1
Ye [are] the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.
Julle is die kinders van die HERE julle God: julle mag julle self nie snye maak nie, of enige kaalheid tussen julle oë maak vir die dooie nie.
2
For thou [art] an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that [are] upon the earth.
Want jy is ‚'n heilige volk aan die HERE jou God, en die HERE het jou uitverkies om vir Hom ‚'n besondere volk te wees bo al die nasies wat op die aarde is.

Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing.
Jy mag geen verfoeilike ding eet nie.
4
These [are] the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat,
Dit is die diere wat julle mag eet: die os, die skaap, en die bok,
5
The hart, and the roebuck, and the fallow deer, and the wild goat, and the pygarg, and the wild ox, and the chamois.
Die hert, en die takbok, en die gemsbok, en die wilde bok, en die steenbok, en die wilde os, en die bergbok.
6
And every beast that parteth the hoof, and cleaveth the cleft into two claws, [and] cheweth the cud among the beasts, that ye shall eat.
En elke dier wat die klou splits, en die klou in twee kloue verdeel, en herkou onder die diere, dit mag julle eet.
7
Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the cloven hoof; [as] the camel, and the hare, and the coney: for they chew the cud, but divide not the hoof; [therefore] they [are] unclean unto you.
Nogtans mag julle nie eet van dié wat herkou, of van dié wat die klou splits nie; soos die kameel, en die haas, en die dassie: want hulle herkou, maar split die klou nie; daarom is hulle onrein vir julle.

And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it [is] unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase.
En die vark, omdat hy die klou splits, maar nie herkou nie, is hy onrein vir julle: julle mag nie van hulle vleis eet nie, en julle mag nie aan hulle dooie liggame raak nie.

These ye shall eat of all that [are] in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat:
Dit mag julle eet van al wat in die waters is: alles wat vinne en skubbe het, mag julle eet:
10
And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it [is] unclean unto you.
En alles wat nie vinne en skubbe het nie, mag julle nie eet nie; dit is onrein vir julle.
11
[Of] all clean birds ye shall eat.
Van al die rein voëls mag julle eet.
12
But these [are they] of which ye shall not eat: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray,
Maar dit is hulle waarvan julle nie mag eet nie: die arend, en die beisaarend, en die aasvoël,
13
And the glede, and the kite, and the vulture after his kind,
En die valk, en die kiekendief, en die vlieër na sy soort,
14
And every raven after his kind,
En elke raaf na sy soort,
15
And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind,
En die volstruis, en die nagvoël, en die meeu, en die valk na sy soort,
16
The little owl, and the great owl, and the swan,
Die uil, en die ooruil, en die swaan,
17
And the pelican, and the gier eagle, and the cormorant,
En die pelikaan, en die aasvoël, en die duiker,
18
And the stork, and the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.
En die reier, en die ooievaar, en die hop na sy soort, en die vlermuis.
19
And every creeping thing that flieth [is] unclean unto you: they shall not be eaten.
En elke kruipende ding wat vlieg, is onrein vir julle: hulle mag nie geëet word nie.
20
[But of] all clean fowls ye may eat.
Maar van al die rein voëls mag julle eet.
21
Ye shall not eat [of] any thing that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that [is] in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien: for thou [art] an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother’s milk.
Julle mag niks eet van enigiets wat van selfs dood is nie: jy mag dit aan die vreemdeling gee wat binne jou poorte is, dat hy dit mag eet; of jy mag dit aan ‚'n uitlander verkoop: want jy is ‚'n heilige volk aan die HERE jou God. Jy mag ‚'n bokkie nie in sy moeder se melk kook nie.

Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.
Jy moet sekerlik tiendes gee van al die opbrengs van jou saad, wat die veld jaar vir jaar voortbring.
23
And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.
En jy moet eet voor die HERE jou God, in die plek wat Hy sal uitkies om sy Naam daar te laat woon, die tiende van jou koring, van jou mos, en van jou olie, en die eersgeborenes van jou beeste en van jou skape; dat jy mag leer om die HERE jou God altyd te vrees.

And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; [or] if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:
En as die pad te lank is vir jou, sodat jy dit nie kan dra nie; of as die plek te ver van jou is, wat die HERE jou God sal uitkies om sy Naam daar te sit, wanneer die HERE jou God jou geseën het:
25
Then shalt thou turn [it] into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose:
Dan moet jy dit in geld omskep, en die geld in jou hand bind, en na die plek gaan wat die HERE jou God sal uitkies:
26
And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,
En jy moet daardie geld gee vir alles wat jou siel begeer, vir beeste, of vir skape, of vir wyn, of vir sterk drank, of vir enigiets wat jou siel begeer: en jy moet daar eet voor die HERE jou God, en jy moet vrolik wees, jy, en jou huisgesin,

And the Levite that [is] within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee.
En die Leviet wat binne jou poorte is; jy mag hom nie verlaat nie; want hy het geen deel of erfenis met jou nie.
28
At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay [it] up within thy gates:
Aan die end van drie jaar moet jy al die tiende van jou opbrengs in daardie jaar uitbring, en dit binne jou poorte neersit:
29
And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which [are] within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.
En die Leviet, (omdat hy geen deel of erfenis met jou het nie,) en die vreemdeling, en die wees, en die weduwee, wat binne jou poorte is, moet kom, en eet en versadig word; dat die HERE jou God jou mag seën in al die werk van jou hand wat jy doen.
