And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.
En dit het gebeur, soos Hy in die huis van een van die owerstes van die Fariseërs gegaan het om brood te eet op die sabbatdag, dat hulle Hom dopgehou het.

And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.
En kyk, daar was ‚'n sekere man voor Hom wat die watersug gehad het.

And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?
En Jesus het geantwoord en tot die wetgeleerdes en Fariseërs gespreek, sê, Is dit geoorloof om op die sabbatdag te genees?

And they held their peace. And he took [him], and healed him, and let him go;
En hulle het stilgebly. En Hy het hom geneem, en genees, en laat gaan;
5
And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?
En tot hulle geantwoord, sê, Wie van julle sal ’n esel of ’n os hê, wat in ’n put val, en sal hom nie dadelik uittrek op die sabbatdag nie?

And they could not answer him again to these things.
En hulle kon Hom nie hierop antwoord nie.

And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,
En Hy het ’n gelykenis tot dié gespreek wat genooi was, toe Hy gemerk het hoe hulle die voorste sitplekke gekies het; sê tot hulle,

When thou art bidden of any [man] to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;
Wanneer jy deur iemand tot ‚'n bruilof genooi word, sit nie in die voorste sitplek nie; anders mag ‚'n meer eerbare man as jy deur hom genooi wees;

And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.
En hy wat jou en hom genooi het, kom en sê tot jou, Gee hierdie man plek; en jy begin met skaamte om die laaste plek in te neem.

But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.
Maar wanneer jy genooi word, gaan en sit in die laaste plek; dat, wanneer hy wat jou genooi het, kom, hy tot jou mag sê, Vriend, gaan hoër op: dan sal jy eer hê voor dié wat saam met jou by die tafel sit.

For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Want elkeen wat homself verhef, sal verneder word; en hy wat homself verneder, sal verhef word.

Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor [thy] rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.
Toe het Hy ook tot hom gesê wat Hom genooi het, Wanneer jy ’n middagete of ’n aandete maak, roep nie jou vriende, of jou broers, of jou familie, of jou ryk bure nie; anders mag hulle jou ook weer nooi, en ’n vergelding aan jou gemaak word.

But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
Maar wanneer jy ‚'n fees maak, roep die armes, die verminktes, die verlamdes, die blindes:
14
And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.
En jy sal geseënd wees; want hulle kan jou nie vergeld nie: want jy sal vergeld word by die opstanding van die regverdiges.

And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed [is] he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
En toe een van dié wat saam by die tafel gesit het, hierdie dinge gehoor het, het hy tot Hom gesê, Geseënd is hy wat brood sal eet in die koninkryk van God.

Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:
Toe het Hy tot hom gesê, ’n Sekere man het ’n groot aandete gemaak, en baie genooi:
17
And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.
En hy het sy dienaar gestuur op die tyd van die aandete om aan dié wat genooi was, te sê, Kom; want alle dinge is nou gereed.
18
And they all with one [consent] began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
En hulle het almal met een akkoord begin om verskoning te maak. Die eerste het tot hom gesê, Ek het ’n stuk grond gekoop, en ek moet noodwendig uitgaan en dit sien: ek bid jou, het my verskoon.

And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.
En ’n ander het gesê, Ek het vyf juk osse gekoop, en ek gaan om hulle te toets: ek bid jou, het my verskoon.
20
And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
En ’n ander het gesê, Ek het ’n vrou getrou, en daarom kan ek nie kom nie.

So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.
So het daardie dienaar gekom, en hierdie dinge aan sy heer vertel. Toe het die huiseienaar in toorn gesê tot sy dienaar, Gaan gou uit in die strate en lane van die stad, en bring hier in die armes, en die verminktes, en die verlamdes, en die blindes.

And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.
En die dienaar het gesê, Heer, dit is gedoen soos u beveel het, en daar is nog plek.

And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel [them] to come in, that my house may be filled.
En die heer het tot die dienaar gesê, Gaan uit in die paaie en heinings, en dwing hulle om in te kom, dat my huis vol mag word.
24
For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.
Want ek sê vir julle, Dat nie een van daardie manne wat genooi was, van my aandete sal proe nie.
25
And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
En daar het groot skare saam met Hom gegaan: en Hy het Hom omgedraai, en tot hulle gesê,
26
If any [man] come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
As iemand tot My kom, en haat nie sy vader, en moeder, en vrou, en kinders, en broers, en susters, ja, en sy eie lewe ook nie, hy kan nie my dissipel wees nie.

And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
En elkeen wat sy kruis nie dra, en agter My aan kom nie, kan nie my dissipel wees nie.
28
For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have [sufficient] to finish [it]?
Want wie van julle, wat ‚'n toring wil bou, sit nie eers neer, en bereken die koste, of hy genoeg het om dit te voltooi nie?
29
Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish [it], all that behold [it] begin to mock him,
Anders, nadat hy die fondament gelê het, en nie in staat is om dit te voltooi nie, begin almal wat dit sien, hom te bespot,
30
Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
Sê, Hierdie man het begin om te bou, en was nie in staat om dit te voltooi nie.
31
Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
Of watter koning, wat gaan om oorlog te maak teen ‚'n ander koning, sit nie eers neer, en beraadslaag of hy in staat is met tien duisend om hom te ontmoet wat teen hom kom met twintig duisend nie?

Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
Of anders, terwyl die ander nog ver is, stuur hy ‚'n gesantskap, en begeer vredesvoorwaardes.

So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
So dan, elkeen van julle wat nie afstand doen van alles wat hy het nie, kan nie my dissipel wees nie.

Salt [is] good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?
Sout is goed: maar as die sout sy smaak verloor het, waarmee sal dit smaaklik gemaak word?
35
It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; [but] men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Dit is nie geskik vir die land, of nog vir die mishoop nie; maar die mense gooi dit uit. Hy wat ore het om te hoor, laat hom hoor.
