1
And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.
En Hiram koning van Tirus het sy dienaars na Salomo gestuur; want hy het gehoor dat hulle hom as koning in die plek van sy vader gesalf het: want Hiram was altyd ‚'n vriend van Dawid.

And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,
En Salomo het na Hiram gestuur, en gesê,
3
Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
Jy weet hoe dat Dawid my vader nie ’n huis kon bou tot die Naam van die HERE sy God nie vanweë die oorloë wat hom van alle kante omsingel het, totdat die HERE hulle onder die sole van sy voete gesit het.

But now the LORD my God hath given me rest on every side, [so that there is] neither adversary nor evil occurrent.
Maar nou het die HERE my God my rus gegee aan alle kante, sodat daar geen teëstander of slegte ontmoeting is nie.

And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.
En kyk, ek is van plan om ’n huis tot die Naam van die HERE my God te bou, soos die HERE tot my vader Dawid gespreek het, en gesê het, Jou seun, wat ek in jou plek op jou troon sal sit, hy sal ’n huis tot my Naam bou.

Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that [there is] not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.
Gee daarom nou bevel dat hulle vir my seders uit die Líbanon kap; en my dienaars sal by jou dienaars wees: en ek sal jou die loon van jou dienaars gee volgens alles wat jy sal sê: want jy weet dat daar onder ons niemand is wat weet om hout te kap soos die Sidoniërs nie.

And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed [be] the LORD this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.
En dit was so, toe Hiram die woorde van Salomo gehoor het, dat hy baie vrolik was, en gesê het, Geseënd is die HERE hierdie dag, wat aan Dawid ’n wyse seun oor hierdie groot volk gegee het.

And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: [and] I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.
En Hiram het na Salomo gestuur, en gesê, Ek het die dinge in ag geneem waarvoor jy na my gestuur het: en ek sal al jou begeerte doen aangaande sederhout, en aangaande dennebome.

My servants shall bring [them] down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive [them]: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.
My dienaars sal dit van die Líbanon af na die see bring: en ek sal dit in vlotte op die see maak tot by die plek wat jy my sal aanwys, en sal dit daar afbreek, en jy moet dit wegneem: en jy moet my begeerte vervul, deur voedsel vir my huis te gee.

So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees [according to] all his desire.
So het Hiram dan aan Salomo sederbome en dennebome gegee volgens al sy begeerte.
11
And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat [for] food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.
En Salomo het aan Hiram twintig duisend kor koring vir voedsel aan sy huis gegee, en twintig kor suiwer olie: so het Salomo jaar vir jaar aan Hiram gegee.

And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
En die HERE het aan Salomo wysheid gegee, soos Hy hom beloof het: en daar was vrede tussen Hiram en Salomo; en hulle twee het ‚'n verbond met mekaar gemaak.

And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.
En koning Salomo het dienspligtiges uit die hele Israel opgelig; en die dienspligtiges was dertig duisend man.
14
And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, [and] two months at home: and Adoniram [was] over the levy.
En hy het hulle na die Líbanon gestuur, tienduisend ’n maand by beurte: ’n maand was hulle in die Líbanon, en twee maande by die huis: en Adoniram was oor die dienspligtiges.

And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains;
En Salomo het sewentig duisend wat laste gedra het, en tagtig duisend houtkappers in die berge gehad;
16
Beside the chief of Solomon’s officers which [were] over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.
Behalwe die owerstes van Salomo se amptenare wat oor die werk was, drieduisend en driehonderd, wat oor die volk geheers het wat die werk gedoen het.
17
And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, [and] hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.
En die koning het bevel gegee, en hulle het groot klippe, kosbare klippe, en gekapte klippe uitgebring, om die fondament van die huis te lê.
18
And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders did hew [them], and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.
En Salomo se bouers en Hiram se bouers en die Gibliete het hulle gekap, en hout en klippe berei om die huis te bou.
