Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.

Wee die herders wat die skape van my weiding vernietig en verstrooi! sê die HERE.

Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the LORD.

Daarom so sê die HERE God van Israel teen die herders wat my volk wei; Julle het my kudde verstrooi, en hulle verdrywe, en hulle nie besoek nie: kyk, ek sal die boosheid van julle doenings aan julle besoek, sê die HERE.

And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.

En ek sal die oorblyfsel van my kudde bymekaarmaak uit al die lande waarheen ek hulle verdryf het, en sal hulle terugbring na hulle kraale; en hulle sal vrugbaar wees en vermeerder.

And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the LORD.

En ek sal herders oor hulle opwek wat hulle sal wei: en hulle sal nie meer vrees, en nie ontsteld wees nie, en hulle sal nie ontbreek nie, sê die HERE.

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

Kyk, die dae kom, sê die HERE, dat ek tot Dawid ’n regverdige Tak sal opwek, en ’n Koning sal regeer en voorspoedig wees, en oordeel en geregtigheid op die aarde doen.

In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this [is] his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

In sy dae sal Juda gered word, en Israel sal veilig woon: en dit is sy Naam waarmee hy genoem sal word, DIE HERE ONS GEREGTIGHEID.

Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

Daarom, kyk, die dae kom, sê die HERE, dat hulle nie meer sal sê, Die HERE lewe, wat die kinders van Israel uit die land van Egipte opgebring het nie;

But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.

Maar, Die HERE lewe, wat die saad van die huis van Israel opgebring en gelei het uit die noordelike land, en uit al die lande waarheen ek hulle verdryf het; en hulle sal in hulle eie land woon.

Mine heart within me is broken because of the prophets; all my bones shake; I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome, because of the LORD, and because of the words of his holiness.

My hart is in my gebreek vanweë die profete; al my bene bewe; ek is soos ’n dronkaard, en soos ’n man wat deur wyn oorweldig is, vanweë die HERE, en vanweë die woorde van sy heiligheid.

For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force [is] not right.

Want die land is vol van egbrekers; want vanweë die eed lê die land treurig; die aangename plekke van die wildernis is verdroog, en hulle loop is boos, en hulle mag is nie reg nie.

For both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the LORD.

Want beide profeet en priester is huigelaars; ja, in my huis het ek hulle goddeloosheid gevind, sê die HERE.

12

Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery [ways] in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein: for I will bring evil upon them, [even] the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.

Daarom sal hulle weg vir hulle wees soos gladde plekke in die duisternis: hulle sal voortgedryf word, en val daarin: want ek sal kwaad oor hulle bring, selfs die jaar van hulle besoeking, sê die HERE.

13

And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err.

En ek het dwaasheid in die profete van Samaría gesien; hulle het deur Baäl geprofeteer, en my volk Israel laat dwaal.

14

I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.

Ek het ook in die profete van Jérusalem ’n afskuwelike ding gesien: hulle pleeg egbreuk, en wandel in leuens: hulle versterk ook die hande van die kwaaddoeners, dat niemand van sy goddeloosheid terugkeer nie: hulle is almal vir My soos Sodom, en die inwoners daarvan soos Gomorra.

Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land.

Daarom so sê die HERE van leërskare aangaande die profete; Kyk, ek sal hulle met als voed, en hulle water van gal laat drink: want van die profete van Jérusalem is huigelary uitgegaan in die hele land.

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, [and] not out of the mouth of the LORD.

So sê die HERE van leërskare, Luister nie na die woorde van die profete wat tot julle profeteer nie: hulle maak julle ydel: hulle spreek ’n visioen van hulle eie hart, en nie uit die mond van die HERE nie.

They say still unto them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.

Hulle sê nog voortdurend tot dié wat My verag, Die HERE het gesê, Julle sal vrede hê; en hulle sê tot elkeen wat in die verbeelding van sy eie hart wandel, Geen kwaad sal oor julle kom nie.

18

For who hath stood in the counsel of the LORD, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard [it]?

Want wie het in die raad van die HERE gestaan, en sy woord gesien en gehoor? wie het na sy woord geluister, en dit gehoor?

19

Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.

Kyk, ‚'n storm van die HERE is uitgegaan in grimmigheid, selfs ‚'n smartlike storm: dit sal op die hoof van die goddelose neerval.

20

The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly.

Die toorn van die HERE sal nie terugkeer nie, totdat Hy dit uitgevoer het, en totdat Hy die gedagtes van sy hart uitgevoer het: in die laaste dae sal julle dit deeglik oorweeg.

