And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do [to me], and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
Toe het Isebel ’n boodskapper na Elía gestuur, en gesê, So moet die gode aan my doen, en meer ook, as ek nie môre omtrent hierdie tyd jou lewe soos die lewe van een van hulle maak nie.

And when he saw [that], he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which [belongeth] to Judah, and left his servant there.
En toe hy dit sien, het hy opgestaan, en vir sy lewe gevlug, en by Berséba gekom, wat aan Juda behoort, en sy dienaar daar gelaat.

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I [am] not better than my fathers.
Maar hy self het ’n dagreis ver in die wildernis gegaan, en gekom en onder ’n jeneverbos gaan sit: en hy het vir homself gevra dat hy mag sterwe; en gesê, Dit is genoeg; neem nou, o HERE, my lewe; want ek is nie beter as my vaders nie.

And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise [and] eat.
En toe hy onder die jeneverbos lê en slaap, kyk, toe het ’n engel hom aangeraak, en tot hom gesê, Staan op en eet.

And he looked, and, behold, [there was] a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
En hy het gekyk, en kyk, daar was ’n broodkoek gebak op die kole, en ’n kruik water by sy hoof. En hy het geëet en gedrink, en weer gaan lê.

And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise [and] eat; because the journey [is] too great for thee.
En die engel van die HERE het die tweede maal gekom, en hom aangeraak, en gesê, Staan op en eet; omdat die reis te groot is vir jou.

And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
En hy het opgestaan, en geëet en gedrink, en in die krag van daardie voedsel veertig dae en veertig nagte gegaan tot by Horeb die berg van God.

And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD [came] to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
En hy het daar in ’n spelonk gekom, en daar vernag; en kyk, die woord van die HERE het tot hom gekom, en Hy het tot hom gesê, Wat doen jy hier, Elía?

And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, [even] I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
En hy het gesê, Ek het baie ywerig gewees vir die HERE, die God van die leërskare: want die kinders van Israel het u verbond verlaat, u altare afgebreek, en u profete met die swaard doodgemaak; en ek, net ek alleen, het oorgebly; en hulle soek my lewe, om dit weg te neem.

And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; [but] the LORD [was] not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; [but] the LORD [was] not in the earthquake:
En Hy het gesê, Gaan uit, en staan op die berg voor die HERE. En kyk, die HERE het verbygegaan, en ’n groot en sterk wind het die berge verskeur, en die rotse voor die HERE gebreek; maar die HERE was nie in die wind nie: en ná die wind ’n aardbewing; maar die HERE was nie in die aardbewing nie:

And after the earthquake a fire; [but] the LORD [was] not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
En ná die aardbewing ’n vuur; maar die HERE was nie in die vuur nie: en ná die vuur ’n sagte fluistering.

And it was [so], when Elijah heard [it], that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, [there came] a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
En dit was so, toe Elía dit hoor, dat hy sy aangesig in sy mantel toegedraai het, en uitgegaan en by die ingang van die spelonk gestaan het. En kyk, daar het ’n stem tot hom gekom, en gesê, Wat doen jy hier, Elía?

And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael [to be] king over Syria:
En die HERE het tot hom gesê, Gaan, keer terug op jou pad na die wildernis van Damaskus: en wanneer jy daar kom, salf Hasaël as koning oor Sírië:

And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint [to be] king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint [to be] prophet in thy room.
En Jehu die seun van Nimsi moet jy as koning oor Israel salf: en Elísa die seun van Safat van Abel-Mehola moet jy as profeet in jou plek salf.

And it shall come to pass, [that] him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
En dit sal wees, dat hy wat van die swaard van Hasaël ontvlug, sal Jehu doodmaak; en hy wat van die swaard van Jehu ontvlug, sal Elísa doodmaak.

Yet I have left [me] seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.
Nogtans het ek sewenduisend in Israel oorgelaat, al die knieë wat nie voor Baäl gebuig het nie, en elke mond wat hom nie gesoen het nie.

So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who [was] plowing [with] twelve yoke [of oxen] before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.
So het hy dan daarvandaan gegaan, en Elísa die seun van Safat gevind, wat geploeg het met twaalf juk osse voor hom, en hy met die twaalfde: en Elía het by hom verbygegaan, en sy mantel op hom gegooi.

And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and [then] I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?
En hy het die osse verlaat, en agter Elía aangeloop, en gesê, Laat my, ek bid jou, my vader en my moeder soen, en dan sal ek agter jou aangaan. En hy het tot hom gesê, Gaan terug weer: want wat het ek aan jou gedoen?

And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.
En hy het van hom af teruggekeer, en ’n juk osse geneem, en hulle geslag, en hulle vlees met die gereedskap van die osse gekook, en dit aan die volk gegee, en hulle het geëet. Toe het hy opgestaan, en agter Elía aangegaan, en hom bedien.
