Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.

Toe het sekere van die oudstes van Israel tot my gekom, en voor my gaan sit.

And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

En die woord van die HERE het tot my gekom, sê,

Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be inquired of at all by them?

Seun van die mens, hierdie manne het hulle afgode in hulle hart opgerig, en die struikelblok van hulle ongeregtigheid voor hulle aangesig gestel: moet ek enigsins deur hulle geraadpleeg word?

Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;

Daarom spreek tot hulle, en sê tot hulle, So sê die Here GOD; Elke man van die huis van Israel wat sy afgode in sy hart oprig, en die struikelblok van sy ongeregtigheid voor sy aangesig stel, en tot die profeet kom; ek die HERE sal hom antwoord wat kom volgens die menigte van sy afgode;

That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

Dat ek die huis van Israel in hulle eie hart mag vang, omdat hulle almal deur hulle afgode van My afgewyk is.

Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn [yourselves] from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

Daarom sê tot die huis van Israel, So sê die Here GOD; Bekeer julle, en draai julle van julle afgode af; en draai julle aangesigte van al julle gruwels af.

For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to inquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:

Want elkeen van die huis van Israel, of van die vreemdeling wat in Israel vertoef, wat homself van My afskei, en sy afgode in sy hart oprig, en die struikelblok van sy ongeregtigheid voor sy aangesig stel, en tot ‚'n profeet kom om hom aangaande My te raadpleeg; ek die HERE sal hom antwoord deur Myself:

And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I [am] the LORD.

En ek sal my aangesig teen daardie man stel, en sal hom tot ‚'n teken en ‚'n spreekwoord maak, en ek sal hom uit die midde van my volk uitroei; en julle sal weet dat ek die HERE is.

And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

En as die profeet bedrieg word wanneer hy ‚'n woord spreek, ek die HERE het daardie profeet bedrieg, en ek sal my hand teen hom uitsteek, en sal hom uit die midde van my volk Israel vernietig.

And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh [unto him];

En hulle sal die straf van hulle ongeregtigheid dra: die straf van die profeet sal wees soos die straf van hom wat hom raadpleeg;

That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord GOD.

Dat die huis van Israel nie meer van My mag dwaal nie, en ook nie meer met al hulle oortredings verontreinig mag word nie; maar dat hulle my volk mag wees, en ek mag hulle God wees, sê die Here GOD.

The word of the LORD came again to me, saying,

Die woord van die HERE het weer tot my gekom, sê,

Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:

Seun van die mens, wanneer die land teen My sondig deur ‚'n skandelike oortreding te pleeg, dan sal ek my hand daarteen uitsteek, en sal die staf van die brood daarvan verbreek, en sal hongersnood daarop stuur, en sal mens en dier daaruit uitroei:

Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver [but] their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD.

Al was hierdie drie manne, Noag, Daniël, en Job, daarin, sou hulle hulle eie siele deur hulle geregtigheid red, sê die Here GOD.

If I cause noisome beasts to pass through the land, and they spoil it, so that it be desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:

As ek boos diere deur die land laat gaan, en hulle dit verwoes, sodat dit verwoes is, dat geen man daardeur kan trek vanweë die diere nie:

[Though] these three men [were] in it, [as] I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate.

Al was hierdie drie manne daarin, so waar as ek lewe, sê die Here GOD, hulle sou nie seuns of dogters red nie; hulle alleen sou gered word, maar die land sou verwoes word.

Or [if] I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:

Of as ek ’n swaard oor daardie land bring, en sê, Swaard, gaan deur die land; sodat ek mens en dier daaruit uitroei:

Though these three men [were] in it, [as] I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.

Al was hierdie drie manne daarin, so waar as ek lewe, sê die Here GOD, hulle sou nie seuns of dogters red nie, maar hulle alleen sou gered word.

Or [if] I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast:

Of as ek ‚'n pes in daardie land stuur, en my grimmigheid daarop uitstort in bloed, om mens en dier daaruit uit te roei:

Though Noah, Daniel, and Job, [were] in it, [as] I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall [but] deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

Al was Noag, Daniël, en Job, daarin, so waar as ek lewe, sê die Here GOD, hulle sou nie seun of dogter red nie; hulle sou net hulle eie siele deur hulle geregtigheid red.

For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?

Want so sê die Here GOD; Hoeveel te meer wanneer ek my vier slegte oordele, die swaard, en die hongersnood, en die boos dier, en die pes, op Jérusalem stuur, om mens en dier daaruit uit te roei?

Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, [both] sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, [even] concerning all that I have brought upon it.

Tog, kyk, daarin sal ’n oorblyfsel oorbly wat uitgebring sal word, beide seuns en dogters: kyk, hulle sal tot julle uitgaan, en julle sal hulle weg en hulle doenings sien: en julle sal getroos word aangaande die kwaad wat ek op Jérusalem gebring het, selfs aangaande alles wat ek daarop gebring het.

And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord GOD.

En hulle sal julle troos, wanneer julle hulle weë en hulle doenings sien: en julle sal weet dat ek nie sonder oorsaak al wat ek daarin gedoen het, gedoen het nie, sê die Here GOD.
