Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

Weer het die woord van die HERE tot my gekom, sê,

Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations,

Seun van die mens, maak Jérusalem haar gruwels bekend,

And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto Jerusalem; Thy birth and thy nativity [is] of the land of Canaan; thy father [was] an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite.

En sê, So sê die Here GOD tot Jérusalem; Jou geboorte en jou herkoms is uit die land van Kanaän; jou vader was ’n Amoriet, en jou moeder ’n Hetiet.

And [as for] thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to supple [thee]; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all.

En wat jou geboorte betref, in die dag toe jy gebore is, is jou naeltjie nie afgesny nie, en jy is ook nie met water gewas om jou te reinig nie; jy is ook nie met sout gevryf nie, en ook nie in doeke toegedraai nie.

None eye pitied thee, to do any of these unto thee, to have compassion upon thee; but thou wast cast out in the open field, to the lothing of thy person, in the day that thou wast born.

Geen oog het medelye met jou gehad om enige van hierdie dinge aan jou te doen, om medelye met jou te hê nie; maar jy is in die oop veld uitgewerp, tot die veragting van jou persoon, in die dag dat jy gebore is.

And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee [when thou wast] in thy blood, Live; yea, I said unto thee [when thou wast] in thy blood, Live.

En toe ek by jou verbygegaan het, en jou in jou bloed sien spartel het, het ek tot jou in jou bloed gesê, Lewe; ja, ek het tot jou in jou bloed gesê, Lewe.

I have caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou art come to excellent ornaments: [thy] breasts are fashioned, and thine hair is grown, whereas thou [wast] naked and bare.

Ek het jou vermenigvuldig soos die bot van die veld, en jy het vermeerder en groot geword, en jy is gekom tot uitnemende versiering: jou borste is gevorm, en jou hare is gegroei, terwyl jy naak en bloot was.

Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time [was] the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine.

Nou toe ek by jou verbygegaan het, en na jou gekyk het, kyk, jou tyd was die tyd van liefde; en ek het my slip oor jou uitgebrei, en jou naaktheid bedek: ja, ek het ’n eed aan jou gesweer, en het ’n verbond met jou aangegaan, sê die Here GOD, en jy het myne geword.

Then washed I thee with water; yea, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil.

Toe het ek jou met water gewas; ja, ek het jou bloed van jou heeltemal afgewas, en ek het jou met olie gesalf.

I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with badgers’ skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk.

Ek het jou ook met geborduurde werk beklee, en jou met dassiesvel besoen, en ek het jou met fyn linne omgord, en jou met sy bedek.

I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck.

Ek het jou ook met versiersels versier, en ek het armbande aan jou hande gesit, en ‚'n ketting om jou nek.

And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head.

En ek het ‚'n juweel aan jou voorhoof gesit, en oorringe in jou ore, en ‚'n pragtige kroon op jou hoof.

Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment [was of] fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom.

So is jy versier met goud en silwer; en jou klere was van fyn linne, en sy, en geborduurde werk; jy het fyn meel, en heuning, en olie geëet: en jy was uitermate mooi, en jy het voorspoedig gegaan tot ’n koninkryk.

And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it [was] perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.

En jou roem het onder die heidene uitgegaan vanweë jou skoonheid: want dit was volkome deur my heerlikheid, wat ek op jou gelê het, sê die Here GOD.

But thou didst trust in thine own beauty, and playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and pouredst out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was.

Maar jy het op jou eie skoonheid vertrou, en het gespeel die hoer vanweë jou roem, en het jou hoererye uitgestort op elkeen wat verbygegaan het; syne was dit.

And of thy garments thou didst take, and deckedst thy high places with divers colours, and playedst the harlot thereupon: [the like things] shall not come, neither shall it be [so].

En van jou klere het jy geneem, en hoë plekke met verskillende kleure gemaak, en daarop gespeel die hoer: die gelyke sal nie kom nie, en dit sal ook nie so wees nie.

Thou hast also taken thy fair jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given thee, and madest to thyself images of men, and didst commit whoredom with them,

Jy het ook jou pragtige juwele van my goud en van my silwer, wat ek jou gegee het, geneem, en vir jou beelde van manne gemaak, en daarmee gespeel die hoer;

And tookest thy broidered garments, and coveredst them: and thou hast set mine oil and mine incense before them.

