And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.
En daarna het Moses en Aäron ingegaan, en tot Farao gesê, So sê die HERE God van Israel, Laat my volk gaan, dat hulle vir My ’n fees mag hou in die wildernis.

And Pharaoh said, Who [is] the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.
En Farao het gesê, Wie is die HERE, dat ek na sy stem sou luister om Israel te laat gaan? Ek ken die HERE nie, en ek sal Israel ook nie laat gaan nie.

And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days’ journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.
En hulle het gesê, Die God van die Hebreërs het ons ontmoet: laat ons tog gaan, drie dae se pad in die wildernis, en offer aan die HERE onse God; dat Hy ons nie tref met pes of met die swaard nie.

And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.
En die koning van Egipte het tot hulle gesê, Waarom trek julle, Moses en Aäron, die volk van hulle werke af? Gaan na julle laste.

And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now [are] many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.
En Farao het gesê, Kyk, die volk van die land is nou baie, en julle maak hulle rus van hulle laste.

And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,
En Farao het dieselfde dag bevel gegee aan die drywers van die volk, en aan hulle opsigters, en gesê,

Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.
Julle moet voortaan nie meer strooi aan die volk gee om bakstene te maak soos gister en eergister nie: laat hulle self gaan en strooi vir hulle self bymekaarmaak.
8
And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish [ought] thereof: for they [be] idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go [and] sacrifice to our God.
En die getal bakstene wat hulle vroeër gemaak het, moet julle op hulle lê; julle moet niks daarvan verminder nie: want hulle is lui; daarom roep hulle, en sê, Laat ons gaan, laat ons offer aan onse God.

Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.
Laat daar meer werk op die manne gelê word, dat hulle daarin mag werk; en laat hulle nie ag gee op ydele woorde nie.

And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.
En die drywers van die volk en hulle opsigters het uitgegaan, en tot die volk gespreek, en gesê, So sê Farao, Ek sal julle geen strooi gee nie.
11
Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished.
Gaan self, haal strooi waar julle dit kan vind: maar van julle werk sal niks verminder word nie.

So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.
So is die volk dan verstrooi deur die hele land Egipte om stoppels bymekaar te maak in plaas van strooi.

And the taskmasters hasted [them], saying, Fulfil your works, [your] daily tasks, as when there was straw.
En die drywers het hulle aangedring, en gesê, Voltooi julle werke, julle daaglikse take, net soos toe daar strooi was.
14
And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, [and] demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?
En die opsigters van die kinders van Israel, wat Farao se drywers oor hulle aangestel het, is geslaan, en hulle is gevra, Waarom het julle nie julle taak in bakstene, beide gister en vandag, voltooi soos tevore nie?

Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?
Toe het die opsigters van die kinders van Israel gekom en tot Farao geroep, en gesê, Waarom handel jy so met jou dienaars?

There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants [are] beaten; but the fault [is] in thine own people.
Daar word geen strooi aan jou dienaars gegee nie, en hulle sê tot ons, Maak bakstene: en kyk, jou dienaars word geslaan; maar die skuld is by jou eie volk.
17
But he said, Ye [are] idle, [ye are] idle: therefore ye say, Let us go [and] do sacrifice to the LORD.
Maar hy het gesê, Julle is lui, julle is lui: daarom sê julle, Laat ons gaan, laat ons offer aan die HERE.
18
Go therefore now, [and] work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.
Gaan dan nou, werk; want daar sal geen strooi aan julle gegee word nie, maar julle moet die getal bakstene lewer.
19
And the officers of the children of Israel did see [that] they [were] in evil [case], after it was said, Ye shall not minish [ought] from your bricks of your daily task.
En die opsigters van die kinders van Israel het gesien dat hulle in die moeilikheid was, nadat daar gesê is, Julle mag niks verminder van julle bakstene van julle daaglikse taak nie.

And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:
En hulle het Moses en Aäron ontmoet, wat op die pad gestaan het toe hulle van Farao af kom:

And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.
En hulle het tot hulle gesê, Die HERE sien na julle, en oordeel; omdat julle ons stank gemaak het in die oë van Farao, en in die oë van sy dienaars, om ’n swaard in hulle hand te gee om ons dood te maak.

And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou [so] evil entreated this people? why [is] it [that] thou hast sent me?
En Moses het teruggekeer na die HERE, en gesê, Here, waarom het U hierdie volk so sleg behandel? waarom het U my dan gestuur?
23
For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.
Want sedert ek by Farao gekom het om in u Naam te spreek, het hy hierdie volk sleg behandel; en U het u volk glad nie verlos nie.
