The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
Die woorde van Amos, wat onder die veewagters van Tekoa was, wat hy gesien het aangaande Israel in die dae van Ussía koning van Juda, en in die dae van Jéróbeam die seun van Joas koning van Israel, twee jaar voor die aardbewing.

And he said, The LORD will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.
En hy het gesê, Die HERE sal uit Sion brul, en sy stem uit Jérusalem laat hoor; en die wonings van die herders sal treur, en die top van Karmel sal verdroog.

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away [the punishment] thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:
So sê die HERE; Vir drie oortredings van Damaskus, en vir vier, sal ek dit nie afwend nie; omdat hulle Gílead met yster dorsgereedskap gedorp het:

But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Benhadad.
Maar ek sal ’n vuur in die huis van Hásael stuur, wat die paleise van Ben-Hadad sal verteer.

I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the LORD.
Ek sal ook die grendel van Damaskus verbreek, en die inwoner uitroei uit die vlakte van Awen, en hom wat die septer vashou uit die huis van Eden: en die volk van Sirië sal in gevangenisskap na Kir gaan, sê die HERE.

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away [the punishment] thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver [them] up to Edom:
So sê die HERE; Vir drie oortredings van Gaza, en vir vier, sal ek dit nie afwend nie; omdat hulle die hele gevangenisskap weggevoer het, om hulle aan Edom oor te gee:

But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:
Maar ek sal ‚'n vuur teen die muur van Gaza stuur, wat die paleise daarvan sal verteer:

And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord GOD.
En ek sal die inwoner uit Asdod uitroei, en hom wat die septer vashou uit Askelon, en ek sal my hand teen Ekron draai: en die oorblyfsel van die Filistyne sal omkom, sê die Here GOD.

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away [the punishment] thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:
So sê die HERE; Vir drie oortredings van Tirus, en vir vier, sal ek dit nie afwend nie; omdat hulle die hele gevangenisskap aan Edom oorgegee het, en nie die broederlike verbond onthou het nie:

But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus, which shall devour the palaces thereof.
Maar ek sal ‚'n vuur teen die muur van Tirus stuur, wat die paleise daarvan sal verteer.

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away [the punishment] thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:
So sê die HERE; Vir drie oortredings van Edom, en vir vier, sal ek dit nie afwend nie; omdat hy sy broer met die swaard agtervolg het, en sy medelye verwerp het, en sy toorn vir ewig verskeur het, en hy sy grimmigheid bewaar het vir altyd:

But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.
Maar ek sal ‚'n vuur teen Teman stuur, wat die paleise van Bosra sal verteer.

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away [the punishment] thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border:
So sê die HERE; Vir drie oortredings van die kinders van Ammon, en vir vier, sal ek dit nie afwend nie; omdat hulle die swanger vroue van Gílead oopgesny het, dat hulle hulle grens mag vergroot:

But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:
Maar ek sal ‚'n vuur in die muur van Rabba aansteek, en dit sal die paleise daarvan verteer, met geskreeu in die dag van geveg, met ‚'n storm in die dag van die dwarrelwind:

And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the LORD.
En hulle koning sal in gevangenisskap gaan, hy en sy vorste saam, sê die HERE.
