For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.
Want toorn dood die dwase man, en afguns slaan die eenvoudige dood.

I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.
Ek het die dwaas gesien wat wortel skiet: maar skielik het ek sy woning vervloek.

His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither [is there] any to deliver [them].
Sy kinders is ver van veiligheid, en hulle word verdruk in die poort, en daar is niemand om hulle te red nie.
5
Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance.
Wie se oes die hongerige eet, en neem dit selfs uit die dorings, en die rower sluk hulle goed in.

Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;
Alhoewel benoudheid nie uit die stof voortkom nie, en moeite nie uit die grond uitspruit nie;

Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.
Nogtans is die mens tot moeite gebore, soos die vonke opwaarts vlieg.

I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:
Ek sou God soek, en my saak aan God voorlê:

Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number:
Wat groot dinge en onnaspeurlike doen; wonderlike dinge sonder getal:
10
Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:
Wat reën op die aarde gee, en waters op die velde stuur:

To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.
Om hulle wat laag is, hoog te sit; dat dié wat rou, verhef mag word tot veiligheid.
12
He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform [their] enterprise.
Hy frustreer die planne van die listiges, sodat hulle hande nie kan uitvoer wat hulle onderneming is nie.
13
He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.
Hy vang die wyse in hulle eie slimheid: en die raad van die listiges word voorbarig omgekeer.
14
They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope in the noonday as in the night.
Hulle ontmoet met duisternis in die dag, en tas in die middag soos in die nag.

But he saveth the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.
Maar Hy red die arme van die swaard, van hulle mond, en van die hand van die magtige.
16
So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.
So het die arme hoop, en ongeregtigheid stop sy mond.
17
Behold, happy [is] the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:
Kyk, gelukkig is die man wat God straf: daarom verag nie die tugtiging van die Almagtige nie:
18
For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.
Want Hy maak seer, en bind op: Hy wond, en sy hande genees.
19
He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.
Hy sal jou in ses benoudhede red: ja, in sewe sal geen kwaad jou aanraak nie.
20
In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.
In hongersnood sal Hy jou van die dood verlos: en in oorlog van die mag van die swaard.
21
Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.
Jy sal verberg word van die gesel van die tong: en jy sal nie bang wees vir vernietiging wanneer dit kom nie.
22
At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.
By vernietiging en hongersnood sal jy lag: en jy sal nie bang wees vir die diere van die aarde nie.
23
For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.
Want jy sal in verbond wees met die klippe van die veld: en die diere van die veld sal in vrede met jou wees.
24
And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle [shall be] in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin.
En jy sal weet dat jou tent in vrede is; en jy sal jou woning besoek, en niks mis nie.
25
Thou shalt know also that thy seed [shall be] great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.
Jy sal ook weet dat jou saad groot sal wees, en jou nageslag soos die gras van die aarde.
26
Thou shalt come to [thy] grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.
Jy sal in ‚'n volle ouderdom na die graf kom, soos ‚'n gerf van koring in sy seisoen opgehaal word.
27
Lo this, we have searched it, so it [is]; hear it, and know thou [it] for thy good.
Kyk hieraan, ons het dit nagevors, so is dit; hoor dit, en weet dit vir jouself.
