Thinkest thou this to be right, [that] thou saidst, My righteousness [is] more than God’s?
Dink jy dit reg dat jy gesê het, My geregtigheid is meer as dié van God?

For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? [and], What profit shall I have, [if I be cleansed] from my sin?
Want jy het gesê, Wat baat dit jou? en, Wat wins het ek, as ek van my sonde gereinig is?
4
I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.
Ek sal jou antwoord gee, en jou metgeselle saam met jou.
5
Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds [which] are higher than thou.
Kyk na die hemele, en sien; en aanskou die wolke wat hoër is as jy.
6
If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or [if] thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?
As jy sondig, wat doen jy teen Hom? of as jou oortredings vermeerder is, wat doen jy aan Hom?
7
If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?
As jy regverdig is, wat gee jy Hom? of wat ontvang Hy uit jou hand?
8
Thy wickedness [may hurt] a man as thou [art]; and thy righteousness [may profit] the son of man.
Jou goddeloosheid mag ‚'n man soos jy aandoen; en jou geregtigheid mag die seun van die mens baat.
9
By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make [the oppressed] to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.
Deur die menigte van verdrukkinge roep hulle uit: hulle roep uit vanweë die arm van die magtiges.
10
But none saith, Where [is] God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;
Maar niemand sê, Waar is God my Maker, wat liedere in die nag gee;
11
Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?
Wat ons meer onderrig as die diere van die aarde, en ons wyser maak as die voëls van die hemel?
12
There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.
Daar roep hulle, maar niemand antwoord nie, vanweë die trotsheid van die bose manne.
13
Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.
Sekerlik sal God nie ydelheid hoor nie, en die Almagtige sal dit nie aanskou nie.
14
Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, [yet] judgment [is] before him; therefore trust thou in him.
Alhoewel jy sê jy sal Hom nie sien nie, tog is die oordeel voor Hom; daarom vertrou jy op Hom.
15
But now, because [it is] not [so], he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth [it] not in great extremity:
Maar nou, omdat dit nie so is nie, het Hy sy toorn in sy besoeking besoek; tog ken Hy dit nie in groot uiterste nie:
16
Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.
Daarom open Job sy mond tevergeefs; hy vermenigvuldig woorde sonder kennis.
