And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.
En Abraham het van daar afgereis na die suidelike land, en gewoon tussen Kades en Sur, en as vreemdeling vertoef in Gerar.

And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She [is] my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.
En Abraham het van Sara sy vrou gesê, Sy is my suster: en Abiméleg koning van Gerar het gestuur, en Sara geneem.

But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou [art but] a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she [is] a man’s wife.
Maar God het in die nag in ’n droom tot Abiméleg gekom, en tot hom gesê, Kyk, jy is ’n dooie man, vanweë die vrou wat jy geneem het; want sy is ’n man se vrou.

But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?
Maar Abiméleg het nie naby haar gekom nie: en hy het gesê, Here, sal U ook ’n regverdige nasie doodslaan?

Said he not unto me, She [is] my sister? and she, even she herself said, He [is] my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.
Het hy nie tot my gesê, Sy is my suster nie? en sy, selfs sy self, het gesê, Hy is my broer: in die opregtheid van my hart en die onskuld van my hande het ek dit gedoen.

And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
En God het tot hom in ’n droom gesê, Ja, Ek weet dat jy dit in die opregtheid van jou hart gedoen het; want Ek het jou ook weerhou om teen My te sondig: daarom het Ek jou nie toegelaat om haar aan te raak nie.

Now therefore restore the man [his] wife; for he [is] a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore [her] not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that [are] thine.
Nou dan, gee die man sy vrou terug; want hy is ‚'n profeet, en hy sal vir jou bid, en jy sal lewe: en as jy haar nie teruggee nie, weet dat jy sekerlik sal sterwe, jy, en almal wat aan jou behoort.

Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.
Daarom het Abiméleg vroeg in die môre opgestaan, en al sy diensknegte geroep, en al hierdie dinge in hulle ore vertel: en die manne was baie bevrees.

Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.
Toe het Abiméleg Abraham geroep, en tot hom gesê, Wat het jy aan ons gedoen? en wat het ek jou misdoen, dat jy op my en op my koninkryk ’n groot sonde gebring het? jy het dade aan my gedoen wat nie gedoen behoort te word nie.

And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?
En Abiméleg het tot Abraham gesê, Wat het jy gesien, dat jy hierdie ding gedoen het?

And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God [is] not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake.
En Abraham het gesê, Omdat ek gedink het, Sekerlik is die vrees van God nie in hierdie plek nie; en hulle sal my doodslaan om my vrou se ontwil.
12
And yet indeed [she is] my sister; she [is] the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
En tog is sy waarlik my suster; sy is die dogter van my vader, maar nie die dogter van my moeder nie; en sy het my vrou geword.

And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said unto her, This [is] thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He [is] my brother.
En dit het gebeur, toe God my laat rondswerf het uit my vader se huis, dat ek tot haar gesê het, Dit is jou goedheid wat jy aan my moet bewys; op elke plek waarheen ons kom, sê van my, Hy is my broer.

And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave [them] unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
En Abiméleg het skape, en beeste, en diensknegte, en diensmaagde geneem, en hulle aan Abraham gegee, en Sara sy vrou aan hom teruggegee.

And Abimelech said, Behold, my land [is] before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.
En Abiméleg het gesê, Kyk, my land is voor jou: woon waar dit jou behaag.
16
And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand [pieces] of silver: behold, he [is] to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that [are] with thee, and with all [other]: thus she was reproved.
En tot Sara het hy gesê, Kyk, ek het jou broer duisend stukke silwer gegee: kyk, dit is vir jou ’n bedekking van die oë, vir almal wat by jou is, en vir almal anders: so is sy tereggewys.

So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare [children].
So het Abraham tot God gebid: en God het Abiméleg genees, en sy vrou, en sy diensmaagde; en hulle het kinders gebaar.
18
For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham’s wife.
Want die HERE het al die baarmoeders van die huis van Abiméleg heeltemal toegesluit, vanweë Sara, Abraham se vrou.
