And Job answered and said,

En Job het geantwoord, en gesê,

No doubt but ye [are] the people, and wisdom shall die with you.

Geen twyfel nie maar julle is die volk, en wysheid sal saam met julle sterwe.

But I have understanding as well as you; I [am] not inferior to you: yea, who knoweth not such things as these?

Maar ek het verstand soos julle; ek is nie minder as julle nie: ja, wie ken nie sulke dinge soos hierdie nie?

4

I am [as] one mocked of his neighbour, who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: the just upright [man is] laughed to scorn.

Ek is as een wat deur sy naaste bespot word, wat God aanroep, en Hy antwoord hom: die regverdige opreg man word bespot.

He that is ready to slip with [his] feet [is as] a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease.

Hy wat gereed is om met sy voete te gly, is soos ‚'n lamp verag in die denke van hom wat gerus is.

6

The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth [abundantly].

Die tente van rowers voorspoedig, en dié wat God terg is veilig; in wie se hand God baie bring.

7

But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:

Maar vra nou die diere, en hulle sal jou leer; en die voëls van die lug, en hulle sal jou sê:

8

Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.

Of spreek tot die aarde, en dit sal jou leer: en die visse van die see sal jou vertel.

Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?

Wie ken nie in al hierdie dat die hand van die HERE dit gedoen het nie?

10

In whose hand [is] the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

In wie se hand die siel van elke lewende ding is, en die asem van alle mensdom.

11

Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat?

Oorproef die oor nie woorde nie? en die mond proe sy voedsel.

12

With the ancient [is] wisdom; and in length of days understanding.

By die oues is wysheid; en in lengte van dae is verstand.

13

With him [is] wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.

By Hom is wysheid en krag, Hy het raad en verstand.

14

Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.

Kyk, Hy breek af, en dit kan nie opgebou word nie: Hy sluit ‚'n man toe, en daar kan nie oopgemaak word nie.

15

Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.

Kyk, Hy hou die waters terug, en hulle droog op: ook stuur Hy hulle uit, en hulle keer die aarde om.

16

With him [is] strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver [are] his.

By Hom is krag en wysheid: die bedroë en die bedrieër is syne.

17

He leadeth counsellers away spoiled, and maketh the judges fools.

Hy lei raadgewers weg as ‚'n prooi, en maak die regters tot dwase.

18

He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle.

Hy maak die band van konings los, en omgord hulle lendene met ‚'n gordel.

19

He leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty.

Hy lei vorstes weg as ‚'n prooi, en omverwerp die magtiges.

20

He removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged.

Hy neem weg die spraak van die vertroudes, en neem weg die verstand van die oues.

21

He poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty.

Hy stort veragting uit op vorstes, en verswak die krag van die magtiges.

22

He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.

Hy open die diep dinge uit die duisternis, en bring die skaduwee van die dood tot lig.

23

He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them [again].

Hy vermeerder die nasies, en vernietig hulle: Hy versprei die nasies, en lei hulle weer.

24

He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness [where there is] no way.

Hy neem weg die hart van die hoofde van die volk van die aarde, en laat hulle in ‚'n wildernis ronddwaal waar daar geen pad is nie.

25

They grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like [a] drunken [man].

Hulle tas in die donker sonder lig, en Hy laat hulle soos ‚'n dronkaard ronddwaal.
