercy on me.
En dié wat vooruitgegaan het, het hom bestraf dat hy stil moes bly: maar hy het des te meer uitgeroep, U Seun van Dawid, wees my barmhartig.

And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,
En Jesus het stilgestaan, en beveel dat hy by Hom gebring word: en toe hy naby gekom het, het Hy hom gevra,
41
Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
Sê, Wat wil jy hê dat ek vir jou moet doen? En hy het gesê, Here, dat ek mag sien.
42
And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.
En Jesus het tot hom gesê, Ontvang jou sig: jou geloof het jou gered.
43
And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw [it], gave praise unto God.
En dadelik het hy sy sig ontvang, en Hom gevolg, God verheerlikende: en die hele volk, toe hulle dit sien, het God lof gegee.
