The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all that were carried away captive of Jerusalem and Judah, which were carried away captive unto Babylon.
Die woord wat tot Jeremia van die HERE gekom het, nadat Nebusaradan die kaptein van die wag hom losgelaat het van Rama, toe hy hom geneem het terwyl hy geboei was in kettings onder al die wat van Jérusalem en Juda weggevoer is, wat na Babel weggevoer is.

And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said unto him, The LORD thy God hath pronounced this evil upon this place.
En die kaptein van die wag het Jeremia geneem, en tot hom gesê, Die HERE jou God het hierdie kwaad op hierdie plek uitgespreek.

Now the LORD hath brought [it], and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.
Nou het die HERE dit gebring, en dit gedoen soos Hy gesê het: omdat julle teen die HERE gesondig het, en nie aan sy stem gehoorsaam was nie, daarom is hierdie ding oor julle gekom.

And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which [were] upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land [is] before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.
En nou, kyk, ek maak jou vandag los van die kettings wat op jou hand is. As dit goed is in jou oë om met my na Babel te gaan, kom, en ek sal na jou omsien: maar as dit sleg is in jou oë om met my na Babel te gaan, bly hier: kyk, die hele land is voor jou: waar dit goed en gerieflik is vir jou om te gaan, gaan daarheen.

Now while he was not yet gone back, [he said], Go back also to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him victuals and a reward, and let him go.
Nou terwyl hy nog nie teruggekeer het nie, het hy gesê, Gaan terug ook na Gedalja die seun van Ahíkam die seun van Safan, wat die koning van Babel oor die stede van Juda aangestel het, en woon by hom onder die volk: of gaan waar dit ook al gerieflik is vir jou om te gaan. So het die kaptein van die wag hom voorraad en ’n geskenk gegee, en hom laat gaan.

Then went Jeremiah unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and dwelt with him among the people that were left in the land.
Toe het Jeremia na Gedalja die seun van Ahíkam na Mispa gegaan; en by hom onder die volk gebly wat in die land oorgelaat is.

Now when all the captains of the forces which [were] in the fields, [even] they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed unto him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away captive to Babylon;
Nou toe al die kapteins van die leërs wat in die velde was, hulle en hulle manne, gehoor het dat die koning van Babel Gedalja die seun van Ahíkam oor die land aangestel het, en dat hy aan hom manne, en vroue, en kinders, en van die armes van die land, van hulle wat nie na Babel weggevoer is nie, toevertrou het;

Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.
Toe het hulle na Gedalja na Mispa gekom, selfs Ismael die seun van Netanja, en Johanan en Jonatan die seuns van Kareah, en Seraja die seun van Tanhúmet, en die seuns van Efai die Netofatiet, en Jesanja die seun van ’n Maägatiet, hulle en hulle manne.

And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan sware unto them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.
En Gedalja die seun van Ahíkam die seun van Safan het aan hulle en aan hulle manne gesweer, sê, Vrees nie om die Chaldeërs te dien nie: bly in die land, en dien die koning van Babel, en dit sal met julle goed gaan.

As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us: but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put [them] in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.
Wat my betref, kyk, ek sal in Mispa woon, om voor die Chaldeërs te staan, wat tot ons sal kom: maar julle, versamel julle wyn, en somervrugte, en olie, en sit dit in julle vate, en woon in julle stede wat julle ingeneem het.

Likewise when all the Jews that [were] in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that [were] in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan;
Net so, toe al die Jode wat in Moab was, en onder die Ammoniete, en in Edom, en wat in al die lande was, gehoor het dat die koning van Babel ’n oorblyfsel van Juda oorgelaat het, en dat hy Gedalja die seun van Ahíkam die seun van Safan oor hulle aangestel het;

Even all the Jews returned out of all places whither they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, unto Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.
Selfs al die Jode het uit al die plekke teruggekeer waarheen hulle verdryf was, en het na die land van Juda na Gedalja, na Mispa gekom, en het wyn en somervrugte in oorvloed bymekaargemaak.

Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that [were] in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,
Bowendien het Johanan die seun van Kareah, en al die kapteins van die leërs wat in die velde was, na Gedalja na Mispa gekom,

And said unto him, Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not.
En tot hom gesê, Weet jy sekerlik dat Baälis die koning van die Ammoniete Ismael die seun van Netanja gestuur het om jou lewe te neem? Maar Gedalja die seun van Ahíkam het hulle nie geglo nie.

Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know [it]: wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?
Toe het Johanan die seun van Kareah in die geheim tot Gedalja in Mispa gespreek, sê, Laat my gaan, ek bid jou, en ek sal Ismael die seun van Netanja doodslaan, en geen man sal dit weet nie: waarom sou hy jou lewe neem, dat al die Jode wat by jou bymekaargekom het, verstrooi word, en die oorblyfsel in Juda vergaan?

But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah, Thou shalt not do this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.
Maar Gedalja die seun van Ahíkam het tot Johanan die seun van Kareah gesê, Jy moet hierdie ding nie doen nie: want jy spreek vals van Ismael.
