Concerning the Ammonites, thus saith the LORD; Hath Israel no sons? hath he no heir? why [then] doth their king inherit Gad, and his people dwell in his cities?
Teen die Ammoniete so sê die HERE; Het Israel geen seuns nie? het hy geen erfgenaam nie? waarom dan erf hulle koning Gad, en sy volk woon in sy stede?

Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites; and it shall be a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel be heir unto them that were his heirs, saith the LORD.
Daarom, kyk, die dae kom, sê die HERE, dat ek ’n alarm van oorlog in Rabba van die Ammoniete sal laat hoor; en dit sal ’n verwoeste hoop word, en haar dogters sal met vuur verbrand word: dan sal Israel erfgename wees van hulle wat sy erfgename was, sê die HERE.

Howl, O Heshbon, for Ai is spoiled: cry, ye daughters of Rabbah, gird you with sackcloth; lament, and run to and fro by the hedges; for their king shall go into captivity, [and] his priests and his princes together.
Huil, o Hesbon, want Ai is verwoes: roep, julle dogters van Rabba, omgord julle met sakdoek; weeklaag, en hardloop heen en weer by die heinings; want hulle koning sal in gevangenisskap gaan, en sy priesters en sy vorstes saam.

Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, [saying], Who shall come unto me?
Waarom roem jy in die valleie, jou vloeiende vallei, o afvallige dogter? wat op haar skatte vertrou, sê, Wie sal tot my kom?

Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts, from all those that be about thee; and ye shall be driven out every man right forth; and none shall gather up him that wandereth.
Kyk, ek sal vrees oor jou bring, sê die Here GOD van leërskare, van almal wat rondom jou is; en julle sal elkeen voor hom uitgedryf word; en niemand sal die swerweling bymekaarmaak nie.

And afterward I will bring again the captivity of the children of Ammon, saith the LORD.
En daarna sal ek die gevangenisskap van die kinders van Ammon terugbring, sê die HERE.
7
Concerning Edom, thus saith the LORD of hosts; [Is] wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?
Teen Edom so sê die HERE van leërskare; Is daar nie meer wysheid in Teman nie? is raad van die verstandiges vergaan? is hulle wysheid verdwyn?

Flee ye, turn back, dwell deep, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time [that] I will visit him.
Vlug julle, draai terug, woon diep, o inwoners van Dedan; want ek sal die ramp van Esau oor hom bring, die tyd dat ek hom besoek.

If grapegatherers come to thee, would they not leave [some] gleaning grapes? if thieves by night, they will destroy till they have enough.
As wynoesers tot jou kom, sou hulle nie ‚'n paar druiwe oorbly nie? as diewe in die nag, hulle sal vernietig totdat hulle genoeg het.
10
But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is spoiled, and his brethren, and his neighbours, and he [is] not.
Maar ek het Esau ontbloot, ek het sy geheime plekke ontbloot, en hy sal homself nie kan verberg nie: sy saad is verwoes, en sy broers, en sy bure, en hy is nie.

Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve [them] alive; and let thy widows trust in me.
Laat jou vaderslose kinders agter, ek sal hulle lewendig hou; en laat jou weduwees op My vertrou.
12
For thus saith the LORD; Behold, they whose judgment [was] not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunken; and [art] thou he [that] shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink [of it].
Want so sê die HERE; Kyk, dié wie se oordeel dit nie was om die beker te drink, het sekerlik gedrink; en is jy hy wat heeltemal ongestraf sal bly? jy sal nie ongestraf bly nie, maar jy sal sekerlik drink.

For I have sworn by myself, saith the LORD, that Bozrah shall become a desolation, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes.
Want ek het by Myself gesweer, sê die HERE, dat Bosra ’n verwoesting, ’n smaad, ’n verwoesting, en ’n vloek sal word; en al haar stede sal voortdurende verwoestings wees.

I have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, [saying], Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.
Ek het ’n gerug van die HERE gehoor, en ’n ambassadeur is na die heidene gestuur, sê, Versamel julle, en kom teen haar, en staan op tot die geveg.
15
For, lo, I will make thee small among the heathen, [and] despised among men.
Want kyk, ek sal jou klein maak onder die heidene, en verag onder die mense.
16
Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, [and] the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.
Jou verskrikking het jou bedrieg, en die trotsheid van jou hart, o jy wat in die klowings van die rots woon, wat die hoogte van die heuwel vashou: al sou jy jou nes so hoog soos die arend maak, ek sal jou daarvandaan afbring, sê die HERE.
17
Also Edom shall be a desolation: every one that goeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof.
Ook sal Edom ‚'n verwoesting word: elkeen wat daardeur gaan, sal verbaas wees, en fluit by al haar plae.
18
As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour [cities] thereof, saith the LORD, no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it.
Soos in die omkering van Sodom en Gomorra en die naburige stede daarvan, sê die HERE, sal daar geen man daarin woon nie, en ook sal geen seun van die mens daarin vertoef nie.
19
Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly make him run away from her: and who [is] a chosen [man, that] I may appoint over her? for who [is] like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who [is] that shepherd that will stand before me?
Kyk, hy sal soos ‚'n leeu uit die oopswelling van die Jordaan opkom teen die woning van die sterk: maar ek sal hom skielik van haar af laat vlug: en wie is ‚'n uitverkore man, dat ek hom teen haar mag aanstel? want wie is soos ek? en wie sal My ‚'n tyd aanwys? en wie is daardie herder wat voor My sal staan?

Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitations desolate with them.
Daarom hoor die raad van die HERE, wat Hy teen Edom geneem het; en sy voornemens, wat Hy teen die inwoners van Teman geneem het: Sekerlik sal die geringstes van die kudde hulle uittrek: sekerlik sal hy hulle wonings met hulle verwoes.

The earth is moved at the noise of their fall, at the cry the noise thereof was heard in the Red sea.
Die aarde is beweeg by die geraas van hulle val, by die geroep is die geraas daarvan in die Rooi See gehoor.
22
Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread his wings over Bozrah: and at that day shall the heart of the mighty men of Edom be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
Kyk, hy sal soos ‚'n arend opkom, en vlieg, en sy vlerke teen Bosra uitsprei: en die hart van die magtiges van Edom in daardie dag sal wees soos die hart van ‚'n vrou in barensnood.

Concerning Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad: for they have heard evil tidings: they are fainthearted; [there is] sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.
Teen Damaskus. Hamat is beskaamd, en Arpad: want hulle het slegte tyding gehoor: hulle is flou; daar is smart op die see; dit kan nie stil wees nie.

Damascus is waxed feeble, [and] turneth herself to flee, and fear hath seized on [her]: anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in travail.
Damaskus is flou geword, en het omgedraai om te vlug, en vrees het haar aangegryp: angs en smarte het haar aangegryp, soos ‚'n vrou in barensnood.

How is the city of praise not left, the city of my joy!
Hoe is die stad van lof nie verlaat nie, die stad van my vreugde!
26
Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the LORD of hosts.
Daarom sal haar jongmanne in haar strate val, en al die manne van oorlog sal in daardie dag afgesny word, sê die HERE van leërskare.
27
And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall consume the palaces of Benhadad.
En ek sal ‚'n vuur in die muur van Damaskus aansteek, en dit sal die paleise van Ben-Hadad verteer.
28
Concerning Kedar, and concerning the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon shall smite, thus saith the LORD; Arise ye, go up to Kedar, and spoil the men of the east.
Teen Kedar, en teen die koninkryke van Hasor, wat Nebukadrésar koning van Babel sal slaan, so sê die HERE; Staan op julle, gaan op na Kedar, en verwoes die manne van die ooste.
29
Their tents and their flocks shall they take away: they shall take to themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels; and they shall cry unto them, Fear [is] on every side.
Hulle tente en hulle kuddes sal hulle neem: hulle sal vir hulleself hulle gordyne, en al hulle vate, en hulle kamele neem; en hulle sal tot hulle roep, Vrees is aan alle kante.
30
Flee, get you far off, dwell deep, O ye inhabitants of Hazor, saith the LORD; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath taken counsel against you, and hath conceived a purpose against you.
Vlug, gaan ver weg, woon diep, o julle inwoners van Hasor, sê die HERE; want Nebukadrésar koning van Babel het ’n raad teen julle geneem, en het ’n voorneme teen julle bedink.
31
Arise, get you up unto the wealthy nation, that dwelleth without care, saith the LORD, which have neither gates nor bars, [which] dwell alone.
Staan op, gaan op na die ryk nasie, wat sonder sorg woon, sê die HERE, wat nie deure of grendels het nie, wat alleen woon.
32
And their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their cattle a spoil: and I will scatter into all winds them [that are] in the utmost corners; and I will bring their calamity from all sides thereof, saith the LORD.
En hulle kamele sal ’n buit wees, en die menigte van hulle vee ’n roof: en ek sal dié wat in die uiterste hoeke is, in alle winde verstrooi; en ek sal hulle ramp van al sy kante af bring, sê die HERE.
33
And Hazor shall be a dwelling for dragons, [and] a desolation for ever: there shall no man abide there, nor [any] son of man dwell in it.
En Hasor sal ‚'n woning van drake word, en ‚'n verwoesting vir ewig: daar sal geen man daarin woon nie, en ook sal geen seun van die mens daarin vertoef nie.
34
The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying,
Die woord van die HERE wat tot die profeet Jeremia teen Elam gekom het in die begin van die regering van Sedekía koning van Juda, sê,
35
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might.
So sê die HERE van leërskare; Kyk, ek sal die boog van Elam, die hoof van hulle mag, verbreek.
36
And upon Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam shall not come.
En op Elam sal ek die vier winde van die vier kwarte van die hemel bring, en sal hulle na al daardie winde verstrooi; en daar sal geen nasie wees waarheen die uitgeworpenes van Elam nie sal kom nie.
37
For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before them that seek their life: and I will bring evil upon them, [even] my fierce anger, saith the LORD; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them:
Want ek sal Elam ontsteld maak voor hulle vyande, en voor dié wat hulle lewe soek: en ek sal die kwaad oor hulle bring, selfs my felle toorn, sê die HERE; en ek sal die swaard agter hulle stuur, totdat ek hulle verteer het:
38
And I will set my throne in Elam, and will destroy from thence the king and the princes, saith the LORD.
En ek sal my troon in Elam sit, en sal van daar koning en vorste vernietig, sê die HERE.
39
But it shall come to pass in the latter days, [that] I will bring again the captivity of Elam, saith the LORD.
Maar dit sal in die laaste dae gebeur, dat ek die gevangenisskap van Elam sal terugbring, sê die HERE.
