And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for [as for] this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
En toe die volk sien dat Moses vertoef om van die berg af te kom, het die volk bymekaargekom by Aäron, en tot hom gesê, Staan op, maak vir ons gode wat voor ons uit kan gaan; want wat hierdie Moses, die man wat ons uit die land Egipte uitgelei het, betref, ons weet nie wat van hom geword het nie.

And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which [are] in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring [them] unto me.
En Aäron het tot hulle gesê, Breek af die goue oorringe wat in die ore is van julle vroue, van julle seuns, en van julle dogters, en bring hulle na my.

And all the people brake off the golden earrings which [were] in their ears, and brought [them] unto Aaron.
En die hele volk het die goue oorringe afgebreek wat in hulle ore was, en dit na Aäron gebring.

And he received [them] at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These [be] thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
En hy het dit uit hulle hand geneem, en dit met ’n graveerpen bewerk, en daarvan ’n gegote kalf gemaak: en hulle het gesê, Dit is jou gode, o Israel, wat jou uit die land Egipte uitgelei het.

And when Aaron saw [it], he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow [is] a feast to the LORD.
En toe Aäron dit sien, het hy ’n altaar voor dit gebou; en Aäron het uitgeroep, en gesê, Môre is ’n fees vir die HERE.

And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
En hulle het vroeg die volgende dag opgestaan, en brandoffers geoffer, en dankoffers gebring; en die volk het gaan sit om te eet en te drink, en opgestaan om te speel.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted [themselves]:
En die HERE het tot Moses gesê, Gaan, klim af; want jou volk, wat jy uit die land Egipte uitgelei het, het hulle bederf:
8
They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These [be] thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
Hulle het gou afgewyk van die weg wat ek hulle beveel het: hulle het vir hulle ’n gegote kalf gemaak, en hulle daarvoor neergebuig, en daaraan geoffer, en gesê, Dit is jou gode, o Israel, wat jou uit die land Egipte uitgelei het.

And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it [is] a stiffnecked people:
En die HERE het tot Moses gesê, Ek het hierdie volk gesien, en kyk, dit is ’n hardnekkige volk:
10
Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.
Laat My dan nou met rus, dat my toorn teen hulle mag aangesteek word, en dat ek hulle mag verteer: en ek sal van jou ‚'n groot nasie maak.

And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?
En Moses het die HERE sy God gesmeek, en gesê, HERE, waarom brand u toorn teen u volk, wat U met groot krag en met ’n magtige hand uit die land Egipte uitgelei het?

Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.
Waarom moet die Egiptenaars spreek, en sê, Vir die kwaad het Hy hulle uitgelei, om hulle in die berge dood te maak, en om hulle van die aangesig van die aarde af te vernietig? Draai u van u brandende toorn af, en berou U oor hierdie onheil teen u volk.

Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit [it] for ever.
Dink aan Abraham, aan Isak, en aan Israel, u dienaars, aan wie U by Uself gesweer het, en tot hulle gesê het, Ek sal julle saad vermeerder soos die sterre van die hemel, en al hierdie land wat ek gesê het, sal ek aan julle saad gee, en hulle sal dit tot in ewigheid erf.

And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.
En die HERE het berou gehad oor die onheil wat Hy gesê het dat Hy aan sy volk sou doen.

And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony [were] in his hand: the tables [were] written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other [were] they written.
En Moses het omgedraai, en van die berg afgeklim, en die twee tafels van die getuienis in sy hand; die tafels was aan altwee kante beskrywe; aan hierdie kant en aan daardie kant was hulle beskrywe.

And the tables [were] the work of God, and the writing [was] the writing of God, graven upon the tables.
En die tafels was die werk van God, en die skrif was die skrif van God, gegraveer op die tafels.

