If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,

As daar onder jou ‚'n profeet of ‚'n dromer van drome opstaan, en hy jou ‚'n teken of ‚'n wonder gee,

And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;

En die teken of die wonder kom wat hy jou gespreek het, en sê, Laat ons agter ander gode aangaan, wat jy nie geken het nie, en laat ons hulle dien;

Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

Dan moet jy nie luister na die woorde van daardie profeet, of na daardie dromer van drome nie: want die HERE julle God beproef julle, om te weet of julle die HERE julle God liefhet met julle hele hart en met julle hele siel.

Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.

Julle moet agter die HERE julle God aangaan, en Hom vrees, en sy gebooie onderhou, en na sy stem luister, en Hom dien, en aan Hom vashou.

And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn [you] away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

En daardie profeet, of daardie dromer van drome, moet gedood word; omdat hy afval teen die HERE julle God gespreek het, wat julle uitgebring het uit die land Egipte, en julle verlos het uit die huis van diensbaarheid, om jou van die pad af te trek waarlangs die HERE jou God jou beveel het om te wandel. So moet jy dan die kwaad uit jou midde uitroei.

If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which [is] as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

As jou broer, die seun van jou moeder, of jou seun, of jou dogter, of die vrou van jou boesem, of jou vriend, wat soos jou eie siel is, jou in die geheim verlei, en sê, Laat ons gaan en ander gode dien, wat jy nie geken het nie, jy, of jou vaders;

[Namely], of the gods of the people which [are] round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the [one] end of the earth even unto the [other] end of the earth;

Naamlik, van die gode van die volke wat rondom julle is, naby by jou, of ver van jou af, van die een end van die aarde tot by die ander end van die aarde;

Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him:

Dan moet jy nie instem met hom nie, of na hom luister nie; en jou oog mag hom nie spaar nie, en jy mag hom nie jammer kry, of hom verberg nie:

But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

Maar jy moet hom sekerlik doodmaak; jou hand moet die eerste teen hom wees om hom dood te maak, en daarna die hand van die hele volk.

And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

En jy moet hom stenig met klippe, dat hy sterwe; omdat hy probeer het om jou af te trek van die HERE jou God, wat jou uitgebring het uit die land Egipte, uit die huis van diensbaarheid.

And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.

En die hele Israel moet dit hoor, en vrees, en niks meer soos hierdie boosheid onder julle doen nie.

If thou shalt hear [say] in one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying,

As jy in een van jou stede, wat die HERE jou God jou gee om daarin te woon, hoor sê,

[Certain] men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;

Daar het uit jou midde seker manne, kinders van Belial, uitgegaan, en die inwoners van hulle stad verlei, deur te sê, Laat ons gaan en ander gode dien, wat julle nie geken het nie;

Then shalt thou inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, [if it be] truth, [and] the thing certain, [that] such abomination is wrought among you;

Dan moet jy navraag doen, en soek, en ywerig ondersoek: en kyk, as dit waar is, en die saak seker is, dat so ‚'n gruwel onder julle gedoen is;

Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that [is] therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.

Dan moet jy die inwoners van daardie stad sekerlik met die skerpte van die swaard slaan, en dit heeltemal vernietig met die skerpte van die swaard, en alles wat daarin is, en die vee daarvan.

And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the LORD thy God: and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again.

En jy moet al die prooi daarvan bymekaar maak in die midde van die straat daarvan, en die stad en al die prooi daarvan heeltemal met vuur verbrand vir die HERE jou God: en dit moet ‚'n hoop vir ewig wees; dit mag nooit weer gebou word nie.

And there shall cleave nought of the cursed thing to thine hand: that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and shew thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers;

En daar mag niks van die vervloekte ding aan jou hand bly kleef nie: dat die HERE Hom mag afwend van die grimmigheid van sy toorn, en jou barmhartigheid bewys, en jou ontferm, en jou vermeerder, soos Hy aan jou vaders met ‚'n eed beloof het;

When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do [that which is] right in the eyes of the LORD thy God.

Wanneer jy luister na die stem van die HERE jou God, om al sy gebooie te onderhou wat ek jou vandag beveel, om te doen wat reg is in die oë van die HERE jou God.
