1
When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give [it] in her hand, and send her out of his house.
Wanneer ’n man ’n vrou geneem het, en met haar getroud is, en dit gebeur dat sy geen guns in sy oë vind nie, omdat hy iets skandeliks aan haar gevind het: dan moet hy ’n skeibrief vir haar skrywe, en dit in haar hand gee, en haar uit sy huis wegstuur.

And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man’s [wife].
En wanneer sy uit sy huis uitgegaan is, mag sy die vrou van ‚'n ander man word.

And [if] the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth [it] in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her [to be] his wife;
En as die laaste man haar haat, en ‚'n skeibrief vir haar skrywe, en dit in haar hand gee, en haar uit sy huis wegstuur; of as die laaste man sterwe, wat haar tot vrou geneem het;

Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that [is] abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee [for] an inheritance.
Haar vorige man, wat haar weggestuur het, mag haar nie weer tot vrou neem, nadat sy verontreinig is nie; want dit is ‚'n gruwel voor die HERE: en jy mag die land nie laat sondig nie, wat die HERE jou God jou gee tot ‚'n erfenis.

When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: [but] he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken.
Wanneer ‚'n man ‚'n nuwe vrou geneem het, moet hy nie in die oorlog uittrek nie, en hulle mag hom met geen saak belas nie: maar hy moet vry wees by sy huis een jaar lank, en sy vrou vermaak wat hy geneem het.

No man shall take the nether or the upper millstone to pledge: for he taketh [a man’s] life to pledge.
Geen man mag die handmeul of die boonste meulsteen as pand neem nie: want hy neem ‚'n man se lewe as pand.
7
If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him; then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put evil away from among you.
As ‚'n man gevind word wat enige van sy broers uit die kinders van Israel steel, en hom as slaaf behandel, of verkoop; dan moet daardie dief sterwe; en jy moet die boosheid uit jou midde uitroei.

Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, [so] ye shall observe to do.
Neem ag in die plaag van melaatsheid, dat jy sorgvuldig doen volgens alles wat die priesters die Leviete julle sal leer: soos ek hulle beveel het, so moet julle sorgvuldig doen.

Remember what the LORD thy God did unto Miriam by the way, after that ye were come forth out of Egypt.
Gedenk wat die HERE jou God aan Mirjam gedoen het langs die pad, toe julle uit Egipte uitgegaan het.
10
When thou dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge.
Wanneer jy jou naaste enigiets leen, mag jy nie in sy huis ingaan om sy pand te haal nie.
11
Thou shalt stand abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring out the pledge abroad unto thee.
Jy moet buite staan, en die man aan wie jy leen, moet die pand na jou uitbring.
12
And if the man [be] poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge:
En as die man arm is, mag jy nie met sy pand slaap nie.
13
In any case thou shalt deliver him the pledge again when the sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his own raiment, and bless thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God.
In enige geval moet jy hom die pand teruggee wanneer die son ondergaan, dat hy in sy eie kleed mag slaap, en jou seën: en dit sal geregtigheid vir jou wees voor die HERE jou God.
14
Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant [that is] poor and needy, [whether he be] of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that [are] in thy land within thy gates:
Jy mag ‚'n gehuurde dienaar wat arm en behoeftig is, nie verdruk nie, of hy van jou broers is, of van jou vreemdelinge wat in jou land binne jou poorte is:

At his day thou shalt give [him] his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he [is] poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee.
Op dieselfde dag moet jy hom sy loon gee, die son mag nie daaroor ondergaan nie; want hy is arm, en sit sy hart daarop: dat hy nie teen jou tot die HERE roep nie, en dit sonde in jou is.
16
The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
Die vaders mag nie om die kinders se ontwil gedood word nie, en die kinders mag nie om die vaders se ontwil gedood word nie: elkeen moet vir sy eie sonde gedood word.
17
Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger, [nor] of the fatherless; nor take a widow’s raiment to pledge:
Jy mag die oordeel van die vreemdeling, of van die wees, nie verdraai nie; en jy mag ‚'n weduwee se kleed nie as pand neem nie:
18
But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing.
Maar jy moet gedenk dat jy ‚'n dienskneg was in Egipte, en die HERE jou God jou daarvandaan verlos het: daarom beveel ek jou om hierdie ding te doen.
19
When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands.
Wanneer jy jou oes in jou veld afooes, en ’n gerf in die veld vergeet, mag jy nie teruggaan om dit te haal nie: dit moet vir die vreemdeling, vir die wees, en vir die weduwee wees: dat die HERE jou God jou mag seën in al die werk van jou hande.
20
When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
Wanneer jy jou olyfboom skud, mag jy nie die takke weer na die laaste trosse afooes nie: dit moet vir die vreemdeling, vir die wees, en vir die weduwee wees.
21
When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean [it] afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
Wanneer jy die druiwe van jou wingerd bymekaarmaak, mag jy nie na die laaste trosse afooes nie: dit moet vir die vreemdeling, vir die wees, en vir die weduwee wees.
22
And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing.
En jy moet gedenk dat jy ‚'n dienskneg was in die land Egipte: daarom beveel ek jou om hierdie ding te doen.