And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, [There is] a noise of war in the camp.
En toe Josua die geraas van die volk hoor soos hulle skreeu, het hy tot Moses gesê, Daar is ’n geraas van oorlog in die kamp.
18
And he said, [It is] not the voice of [them that] shout for mastery, neither [is it] the voice of [them that] cry for being overcome: [but] the noise of [them that] sing do I hear.
En hy het gesê, Dit is nie die stem van dié wat roep om die oorwinning nie, en dit is ook nie die stem van dié wat roep om die nederlaag nie: maar die stem van dié wat sing, hoor ek.

And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses’ anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.
En dit het gebeur, toe hy naby die kamp kom, en die kalf en die danse sien, dat Moses se toorn aangesteek is, en hy die tafels uit sy hande gegooi het, en hulle onder die berg stukkend gebreek het.

And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt [it] in the fire, and ground [it] to powder, and strawed [it] upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink [of it].
En hy het die kalf geneem wat hulle gemaak het, en dit in die vuur verbrand, en dit tot poeier gemaal, en dit op die water gestrooi, en die kinders van Israel dit laat drink.

And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them?
En Moses het tot Aäron gesê, Wat het hierdie volk jou aangedoen, dat jy so ’n groot sonde oor hulle gebring het?
22
And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they [are set] on mischief.
En Aäron het gesê, Laat die toorn van my heer nie aangesteek word nie: jy ken die volk, dat hulle tot die kwaad geneig is.
23
For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us: for [as for] this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
Want hulle het tot my gesê, Maak vir ons gode wat voor ons uit kan gaan: want wat hierdie Moses, die man wat ons uit die land Egipte uitgelei het, betref, ons weet nie wat van hom geword het nie.

And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break [it] off. So they gave [it] me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.
En ek het tot hulle gesê, Elkeen wat goud het, laat hulle dit afbreek. So het hulle dit dan aan my gegee: toe het ek dit in die vuur gegooi, en daar het hierdie kalf uitgekom.

And when Moses saw that the people [were] naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto [their] shame among their enemies:)
En toe Moses sien dat die volk losbandig was; (want Aäron het hulle losbandig gemaak tot ’n smaad onder hulle vyande:)
26
Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who [is] on the LORD’S side? [let him come] unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.
Toe het Moses in die poort van die kamp gaan staan, en gesê, Wie is aan die HERE se kant? laat hom by my kom. En al die seuns van Levi het by hom versamel.

And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, [and] go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.
En hy het tot hulle gesê, So sê die HERE God van Israel, Sit elkeen sy swaard aan sy sy, en gaan heen en weer van poort tot poort deur die kamp, en laat elkeen sy broer, en elkeen sy vriend, en elkeen sy naaste doodmaak.

And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.
En die seuns van Levi het gedoen volgens die woord van Moses: en daar het van die volk daardie dag omtrent drieduisend man geval.
29
For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves to day to the LORD, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.
Want Moses het gesê, Wyk julle vandag tot die HERE, selfs elkeen teen sy seun, en teen sy broer; dat Hy julle vandag ’n seën mag opleg.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.
En dit het gebeur die volgende dag, dat Moses tot die volk gesê het, Julle het ’n groot sonde gedoen: en nou sal ek opklim tot die HERE; miskien sal ek versoening maak vir julle sonde.

And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.
En Moses het teruggekeer tot die HERE, en gesê, Ag, hierdie volk het ’n groot sonde gedoen, en vir hulle gode van goud gemaak.
32
Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin—; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.
Maar nou, as U tog hulle sonde wil vergewe—; en as nie, vee my tog uit u boek uit wat U geskrywe het.
33
And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
En die HERE het tot Moses gesê, Elkeen wat teen My gesondig het, hom sal ek uit my boek uitvee.
34
Therefore now go, lead the people unto [the place] of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.
Gaan dan nou heen, lei die volk na die plek waarvan ek tot jou gespreek het: kyk, my engel sal voor jou uitgaan: maar in die dag wanneer ek besoeking doen, sal ek hulle sonde aan hulle besoek.

And the LORD plagued the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.
En die HERE het die volk geplaag, omdat hulle die kalf gemaak het, wat Aäron gemaak het.
