1
If [one] be found slain in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, [and] it be not known who hath slain him:
As iemand dood gevind word in die land wat die HERE jou God jou gee om te besit, lê in die veld, en dit is nie bekend wie hom doodgeslaan het nie:
2
Then thy elders and thy judges shall come forth, and they shall measure unto the cities which [are] round about him that is slain:
Dan moet jou ouderlinge en jou regters uitgaan, en meet na die stede wat rondom hom is wat dood is:
3
And it shall be, [that] the city [which is] next unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take an heifer, which hath not been wrought with, [and] which hath not drawn in the yoke;
En dit moet wees, dat die stad wat die naaste is aan die dooie, selfs die ouderlinge van daardie stad moet ‚'n jong koei neem, wat nie gewerk het nie, en wat nie met ‚'n juk getrek het nie;

And the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto a rough valley, which is neither eared nor sown, and shall strike off the heifer’s neck there in the valley:
En die ouderlinge van daardie stad moet die jong koei afbring na ‚'n vallei met ‚'n immer vloeiende stroom, wat nie bewerk of besaai is nie, en daar die nek van die jong koei in die vallei breek:

And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them the LORD thy God hath chosen to minister unto him, and to bless in the name of the LORD; and by their word shall every controversy and every stroke be [tried]:
En die priesters die seuns van Levi moet nader kom; want hulle het die HERE jou God uitverkies om Hom te dien, en om in die Naam van die HERE te seën: en volgens hulle woord moet elke twis en elke slag beslis word:

And all the elders of that city, [that are] next unto the slain [man], shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley:
En al die ouderlinge van daardie stad, wat die naaste is aan die dooie, moet hulle hande was oor die jong koei waarvan die nek in die vallei gebreek is:
7
And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen [it].
En hulle moet antwoord en sê, Ons hande het hierdie bloed nie vergiet nie, en ons oë het dit nie gesien nie.

Be merciful, O LORD, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people of Israel’s charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them.
Wees genadig, o HERE, aan u volk Israel, wat U verlos het, en lê geen onskuldige bloed onder u volk Israel nie. En die bloed moet hulle vergewe word.

So shalt thou put away the [guilt of] innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do [that which is] right in the sight of the LORD.
So moet jy dan die skuld van onskuldige bloed uit jou midde wegneem, wanneer jy doen wat reg is in die oë van die HERE.
10
When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive,
Wanneer jy uittrek tot die geveg teen jou vyande, en die HERE jou God hulle in jou hand gee, en jy hulle as gevangenes wegvoer,
11
And seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife;
En jy onder die gevangenes ‚'n mooi vrou sien, en ‚'n begeerte na haar het, dat jy haar tot vrou wil neem;
12
Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;
Dan moet jy haar in jou huis bring, en sy moet haar hoof skeer, en haar naels knip;
13
And she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.
En sy moet die klere van haar gevangenskap uittrek, en in jou huis bly, en haar vader en haar moeder ‚'n volle maand betreur: en daarna moet jy by haar ingaan, en haar man wees, en sy moet jou vrou wees.

And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not make merchandise of her, because thou hast humbled her.
En dit sal gebeur, as jy geen behae in haar het nie, dan moet jy haar laat gaan waarheen sy wil; maar jy mag haar geensins vir geld verkoop nie, jy mag haar nie as ‚'n slaaf behandel nie, omdat jy haar verneder het.

If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, [both] the beloved and the hated; and [if] the firstborn son be hers that was hated:
As ‚'n man twee vroue het, een geliefd, en ‚'n ander gehaat, en hulle het hom kinders gebaar, beide die geliefde en die gehate; en as die eersgeborene seun van die gehate is:

Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit [that] which he hath, [that] he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, [which is indeed] the firstborn:
Dan moet dit wees, wanneer hy sy seuns die dinge laat erf wat hy het, dat hy nie die seun van die geliefde die eersgeboreneskap mag gee bo die seun van die gehate, wat die eersgeborene is nie:
17
But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated [for] the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he [is] the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn [is] his.
Maar hy moet die eersgeborene, die seun van die gehate, erken, deur hom ‚'n dubbele deel te gee van alles wat hy het: want hy is die begin van sy krag; die reg van die eersgeboreneskap is syne.

If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and [that], when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:
As ‚'n man ‚'n hardnekkige en opstandige seun het, wat nie na die stem van sy vader, of na die stem van sy moeder luister nie, en wanneer hulle hom tugtig, wil hy nie na hulle luister nie:

Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;
Dan moet sy vader en sy moeder hom gryp, en hom uitbring by die ouderlinge van sy stad, en by die poort van sy plek;
20
And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son [is] stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; [he is] a glutton, and a drunkard.
En hulle moet tot die ouderlinge van sy stad sê, Hierdie ons seun is hardnekkig en opstandig, hy wil nie na ons stem luister nie; hy is ’n vraat, en ’n suiperas.

And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.
En al die manne van sy stad moet hom stenig met klippe, dat hy sterwe: so moet jy die boosheid uit jou midde uitroei; en die hele Israel moet dit hoor, en vrees.
22
And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree:
En as ‚'n man ‚'n sonde gedoen het wat die dood waardig is, en hy gedood word, en jy hom aan ‚'n boom ophang:
23
His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged [is] accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee [for] an inheritance.
Dan mag sy liggaam nie die hele nag aan die boom bly nie, maar jy moet hom sekerlik dieselfde dag begrawe; (want hy wat opgehang is, is vervloek van God;) dat jou land nie verontreinig word nie, wat die HERE jou God jou gee tot ‚'n erfenis.
