Now it came to pass in the seventh month, [that] Ishmael the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and the princes of the king, even ten men with him, came unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and there they did eat bread together in Mizpah.
Nou dit het gebeur in die sewende maand, dat Ismael die seun van Netanja die seun van Elisama, van die koninklike saad, en die vorstes van die koning, selfs tien manne met hom, na Gedalja die seun van Ahíkam na Mispa gekom het; en daar het hulle brood saam in Mispa geëet.

Then arose Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and slew him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.
Toe het Ismael die seun van Netanja, en die tien manne wat met hom was, opgestaan, en Gedalja die seun van Ahíkam die seun van Safan met die swaard geslaan, en hom doodgeslaan, wat die koning van Babel oor die land aangestel het.

Ishmael also slew all the Jews that were with him, [even] with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, [and] the men of war.
Ismael het ook al die Jode doodgeslaan wat by hom was, by Gedalja in Mispa, en die Chaldeërs wat daar gevind is, die manne van oorlog.

And it came to pass the second day after he had slain Gedaliah, and no man knew [it],
En dit het gebeur die tweede dag nadat hy Gedalja doodgeslaan het, en geen man dit geweet het nie,

That there came certain from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, [even] fourscore men, having their beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring [them] to the house of the LORD.
Dat daar manne uit Sigem, uit Silo, en uit Samaría gekom het, selfs tagtig manne, met hulle baarde afgeskeer, en hulle klere geskeur, en hulleself gesny, met offers en wierook in hulle hand, om na die huis van die HERE te bring.

And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went: and it came to pass, as he met them, he said unto them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.
En Ismael die seun van Netanja het uit Mispa uitgegaan om hulle tegemoet te gaan, en hy het gehuil soos hy gegaan het: en dit het gebeur, toe hy hulle ontmoet het, dat hy tot hulle gesê het, Kom tot Gedalja die seun van Ahíkam.

And it was [so], when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah slew them, [and cast them] into the midst of the pit, he, and the men that [were] with him.
En dit het gebeur, toe hulle in die midde van die stad gekom het, dat Ismael die seun van Netanja hulle doodgeslaan het, en in die midde van die put gewerp het, hy, en die manne wat met hom was.

But ten men were found among them that said unto Ishmael, Slay us not: for we have treasures in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he forbare, and slew them not among their brethren.
Maar tien manne is onder hulle gevind wat tot Ismael gesê het, Moet ons nie doodmaak nie: want ons het skatte in die veld, van koring, en van gars, en van olie, en van heuning. So het hy opgehou, en hulle nie saam met hulle broers doodgeslaan nie.

Now the pit wherein Ishmael had cast all the dead bodies of the men, whom he had slain because of Gedaliah, [was] it which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel: [and] Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with [them that were] slain.
Nou die put waarin Ismael al die dooie liggame van die manne, wat hy by Gedalja geslaan het, gewerp het, was dit wat koning Asa gemaak het uit vrees vir Baësa koning van Israel: en Ismael die seun van Netanja het dit met die dooie gevul.

Then Ishmael carried away captive all the residue of the people that [were] in Mizpah, [even] the king’s daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam: and Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the Ammonites.
Toe het Ismael al die oorblyfsel van die volk wat in Mispa was, weggevoer, selfs die koning se dogters, en al die volk wat in Mispa oorgelaat is, wat Nebusaradan die kaptein van die wag aan Gedalja die seun van Ahíkam toevertrou het: en Ismael die seun van Netanja het hulle weggevoer, en is weggegaan om oor te trek na die Ammoniete.

But when Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that [were] with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done,
Maar toe Johanan die seun van Kareah, en al die kapteins van die leërs wat by hom was, al die kwaad gehoor het wat Ismael die seun van Netanja gedoen het,

Then they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that [are] in Gibeon.
Toe het hulle al die manne geneem, en is gegaan om teen Ismael die seun van Netanja te veg, en het hom by die groot waters gevind wat in Gíbeon is.

Now it came to pass, [that] when all the people which [were] with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that [were] with him, then they were glad.
Nou dit het gebeur, toe al die volk wat by Ismael was, Johanan die seun van Kareah, en al die kapteins van die leërs wat by hom was, gesien het, toe was hulle bly.

So all the people that Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah cast about and returned, and went unto Johanan the son of Kareah.
So het al die volk wat Ismael weggevoer het van Mispa, omgedraai en teruggekeer, en is gegaan na Johanan die seun van Kareah.

But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the Ammonites.
Maar Ismael die seun van Netanja het van Johanan met agt manne ontvlug, en is weggegaan na die Ammoniete.

Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that [were] with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after [that] he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, [even] mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from Gibeon:
Toe het Johanan die seun van Kareah, en al die kapteins van die leërs wat by hom was, al die oorblyfsel van die volk geneem wat hy van Ismael die seun van Netanja teruggebring het, van Mispa, nadat hy Gedalja die seun van Ahíkam geslaan het, selfs magtige manne van oorlog, en die vroue, en die kinders, en die hofdienaars, wat hy van Gíbeon teruggebring het:

And they departed, and dwelt in the habitation of Chimham, which is by Bethlehem, to go to enter into Egypt,
En hulle is gegaan, en het in die herberg van Kimham gebly, wat by Betlehem is, om te gaan om in Egipte in te trek

Because of the Chaldeans: for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon made governor in the land.
Vanweë die Chaldeërs: want hulle was bang vir hulle, omdat Ismael die seun van Netanja Gedalja die seun van Ahíkam geslaan het, wat die koning van Babel in die land aangestel het.
