1
If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that [the judges] may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.
As daar ‚'n twis is tussen manne, en hulle kom na die oordeel, dat die regters hulle mag oordeel; dan moet hulle die regverdige regverdig verklaar, en die goddelose veroordeel.

And it shall be, if the wicked man [be] worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number.
En dit moet wees, as die goddelose man die straf van die stokke waardig is, dat die regter hom moet laat neerlê, en hom voor sy aangesig laat slaan, volgens sy skuld, by ’n sekere getal.

Forty stripes he may give him, [and] not exceed: lest, [if] he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.
Veertig slae mag hy hom gee, en nie meer nie: dat hy, as hy hom meer as hierdie slae sou byvoeg, en hom baie slae gee, jou broer nie veragtelik voor jou oë word nie.

Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out [the corn].
Jy mag ‚'n os nie muilband wanneer hy die koring dors nie.

If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her.
As broers saam woon, en een van hulle sterwe, en geen kind het nie, dan mag die vrou van die dooie nie na buite by ‚'n vreemde man trou nie: haar man se broer moet by haar ingaan, en haar tot vrou neem, en die plig van ‚'n swaer aan haar doen.

And it shall be, [that] the firstborn which she beareth shall succeed in the name of his brother [which is] dead, that his name be not put out of Israel.
En die eersgeborene wat sy baar, moet opstaan in die naam van sy broer wat dood is, dat sy naam nie uit Israel uitgewis word nie.

And if the man like not to take his brother’s wife, then let his brother’s wife go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband’s brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband’s brother.
En as die man nie begerig is om sy broer se vrou te neem nie, dan moet sy broer se vrou opgaan na die poort by die ouderlinge, en sê, My man se broer weier om sy broer se naam in Israel te laat opstaan; hy wil nie die plig van ’n swaer aan my doen nie.

Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and [if] he stand [to it], and say, I like not to take her;
Dan moet die ouderlinge van sy stad hom roep, en met hom spreek: en as hy bly staan, en sê, Ek begeer nie om haar te neem nie;
9
Then shall his brother’s wife come unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto that man that will not build up his brother’s house.
Dan moet sy broer se vrou nader kom by hom in die teenwoordigheid van die ouderlinge, en sy skoen van sy voet aftrek, en in sy aangesig spuug, en antwoord, en sê, So moet gedoen word aan die man wat nie sy broer se huis wil bou nie.

And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that hath his shoe loosed.
En sy naam moet in Israel genoem word, Die huis van hom wat sy skoen uitgetrek het.

When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:
Wanneer manne saam veg, die een teen die ander, en die vrou van die een nader kom om haar man uit die hand van hom wat hom slaan, te red, en haar hand uitsteek, en hom by die geheime dele gryp:

Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity [her].
Dan moet jy haar hand afkap, jou oog mag nie spaar nie.
13
Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small.
Jy mag nie in jou sak verskillende gewigte hê, ’n groot en ’n klein nie.
14
Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small.
Jy mag nie in jou huis verskillende mate hê, ’n groot en ’n klein nie.
15
[But] thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Maar jy moet ’n volkome en regverdige gewig hê, ’n volkome en regverdige maat moet jy hê: dat jou dae verleng mag word in die land wat die HERE jou God jou gee.

For all that do such things, [and] all that do unrighteously, [are] an abomination unto the LORD thy God.
Want almal wat so doen, en almal wat onreg doen, is ‚'n gruwel vir die HERE jou God.
17
Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were come forth out of Egypt;
Gedenk wat Amalek aan jou gedoen het langs die pad, toe julle uit Egipte uitgegaan het;
18
How he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, [even] all [that were] feeble behind thee, when thou [wast] faint and weary; and he feared not God.
Hoe hy jou langs die pad teëgekom het, en die agterhoede by jou neergeslaan het, selfs al die swakkes agter jou, toe jy moeg en afgemat was; en hy het God nie gevrees nie.

Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee [for] an inheritance to possess it, [that] thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget [it].
Daarom moet dit wees, wanneer die HERE jou God jou rus gee van al jou vyande rondom, in die land wat die HERE jou God jou gee tot ‚'n erfenis om te besit, dat jy die herinnering aan Amalek van onder die hemel uitwis; jy mag dit nie vergeet nie.
