Thus saith the LORD; Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word,

So sê die HERE; Gaan af na die huis van die koning van Juda, en spreek daar hierdie woord,

And say, Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, that sittest upon the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people that enter in by these gates:

En sê, Hoor die woord van die HERE, o koning van Juda, wat sit op die troon van Dawid, jy, en jou dienaars, en jou volk wat in hierdie poorte inkom:

Thus saith the LORD; Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.

So sê die HERE; Voer julle oordeel en geregtigheid uit, en red die geplunderde uit die hand van die verdrukker: en doen geen kwaad, doen geen geweld aan die vreemdeling, die wees, en die weduwee nie, en stort geen onskuldige bloed in hierdie plek nie.

For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people.

Want as julle hierdie ding ywerig doen, dan sal daar in die poorte van hierdie huis inkom konings wat sit op die troon van Dawid, rydende in strydwaens en op perde, hy, en sy dienaars, en sy volk.

But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, saith the LORD, that this house shall become a desolation.

Maar as julle hierdie woorde nie sal hoor nie, sweer ek by Myself, sê die HERE, dat hierdie huis ’n verwoesting sal word.

6

For thus saith the LORD unto the king’s house of Judah; Thou [art] Gilead unto me, [and] the head of Lebanon: [yet] surely I will make thee a wilderness, [and] cities [which] are not inhabited.

Want so sê die HERE tot die huis van die koning van Juda; Jy is Gílead tot My, en die hoof van Líbanon: tog sal ek sekerlik jou ’n wildernis maak, en stede wat nie bewoon word nie.

And I will prepare destroyers against thee, every one with his weapons: and they shall cut down thy choice cedars, and cast [them] into the fire.

En ek sal verwoesters teen jou voorberei, elkeen met sy wapens: en hulle sal jou keurige seders afkap, en dit in die vuur gooi.

8

And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this great city?

En baie nasies sal by hierdie stad verbygaan, en hulle sal elkeen tot sy naaste sê, Waarom het die HERE so aan hierdie groot stad gedoen?

9

Then they shall answer, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God, and worshipped other gods, and served them.

Dan sal hulle antwoord, Omdat hulle die verbond van die HERE hulle God verlaat het, en ander gode aanbid en hulle gedien het.

10

Weep ye not for the dead, neither bemoan him: [but] weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall return no more, nor see his native country.

Ween nie vir die dooie nie, en weeklaag nie vir hom nie: maar ween bitterlik vir hom wat uitgaan: want hy sal nie meer terugkeer nie, en die land van sy geboorte nie sien nie.

For thus saith the LORD touching Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah, which reigned instead of Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any more:

Want so sê die HERE aangaande Sallum die seun van Josía koning van Juda, wat in die plek van Josía sy vader as koning geregeer het, wat uit hierdie plek uitgegaan het; Hy sal nie meer hierheen terugkeer nie:

But he shall die in the place whither they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more.

Maar hy sal in die plek sterwe waarheen hulle hom weggevoer het, en hy sal hierdie land nie meer sien nie.

13

Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; [that] useth his neighbour’s service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;

Wee hom wat sy huis met ongeregtigheid bou, en sy kamers met onreg; wat sy naaste se diens sonder loon gebruik, en gee hom nie vir sy werk nie;

That saith, I will build me a wide house and large chambers, and cutteth him out windows; and [it is] cieled with cedar, and painted with vermilion.

Wat sê, Ek sal vir my ’n wye huis bou, en groot kamers, en sny vir hom vensters uit; en dit is met sederhout bedek, en geverf met vermiljoen.

15

Shalt thou reign, because thou closest [thyself] in cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, [and] then [it was] well with him?

Sal jy regeer, omdat jy met sederhout meeding? het jou vader nie geëet en gedrink, en oordeel en geregtigheid gedoen nie, en toe was dit met hom goed?

16

He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then [it was] well [with him: was] not this to know me? saith the LORD.

Hy het die saak van die armes en behoeftiges geoordeel; toe was dit goed met hom: was dit nie om My te ken nie? sê die HERE.

17

But thine eyes and thine heart [are] not but for thy covetousness, and for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do [it].

Maar jou oë en jou hart is nie nie, maar vir jou hebsug, en om onskuldige bloed te vergiet, en vir verdrukking, en om geweld te doen, om dit te doen.

18

Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, [saying], Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! they shall not lament for him, [saying], Ah lord! or, Ah his glory!

Daarom so sê die HERE aangaande Jójakim die seun van Josía koning van Juda; Hulle sal nie oor hom weeklaag nie, sê, Ag my broer! of, Ag suster! hulle sal nie oor hom weeklaag nie, sê, Ag heer! of, Ag sy heerlikheid!

19

He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

Hy sal begrawe word met die begrafnis van ’n esel, getrek en uitgewerp buite die poorte van Jérusalem.

20

Go up to Lebanon, and cry; and lift up thy voice in Bashan, and cry from the passages: for all thy lovers are destroyed.

Gaan op in Líbanon, en roep; en hef jou stem op in Basan, en roep van die pas af: want al jou minnaars is vernietig.

21

I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; [but] thou saidst, I will not hear. This [hath been] thy manner from thy youth, that thou obeyedst not my voice.

Ek het tot jou gespreek in jou voorspoed; maar jy het gesê, Ek sal nie hoor nie. Dit was jou manier van jou jeug af, dat jy nie aan my stem gehoorsaam was nie.

22

The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into captivity: surely then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness.

Die wind sal al jou herders opvreet, en jou minnaars sal in gevangenisskap gaan: sekerlik sal jy dan beskaamd en verleë wees vir al jou goddeloosheid.

23

O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail!

O inwoner van Líbanon, wat jou nes in die seders maak, hoe genadig sal jy wees wanneer smart oor jou kom, die pyn soos van ’n vrou in barensnood!

[As] I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck thee thence;

So waar as ek lewe, sê die HERE, al was Konía die seun van Jójakim koning van Juda die seëlring op my regterhand, tog sou ek jou daarvandaan afskeur;

25

And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand [of them] whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.

En ek sal jou in die hand gee van dié wat jou lewe soek, en in die hand van dié wie se aangesig jy vrees, selfs in die hand van Nebukadrésar koning van Babel, en in die hand van die Chaldeërs.

26

And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.

En ek sal jou uitwerp, en jou moeder wat jou gebaar het, in ‚'n ander land, waar julle nie gebore is nie; en daar sal julle sterwe.

27

But to the land whereunto they desire to return, thither shall they not return.

Maar na die land waarheen hulle hulle siel begeer om terug te keer, daarheen sal hulle nie terugkeer nie.

28

[Is] this man Coniah a despised broken idol? [is he] a vessel wherein [is] no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?

Is hierdie man Konía ’n veragtelike gebreekte afgod? is hy ’n vat waarin daar geen behae is nie? waarom is hulle uitgeworp, hy en sy saad, en in ’n land gewerp wat hulle nie ken nie?

O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.

O aarde, aarde, aarde, hoor die woord van die HERE.

30

Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man [that] shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.

So sê die HERE, Skryf hierdie man kinderloos, ’n man wat nie voorspoedig sal wees in sy dae nie: want geen man van sy saad sal voorspoedig wees, om op die troon van Dawid te sit, en om meer in Juda te heers nie.
