1
Woe to them [that are] at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, [which are] named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!
Wee aan hulle wat gerus is in Sion, en vertrou op die berg van Samaría, wat genoem word die hoof van die nasies, tot wie die huis van Israel gekom het!

Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: [be they] better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?
Gaan oor na Kalne, en sien; en van daar gaan na Hamat die groot: dan gaan af na Gat van die Filistyne: is hulle beter as hierdie koninkryke? of is hulle grens groter as julle grens?

Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;
Julle wat die boos dag ver afstel, en die sitplek van geweld nader bring;
4
That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;
Wat op beddens van ivoor lê, en hulleself op hulle rusbanke uitstrek, en die lammers uit die kudde eet, en die kalwers uit die midde van die stal;

That chant to the sound of the viol, [and] invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;
Wat volgens die klank van die psalter klets, en vir hulleself instrumente van musiek uitdink, soos Dawid;
6
That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.
Wat wyn in bakke drink, en hulleself met die vernaamste salf salf: maar hulle is nie bedroef vir die verdrukking van Josef nie.

Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.
Daarom sal hulle nou met die eerstes van die wat in gevangenisskap gaan, weggaan, en die banket van hulle wat hulleself uitstrek, sal ophou.

The Lord GOD hath sworn by himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.
Die Here GOD het by Homself gesweer, sê die HERE die God van leërskare, Ek verafsku die uitnemendheid van Jakob, en haat sy paleise: daarom sal ek die stad met al wat daarin is, oorgee.

And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.
En dit sal gebeur, as daar tien manne in een huis oorbly, dat hulle sal sterwe.

And a man’s uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that [is] by the sides of the house, [Is there] yet [any] with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD.
En ’n man se oom sal hom opneem, en hy wat hom verbrand, om die bene uit die huis uit te bring, en sal tot hom sê wat nog in die huis is, Is daar nog by jou? en hy sal sê, Geen. Dan sal hy sê, Hou jou stil: want ons mag nie die Naam van die HERE noem nie.

For, behold, the LORD commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.
Want, kyk, die HERE beveel, en Hy sal die groot huis met bresse slaan, en die klein huis met kloue.
12
Shall horses run upon the rock? will [one] plow [there] with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:
Sal perde op die rots hardloop? sal ‚'n mens daar met osse ploeg? want julle het oordeel in gal verander, en die vrug van geregtigheid in alsom:

Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?
Julle wat juig in ’n ding van niks, wat sê, Het ons nie horings vir ons geneem deur ons eie sterkte nie?
14
But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the LORD the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.
Maar, kyk, ek sal ’n nasie teen julle opwek, o huis van Israel, sê die HERE die God van leërskare; en hulle sal julle verdruk van die ingang van Hemat tot by die rivier van die wildernis.