21

I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.

Ek het hierdie profete nie gestuur nie, tog het hulle gehardloop: ek het nie tot hulle gespreek nie, tog het hulle geprofeteer.

22

But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.

Maar as hulle in my raad gestaan het, en my volk my woorde laat hoor het, dan sou hulle hulle van hulle boos weg, en van die boosheid van hulle doenings, laat terugkeer het.

[Am] I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off?

Is ek ’n God van naby, sê die HERE, en nie ’n God van ver af nie?

24

Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

Kan iemand homself in geheime plekke verberg dat ek hom nie sal sien nie? sê die HERE. Vul ek nie die hemel en die aarde nie? sê die HERE.

25

I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.

Ek het gehoor wat die profete gesê het, wat leuens in my Naam profeteer, sê, Ek het ’n droom, ek het ’n droom.

26

How long shall [this] be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, [they are] prophets of the deceit of their own heart;

Hoe lank sal dit in die hart van die profete wees wat leuens profeteer? ja, hulle is profete van die bedrog van hulle eie hart;

27

Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.

Wat dink om my volk my Naam te laat vergeet deur hulle drome wat hulle elkeen aan sy naaste vertel, soos hulle vaders my Naam vergeet het vir Baäl.

28

The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What [is] the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD.

Die profeet wat ’n droom het, laat hom ’n droom vertel; en hy wat my woord het, laat hom my woord getrou spreek. Wat is die kaf tot die koring? sê die HERE.

29

[Is] not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer [that] breaketh the rock in pieces?

Is my woord nie soos ’n vuur nie? sê die HERE; en soos ’n hamer wat die rots stukkend slaan?

30

Therefore, behold, I [am] against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words every one from his neighbour.

Daarom, kyk, ek is teen die profete, sê die HERE, wat my woorde elkeen van sy naaste steel.

31

Behold, I [am] against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith.

Kyk, ek is teen die profete, sê die HERE, wat hulle tonge gebruik, en sê, Hy sê.

32

Behold, I [am] against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.

Kyk, ek is teen dié wat valse drome profeteer, sê die HERE, en vertel dit, en laat my volk dwaal deur hulle leuens, en deur hulle ligtvaardigheid; tog het ek hulle nie gestuur nie, en hulle nie beveel nie: daarom sal hulle hierdie volk glad nie baat nie, sê die HERE.

33

And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee, saying, What [is] the burden of the LORD? thou shalt then say unto them, What burden? I will even forsake you, saith the LORD.

En wanneer hierdie volk, of die profeet, of ’n priester, jou sal vra, sê, Wat is die las van die HERE? sal jy dan tot hulle sê, Watter las? Ek sal julle selfs verlaat, sê die HERE.

34

And [as for] the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The burden of the LORD, I will even punish that man and his house.

En wat die profeet, en die priester, en die volk betref, wat sal sê, Die las van die HERE, ek sal daardie man en sy huis selfs besoek.

35

Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbour, and every one to his brother, What hath the LORD answered? and, What hath the LORD spoken?

So moet julle elkeen tot sy naaste, en elkeen tot sy broer sê, Wat het die HERE geantwoord? en, Wat het die HERE gespreek?

36

And the burden of the LORD shall ye mention no more: for every man’s word shall be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.

En die las van die HERE moet julle nie meer noem nie: want elke man se woord sal sy las wees; want julle het die woorde van die lewende God, die HERE van leërskare, onse God, verdraai.

37

Thus shalt thou say to the prophet, What hath the LORD answered thee? and, What hath the LORD spoken?

So moet jy tot die profeet sê, Wat het die HERE jou geantwoord? en, Wat het die HERE gespreek?

38

But since ye say, The burden of the LORD; therefore thus saith the LORD; Because ye say this word, The burden of the LORD, and I have sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of the LORD;

Maar aangesien julle sê, Die las van die HERE; daarom so sê die HERE; Omdat julle hierdie woord sê, Die las van die HERE, en ek het tot julle gestuur, sê, Julle moet nie sê, Die las van die HERE nie;

39

Therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you, and I will forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, [and cast you] out of my presence:

Daarom, kyk, ek, selfs ek, sal julle heeltemal vergeet, en julle, en die stad wat ek aan julle en aan julle vaders gegee het, van my teenwoordigheid wegwerp:

40

And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame, which shall not be forgotten.

En ek sal ‚'n ewige smaad op julle bring, en ‚'n voortdurende skaamte, wat nie vergeet sal word nie.
