When the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;
Wanneer die HERE jou God die nasies afsny, wie se land die HERE jou God jou gee, en jy hulle opvolg, en in hulle stede, en in hulle huise woon;

Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.
Moet jy vir jou drie stede afsonder in die midde van jou land, wat die HERE jou God jou gee om te besit.
3
Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither.
Jy moet vir jou die pad voorberei, en die grense van jou land, wat die HERE jou God jou laat erf, in drie dele verdeel, dat elke doodslaner daarheen mag vlug.

And this [is] the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbour ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past;
En dit is die saak van die doodslaner, wat daarheen sal vlug, dat hy mag lewe: Wie sy naaste onopsetlik doodslaan, wat hy nie van gister of eergister gehaat het nie;

As when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live:
Soos wanneer ‚'n man met sy naaste in die bos ingaan om hout te kap, en sy hand swaai met die byl om die boom af te kap, en die yster spring van die steel af, en tref sy naaste, dat hy sterwe; hy moet na een van daardie stede vlug, en lewe:

Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he [was] not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.
Dat die bloedwreker die doodslaner nie agtervolg, terwyl sy hart warm is, en hom inhaal, omdat die pad lank is, en hom doodslaan nie; terwyl hy nie die dood waardig was nie, aangesien hy hom nie van gister of eergister gehaat het nie.

Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.
Daarom beveel ek jou, en sê, Jy moet vir jou drie stede afsonder.

And if the LORD thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;
En as die HERE jou God jou grens vergroot, soos Hy aan jou vaders met ‚'n eed beloof het, en jou die hele land gee wat Hy aan jou vaders beloof het om te gee;

If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:
As jy al hierdie gebooie sorgvuldig onderhou om te doen, wat ek jou vandag beveel, om die HERE jou God lief te hê, en altyd in sy weë te wandel; dan moet jy nog drie stede by hierdie drie byvoeg:

That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee [for] an inheritance, and [so] blood be upon thee.
Dat onskuldige bloed nie in jou land vergiet word nie, wat die HERE jou God jou gee tot ‚'n erfenis, en bloedskuld op jou kom nie.
11
But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:
Maar as enige man sy naaste haat, en vir hom lê en wag, en teen hom opstaan, en hom dodelik slaan, dat hy sterwe, en vlug na een van hierdie stede:

Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
Dan moet die ouderlinge van sy stad boodskappers stuur, en hom daarvandaan haal, en hom in die hand van die bloedwreker oorgee, dat hy mag sterwe.
13
Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away [the guilt of] innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.
Jou oog mag hom nie spaar nie, maar jy moet die skuld van onskuldige bloed uit Israel wegneem, dat dit met jou goed mag gaan.
14
Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour’s landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.
Jy mag jou naaste se grens nie verplaas nie, wat hulle van ouds af gestel het in jou erfenis, wat jy sal erf in die land wat die HERE jou God jou gee om te besit.
15
One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.
Een getuie mag nie teen ‚'n man opstaan vir enige ongeregtigheid, of vir enige sonde, in enige sonde wat hy sondig nie: by die mond van twee getuies, of by die mond van drie getuies, moet die saak bevestig word.

If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him [that which is] wrong;
As ‚'n valse getuie teen enige man opstaan om valse getuienis teen hom te spreek;
17
Then both the men, between whom the controversy [is], shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;
Dan moet albei die manne, tussen wie die twis is, voor die HERE staan, voor die priesters en die regters, wat in daardie dae daar sal wees;
18
And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, [if] the witness [be] a false witness, [and] hath testified falsely against his brother;
En die regters moet ywerig ondersoek: en kyk, as die getuie ‚'n valse getuie is, en ‚'n valse getuienis teen sy broer gespreek het;
19
Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.
Dan moet julle aan hom doen soos hy gedink het om aan sy broer te doen: so moet jy die boosheid uit jou midde uitroei.
20
And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.
En die wat oorbly moet dit hoor, en vrees, en hierna nie meer so ‚'n boosheid onder julle doen nie.
21
And thine eye shall not pity; [but] life [shall go] for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
En jou oog mag nie spaar nie; maar lewe moet vir lewe wees, oog vir oog, tand vir tand, hand vir hand, voet vir voet.