En jy het jou geborduurde klere geneem, en hulle daarmee bedek: en jy het my olie en my wierook voor hulle gestel.

My meat also which I gave thee, fine flour, and oil, and honey, [wherewith] I fed thee, thou hast even set it before them for a sweet savour: and [thus] it was, saith the Lord GOD.

My brood ook wat ek jou gegee het, fyn meel, en olie, en heuning, waarmee ek jou gevoed het, het jy selfs voor hulle gestel vir ’n aangename reuk: en so was dit, sê die Here GOD.

Moreover thou hast taken thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto me, and these hast thou sacrificed unto them to be devoured. [Is this] of thy whoredoms a small matter,

Bowendien het jy jou seuns en jou dogters geneem, wat jy vir My gebaar het, en hierdie het jy aan hulle geoffer om verteer te word. Is dit ‚'n klein ding van jou hoererye,

That thou hast slain my children, and delivered them to cause them to pass through [the fire] for them?

Dat jy my kinders geslag het, en hulle oorgegee het om hulle deur die vuur te laat gaan vir hulle?

And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, [and] wast polluted in thy blood.

En in al jou gruwels en jou hoererye het jy nie die dae van jou jeug onthou nie, toe jy naak en bloot was, en in jou bloed gespartel het.

And it came to pass after all thy wickedness, (woe, woe unto thee! saith the Lord GOD;)

En dit het gebeur ná al jou goddeloosheid, (wee, wee jou! sê die Here GOD;)

[That] thou hast also built unto thee an eminent place, and hast made thee an high place in every street.

Dat jy vir jou ’n verhewe plek gebou het, en vir jou ’n hoë plek in elke straat gemaak het.

Thou hast built thy high place at every head of the way, and hast made thy beauty to be abhorred, and hast opened thy feet to every one that passed by, and multiplied thy whoredoms.

Jy het jou hoë plek by elke hoof van die pad gebou, en jou skoonheid verfoeilik gemaak, en jou voete vir almal wat verbygaan, oopgemaak, en jou hoererye vermeerder.

Thou hast also committed fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbours, great of flesh; and hast increased thy whoredoms, to provoke me to anger.

Jy het ook met die Egiptenaars, jou bure, groot van vlees, gespeel die hoer, en jou hoererye vermeerder, om My te terg.

Behold, therefore I have stretched out my hand over thee, and have diminished thine ordinary [food], and delivered thee unto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, which are ashamed of thy lewd way.

Kyk, daarom het ek my hand oor jou uitgesteek, en jou gewone voedsel verminder, en jou oorgegee aan die wil van hulle wat jou haat, die dogters van die Filistyne, wat skaam is vir jou skandelike weg.

Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast unsatiable; yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied.

Jy het ook met die Assiriërs gespeel die hoer, omdat jy onversadig was; ja, jy het met hulle gespeel die hoer, en kon tog nie versadig word nie.

Thou hast moreover multiplied thy fornication in the land of Canaan unto Chaldea; and yet thou wast not satisfied herewith.

Jy het jou hoererye ook vermeerder in die land van Kanaän tot by Chaldea; en tog is jy nie daarmee versadig nie.

How weak is thine heart, saith the Lord GOD, seeing thou doest all these [things], the work of an imperious whorish woman;

Hoe swak is jou hart, sê die Here GOD, aangesien jy al hierdie dinge doen, die werk van ’n heersende hoervrou;

In that thou buildest thine eminent place in the head of every way, and makest thine high place in every street; and hast not been as an harlot, in that thou scornest hire;

Deurdat jy jou hoë plek by die hoof van elke pad bou, en jou verhewe plek in elke straat maak; en jy was nie soos ’n hoer nie, deurdat jy die huur verag het;

[But as] a wife that committeth adultery, [which] taketh strangers instead of her husband!

Maar soos ‚'n vrou wat egbreuk pleeg, wat vreemdelinge neem in plaas van haar man!

They give gifts to all whores: but thou givest thy gifts to all thy lovers, and hirest them, that they may come unto thee on every side for thy whoredom.

Aan al die hoere gee hulle geskenke: maar jy gee jou geskenke aan al jou minnaars, en huur hulle, dat hulle van alle kante tot jou mag kom vir jou hoerery.

