Now these [are] the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;
Dit is die woorde van die brief wat die profeet Jeremia van Jérusalem gestuur het na die oorblyfsel van die oudstes wat weggevoer is, en na die priesters, en na die profete, en na die hele volk wat Nebukadrésar uit Jérusalem na Babel weggevoer het;

(After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)
(Nadat Jekonja die koning, en die koningin, en die hofdienaars, die vorstes van Juda en Jérusalem, en die ambagsmanne, en die smede, uit Jérusalem uitgegaan het;)

By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,
Deur die hand van Elása die seun van Safan, en Gemarja die seun van Hilkía, (wat Sedekía koning van Juda na Babel gestuur het tot Nebukadrésar koning van Babel) sê,

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon;
So sê die HERE van leërskare, die God van Israel, tot al die wat weggevoer is, wat ek uit Jérusalem na Babel laat wegvoer het;
5
Build ye houses, and dwell [in them]; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;
Bou julle huise, en woon daarin; en plant tuine, en eet die vrug daarvan;
6
Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.
Neem julle vroue, en verwek seuns en dogters; en neem vroue vir julle seuns, en gee julle dogters aan manne, dat hulle mag baar seuns en dogters; dat julle daar mag vermeerder, en nie verminder nie.

And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.
En soek die vrede van die stad waarheen ek julle laat wegvoer het, en bid tot die HERE daarvoor: want in die vrede daarvan sal julle vrede hê.
8
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that [be] in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.
Want so sê die HERE van leërskare, die God van Israel; Laat julle profete en julle waarsêers, wat in julle midde is, julle nie bedrieg nie, en luister ook nie na julle drome wat julle droom nie.

For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.
Want hulle profeteer vals tot julle in my Naam: ek het hulle nie gestuur nie, sê die HERE.
10
For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.
Want so sê die HERE, Nadat sewentig jaar by Babel voleindig is, sal ek julle besoek, en my goeie woord teenoor julle uitvoer, om julle terug te bring na hierdie plek.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Want ek ken die gedagtes wat ek teenoor julle bedink, sê die HERE, gedagtes van vrede, en nie van kwaad nie, om julle ’n verwagte einde te gee.
12
Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
Dan sal julle My aanroep, en julle sal gaan en tot My bid, en ek sal na julle luister.
13
And ye shall seek me, and find [me], when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
En julle sal My soek, en vind, wanneer julle My met julle hele hart soek.
14
And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.
En ek sal deur julle gevind word, sê die HERE: en ek sal julle uit julle gevangenisskap terugbring, en ek sal julle bymekaarmaak uit al die nasies, en uit al die plekke waarheen ek julle verdryf het, sê die HERE; en ek sal julle terugbring na die plek waarvandaan ek julle laat wegvoer het.

Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;
Omdat julle gesê het, Die HERE het vir ons profete in Babel opgewek;
16
[Know] that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, [and] of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;
Weet dat so sê die HERE van die koning wat op die troon van Dawid sit, en van die hele volk wat in hierdie stad woon, en van julle broers wat nie met julle in gevangenisskap uitgegaan het nie;

Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.
So sê die HERE van leërskare; Kyk, ek sal die swaard, die hongersnood, en die pes onder hulle stuur, en sal hulle maak soos die slegte vyé, wat nie geëet kan word nie, hulle is so sleg.

And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:
En ek sal hulle met die swaard, met die hongersnood, en met die pes agtervolg, en sal hulle oorgee om verwyder te word in al die koninkryke van die aarde, om ‚'n vloek, en ‚'n verwoesting, en ‚'n gesuis, en ‚'n smaad te wees, onder al die nasies waarheen ek hulle verdryf het:

Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending [them]; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.
Omdat hulle nie na my woorde geluister het nie, sê die HERE, wat ek tot hulle gestuur het deur my dienaars die profete, vroeg opstaande en stuurende hulle; maar julle wou nie hoor nie, sê die HERE.

Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:
Hoor julle daarom die woord van die HERE, al julle van die wegvoering, wat ek uit Jérusalem na Babel gestuur het:
21
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;
So sê die HERE van leërskare, die God van Israel, van Ahab die seun van Kolaja, en van Sedekía die seun van Maäseja, wat leuens tot julle in my Naam profeteer; Kyk, ek sal hulle in die hand van Nebukadrésar koning van Babel oorgee; en hy sal hulle voor julle oë doodslaan;

And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which [are] in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;
En van hulle sal ’n vloek geneem word deur al die weggevoerde van Juda wat in Babel is, sê, Die HERE maak jou soos Sedekía en soos Ahab, wat die koning van Babel in die vuur gebraai het;

Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours’ wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and [am] a witness, saith the LORD.
Omdat hulle dwaasheid in Israel gepleeg het, en egbreuk met hulle naaste se vroue gepleeg het, en leuens in my Naam gespreek het, wat ek hulle nie beveel het nie; selfs ek weet, en is ’n getuie, sê die HERE.

[Thus] shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,
So moet jy ook tot Semaja die Nehelamiet spreek, sê,
25
Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that [are] at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,
So spreek die HERE van leërskare, die God van Israel, sê, Omdat jy briewe in jou naam gestuur het tot al die volk wat in Jérusalem is, en tot Sefanja die seun van Maäseja die priester, en tot al die priesters, sê,

The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man [that is] mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.
Die HERE het jou priester gemaak in die plek van Jójada die priester, dat julle amptenare mag wees in die huis van die HERE, vir elke man wat mal is, en homself as ’n profeet voordoen, dat jy hom in die stokke, en in die gevangenis mag sit.

Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?
Nou daarom waarom het jy Jeremia van Anatot nie bestraf, wat homself as ‚'n profeet tot julle voordoen nie?

For therefore he sent unto us [in] Babylon, saying, This [captivity is] long: build ye houses, and dwell [in them]; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.
Want daarom het hy tot ons in Babel gestuur, sê, Hierdie gevangenisskap is lank: bou julle huise, en woon daarin; en plant tuine, en eet die vrug daarvan.

And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.
En Sefanja die priester het hierdie brief in die ore van Jeremia die profeet gelees.
30
Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,
Toe het die woord van die HERE tot Jeremia gekom, sê,
31
Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:
Stuur tot al die van die wegvoering, sê, So sê die HERE aangaande Semaja die Nehelamiet; Omdat Semaja tot julle geprofeteer het, en ek het hom nie gestuur nie, en hy het julle op ’n leuen laat vertrou:

Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.
Daarom so sê die HERE; Kyk, ek sal Semaja die Nehelamiet, en sy saad, besoek: hy sal nie ’n man hê om onder hierdie volk te woon nie; en hy sal ook die goeie nie sien nie wat ek vir my volk sal doen, sê die HERE; omdat hy opstand teen die HERE geleer het.
