Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
Kan ‚'n man vir God nuttig wees, soos hy wat wys is vir homself nuttig mag wees?

[Is it] any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or [is it] gain [to him], that thou makest thy ways perfect?
Is dit enige behae vir die Almagtige, dat jy regverdig is? of is dit wins vir Hom, dat jy jou weë volkome maak?
4
Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
Sal Hy jou vanweë jou vrees vir Hom bestraf? sal Hy met jou in die oordeel ingaan?

[Is] not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
Is nie jou goddeloosheid groot nie? en jou ongeregtighede oneindig nie?

For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
Want jy het ‚'n pand van jou broer sonder oorsaak geneem, en die naaktes van hulle klere gestroop.
7
Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
Jy het nie water aan die moeges gegee om te drink nie, en jy het brood van die hongeriges weerhou.
8
But [as for] the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
Maar wat die magtige man betref, hy het die aarde gehad; en die eerbare man het daarin gewoon.
9
Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
Jy het die weduwees leeg weggestuur, en die arms van die wees is verbrysel.
10
Therefore snares [are] round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;
Daarom is strikke rondom jou, en skielike vrees verskrik jou;
11
Or darkness, [that] thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.
Of duisternis, dat jy nie kan sien nie; en ‚'n menigte waters bedek jou.
12
[Is] not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
Is nie God in die hoogte van die hemel nie? en kyk na die hoogte van die sterre, hoe hoog hulle is!
13
And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?
En jy sê, Hoe weet God? kan Hy deur die donker wolk oordeel?
14
Thick clouds [are] a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
Dik wolke is ‚'n bedekking vir Hom, dat Hy nie sien nie; en Hy wandel in die kring van die hemel.
15
Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
Het jy die ou pad gemerk wat goddelose manne betrap het?
16
Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
Wat afgesny is voor die tyd, wie se fondament met ‚'n vloed uitgespoel is:
17
Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
Wat tot God gesê het, Vertrek van ons: en wat kon die Almagtige vir hulle doen?
18
Yet he filled their houses with good [things]: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
Tog het Hy hulle huise met goed gevul: maar die raad van die goddelose is ver van my.
19
The righteous see [it], and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
Die regverdiges sien dit, en is bly: en die onskuldige spot met hulle.
20
Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.
Terwyl ons substansie nie afgesny is nie, maar die rest van hulle het die vuur verteer.
21
Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
Raak nou met Hom bekend, en wees in vrede: daardeur sal goeie oor jou kom.
22
Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
Ontvang tog die wet uit sy mond, en lê sy woorde in jou hart.
23
If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
As jy tot die Almagtige terugkeer, sal jy opgebou word, jy sal ongeregtigheid ver van jou tente sit.
24
Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the [gold] of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
Dan sal jy die goud as stof lê, en die goud van Ofir soos die klippe van die spruite.
25
Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.
Ja, die Almagtige sal jou verdediging wees, en jy sal baie silwer hê.
26
For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
Want dan sal jy jou verlustig in die Almagtige, en jou aangesig tot God ophef.
27
Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
Jy sal tot Hom bid, en Hy sal jou hoor, en jy sal jou geloftes betaal.
28
Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
Jy sal ook ’n saak besluit, en dit sal vir jou bevestig word: en die lig sal op jou weë skyn.
29
When [men] are cast down, then thou shalt say, [There is] lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
Wanneer manne neergewerp is, dan sal jy sê, Daar is verheffing; en Hy sal die nederige van persoon red.
30
He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
Hy sal die eiland van die onskuldige red: en dit word gered deur die reinheid van jou hande.