And the contrary is in thee from [other] women in thy whoredoms, whereas none followeth thee to commit whoredoms: and in that thou givest a reward, and no reward is given unto thee, therefore thou art contrary.

En die teenoorgestelde is in jou van ander vroue in jou hoererye, aangesien niemand jou agtervolg om te hoereer nie; en deurdat jy huur gee, en geen huur geneem word nie, daarom is jy die teenoorgestelde.

Wherefore, O harlot, hear the word of the LORD:

Daarom, o hoer, hoor die woord van die HERE:

Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thy filthiness was poured out, and thy nakedness discovered through thy whoredoms with thy lovers, and with all the idols of thy abominations, and by the blood of thy children, which thou didst give unto them;

So sê die Here GOD; Omdat jou skande uitgegot is, en jou naaktheid ontbloot is deur jou hoererye met jou minnaars, en met al die afgode van jou gruwels, en deur die bloed van jou kinders, wat jy aan hulle gegee het;

Behold, therefore I will gather all thy lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all [them] that thou hast loved, with all [them] that thou hast hated; I will even gather them round about against thee, and will discover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all thy nakedness.

Kyk, daarom sal ek al jou minnaars bymekaarmaak, met wie jy behae geneem het, en almal wat jy liefgehad het, met almal wat jy gehaat het; ek sal hulle van alle kante teen jou bymekaarmaak, en sal jou naaktheid aan hulle ontbloot, dat hulle jou hele naaktheid mag sien.

And I will judge thee, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will give thee blood in fury and jealousy.

En ek sal jou oordeel soos vroue wat egbreuk pleeg, en bloed vergiet word, geoordeel word; en ek sal jou die bloed van grimmigheid en ywer gee.

And I will also give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thine eminent place, and shall break down thy high places: they shall strip thee also of thy clothes, and shall take thy fair jewels, and leave thee naked and bare.

En ek sal jou ook in hulle hand oorgee, en hulle sal jou verhewe plek afbreek, en jou hoë plekke sal afbreek: hulle sal jou ook van jou klere stroop, en jou pragtige juwele neem, en jou naak en bloot laat.

They shall also bring up a company against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swords.

Hulle sal ook ‚'n vergadering teen jou opbring, en hulle sal jou met klippe stenig, en jou met hulle swaarde deursteek.

And they shall burn thine houses with fire, and execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women: and I will cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou also shalt give no hire any more.

En hulle sal jou huise met vuur verbrand, en oordele teen jou uitvoer in die oë van baie vroue: en ek sal jou laat ophou om die hoer te speel, en jy sal ook geen huur meer gee nie.

So will I make my fury toward thee to rest, and my jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will be quiet, and will be no more angry.

So sal ek my grimmigheid op jou tot rus bring, en my ywer sal van jou afwyk, en ek sal stil wees, en nie meer toornig wees nie.

Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast fretted me in all these [things]; behold, therefore I also will recompense thy way upon [thine] head, saith the Lord GOD: and thou shalt not commit this lewdness above all thine abominations.

Omdat jy nie die dae van jou jeug onthou het nie, maar My in al hierdie dinge vererg het; kyk, daarom sal ek ook jou weg op jou hoof lê, sê die Here GOD: en jy sal nie hierdie skandelikeheid by al jou gruwels byvoeg nie.

Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use [this] proverb against thee, saying, As [is] the mother, [so is] her daughter.

Kyk, elkeen wat spreekwoorde gebruik, sal hierdie spreekwoord teen jou gebruik, sê, Soos die moeder is, so is haar dogter.

Thou [art] thy mother’s daughter, that lotheth her husband and her children; and thou [art] the sister of thy sisters, which lothed their husbands and their children: your mother [was] an Hittite, and your father an Amorite.

Jy is jou moeder se dogter, wat haar man en haar kinders verafsku; en jy is die suster van jou susters, wat hulle mans en hulle kinders verafsku: julle moeder was ‚'n Hetiet, en julle vader ‚'n Amoriet.

And thine elder sister [is] Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, [is] Sodom and her daughters.

En jou groter suster is Samaría, sy en haar dogters wat aan jou linkerkant woon: en jou jonger suster, wat aan jou regterkant woon, is Sodom en haar dogters.

Yet hast thou not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: but, as [if that were] a very little [thing], thou wast corrupted more than they in all thy ways.

