Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
Petrus, ’n apostel van Jesus Christus, aan die vreemdelinge wat verstrooi is deur Pontus, Galasië, Kappadósië, Asië, en Bitinië,

Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
Uitverkore volgens die voorkennis van God die Vader, deur die heiligmaking van die Gees, tot gehoorsaamheid en besprinkeling van die bloed van Jesus Christus: Genade aan julle, en vrede, word vermenigvuldig.

Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
Geseënd sy die God en Vader van onse Here Jesus Christus, wat volgens sy groot barmhartigheid ons weergebore het tot ’n lewende hoop deur die opstanding van Jesus Christus uit die dooies,

To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
Tot ‚'n onverganklike, en onbesmette, en onverwelklike erfdeel, wat in die hemele vir julle bewaar word,

Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Wat deur die krag van God bewaar word deur die geloof tot die heil wat gereed is om geopenbaar te word in die laaste tyd.

Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
Waarin julle julle grootliks verbly, alhoewel nou vir ‚'n seisoen, as dit nodig is, julle in hewigheid bedroef is deur menigvuldige versoekinge:

That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
Dat die beproewing van julle geloof, wat baie kosbaarder is as van goud wat vergaan, al word dit deur die vuur beproef, bevind mag word tot lof en eer en heerlikheid by die verskyning van Jesus Christus:

Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see [him] not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
Wat julle, alhoewel julle Hom nie gesien het nie, liefhet; in wie, alhoewel julle Hom nou nie sien nie, tog gloende, julle julle verbly met ‚'n onuitspreeklike en heerlike blydskap:

Receiving the end of your faith, [even] the salvation of [your] souls.
Ontvangende die einde van julle geloof, selfs die heil van julle siele.
10
Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace [that should come] unto you:
Aangaande welke heil die profete noukeurig ondersoek en nagevors het, wat van die genade geprofeteer het wat tot julle sou kom:

Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
Ondersoekende watter, of watter soort van tyd die Gees van Christus wat in hulle was, aangedui het, toe Hy tevore getuig het van die lydinge van Christus, en die heerlikheid wat sou volg.

Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
Aan wie dit geopenbaar is, dat nie aan hulleself, maar aan ons hulle daardie dinge bedien het, wat nou aan julle verkondig is deur hulle wat die evangelie aan julle verkondig het met die Heilige Gees wat uit die hemel gestuur is; welke dinge die engele begeer om in te kyk.

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
Daarom, gord die lendene van julle verstand, wees nugter, en hoop tot die einde toe vir die genade wat aan julle gebring word by die openbaring van Jesus Christus;

As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
As gehoorsame kinders, nie julle vormende volgens die vorige luste in julle onkunde nie:
15
But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
Maar soos Hy wat julle geroep het heilig is, so wees julle ook heilig in alle wandel;
16
Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Omdat daar geskrywe is, Wees heilig; want ek is heilig.
17
And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning [here] in fear:
En as julle die Vader aanroep, wat sonder aanneming van persone oordeel volgens elkeen se werk, bring die tyd van julle bywoning hier deur in vrees:
18
Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, [as] silver and gold, from your vain conversation [received] by tradition from your fathers;
Wetende dat julle nie met verganklike dinge, soos silwer en goud, losgekoop is van julle ydele wandel wat julle van die vaders ontvang het nie;
19
But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
Maar met die kosbare bloed van Christus, as van ‚'n lam sonder gebrek en sonder vlek:
20
Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
Wat wel vooruit geken is voor die grondlegging van die wêreld, maar in hierdie laaste tye geopenbaar is om julle ontwil,
21
Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
Wat deur Hom in God glo, wat Hom uit die dooies opgewek het, en Hom heerlikheid gegee het; dat julle geloof en hoop in God mag wees.
22
Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, [see that ye] love one another with a pure heart fervently:
Aangesien julle julle siele gereinig het in die gehoorsaamheid van die waarheid deur die Gees tot ongeveinsde broederliefde, sien toe dat julle mekaar vurig liefhet uit ‚'n reine hart:

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
Wordende weergebore, nie uit verganklike saad nie, maar onverganklike, deur die woord van God, wat lewe en tot in ewigheid bly.
24
For all flesh [is] as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
Want alle vlees is soos gras, en al die heerlikheid van die mens soos die blom van die gras. Die gras verdor, en die blom daarvan val af:
25
But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
Maar die woord van die Here bly tot in ewigheid. En dit is die woord wat deur die evangelie aan julle verkondig is.