Tog het jy nie in hulle weë gewandel nie, en ook nie na hulle gruwels gedoen nie: maar, asof dit ’n baie klein ding was, was jy meer verdorwe as hulle in al jou weë.

[As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters.

So waar as ek lewe, sê die Here GOD, Sodom jou suster het nie gedoen, sy en haar dogters, soos jy gedoen het, jy en jou dogters nie.

Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

Kyk, dit was die ongeregtigheid van jou suster Sodom, trotsheid, volheid van brood, en oorvloed van ledigheid was in haar en in haar dogters, en sy het die hand van die armes en behoeftiges nie versterk nie.

And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw [good].

En hulle was hoogmoedig, en het gruwels voor My gepleeg: daarom het ek hulle weggeneem soos ek goedgedink het.

Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters in all thine abominations which thou hast done.

En Samaría het nie die helfte van jou sondes gepleeg nie; maar jy het jou gruwels meer as hulle vermenigvuldig, en het jou susters geregverdig deur al jou gruwels wat jy gepleeg het.

Thou also, which hast judged thy sisters, bear thine own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed more abominable than they: they are more righteous than thou: yea, be thou confounded also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters.

Jy ook, wat jou susters geoordeel het, dra jou eie skaamte vir jou sondes wat jy meer verfoeilik gemaak het as hulle: hulle is regverdiger as jy: ja, wees ook beskaamd, en dra jou skaamte, deurdat jy jou susters geregverdig het.

When I shall bring again their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then [will I bring again] the captivity of thy captives in the midst of them:

Wanneer ek hulle gevangenisskap terugbring, die gevangenisskap van Sodom en haar dogters, en die gevangenisskap van Samaría en haar dogters, dan sal ek die gevangenisskap van jou gevangenes in die midde van hulle terugbring:

That thou mayest bear thine own shame, and mayest be confounded in all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort unto them.

Dat jy jou eie skaamte mag dra, en beskaamd mag wees van al wat jy gedoen het, deurdat jy hulle ‚'n troos is.

When thy sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, then thou and thy daughters shall return to your former estate.

Wanneer jou susters, Sodom en haar dogters, tot hulle vorige staat terugkeer, en Samaría en haar dogters tot hulle vorige staat terugkeer, dan sal jy en jou dogters tot julle vorige staat terugkeer.

For thy sister Sodom was not mentioned by thy mouth in the day of thy pride,

Want jou suster Sodom was nie as ‚'n gerug in jou mond in die dag van jou trotsheid nie,

Before thy wickedness was discovered, as at the time of [thy] reproach of the daughters of Syria, and all [that are] round about her, the daughters of the Philistines, which despise thee round about.

Voordat jou goddeloosheid ontdek is, soos in die tyd van jou smaad van die dogters van Sirië, en almal wat rondom haar is, die dogters van die Filistyne, wat jou van alle kante verag.

Thou hast borne thy lewdness and thine abominations, saith the LORD.

Jy het jou skandelikeheid en jou gruwels gedra, sê die HERE.

For thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even deal with thee as thou hast done, which hast despised the oath in breaking the covenant.

Want so sê die Here GOD; Ek sal selfs met jou handel soos jy gedoen het, wat die eed verag het deur die verbond te verbreek.

Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, and I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant.

Nogtans sal ek my verbond met jou in die dae van jou jeug onthou, en ek sal ‚'n ewige verbond met jou oprig.

Then thou shalt remember thy ways, and be ashamed, when thou shalt receive thy sisters, thine elder and thy younger: and I will give them unto thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant.

Dan sal jy jou weë onthou, en beskaamd wees, wanneer jy jou susters, jou groter en jou jonger, ontvang; en ek sal hulle aan jou vir dogters gee, maar nie deur jou verbond nie.

And I will establish my covenant with thee; and thou shalt know that I [am] the LORD:

En ek sal my verbond met jou oprig; en jy sal weet dat ek die HERE is:

That thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more because of thy shame, when I am pacified toward thee for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord GOD.

Dat jy mag onthou, en beskaamd wees, en nooit jou mond meer oopmaak vanweë jou skaamte nie, wanneer ek vir jou versoening gemaak het vir alles wat jy gedoen het, sê die Here GOD.
